this is all going swimmingly... :) .

I might be wrong, and my knowledge might be out of date, but I seem to remember that Fanatics have to shoot when something comes within eight inches...and I really wonder what Tyrion himself is doing abandonning the rest of his army to go and charge goblins...anyway that's all irrelevent I guess. High elves are nothing to wood elves though...I think the only thing that can beat wood elves regularly is skaven, but really, the only front on which High Elves are much better than Wood Elves is heavy cavalry, and who needs heavy cavalry anyway when you've got dryads?
anyway I was never a fantasy battles player...so I'll shut up now.

@Kayless, the scenery is lovely :) .

can anyone get photos of their exciting miniatures up here? (aegis?)
I'll have a go with a digital camera and see if I can get some photos of the Khorne Imperator-Jugger-Dreadnaught and my Noise biker...I'd love to see the lord you were talking about earlier aegis....

I can try to get a photo of the lord, but at the time I don't have a digital camera.

My little dissertation assumed that Tyrion was leading a unit of Dragon Knights to attack Grimgor (the orc's warlord) and his unit of black orcs as part of the general elven offensive (The fanatics were a “surprise” defensive feature from night gobbos station next to them). What's the point of having a hero if he's not going to get stuck in? Image Obviously there would be other fighting going on across the battlefield, but I was just covering that portion of the fight (mapping out an entire theoretical battle would be a bit much, even for me). Image

And yes, fanatics do launch when the first enemy unit comes within 8 inches. This is one way to partially thwart them (by having a sacrificial unit lure them out prematurely). Unfortunately it's a costly strategy since you're basically throwing away an entire unit to do so (and if the orc player has multiple fanatic carrying units then you'll have to lose a lot of troops just to get all the fanatics). Also, having the fanatics release early can cause havok to both sides, since the buggers have a habbit of getting underfoot (blocking charges, whacking units already in combat, etc). The strategy is masochistic and costly (especially for dwarves, elves, etc. who don't really have cheap expendable troops), but it does work.

Orcs rule all! (if you're lucky anyway Image) As you may have noticed from my earlier dissertations, the best orc stuff is inherently random. If things hold together you'll rock, but things can just as easily go down the crapper. Many people don't like the unpredictability of greenskins (and it’s perfectly understandable) but I love it when da boyz keep me on my toes. Image

@ frogus

Tau are very easy to paint and look good as long as you have a good colour scheme (mine's white armour, black cloth, blue detail. or a variation on those colours). If you want them to look truly stunning, the simplicity of the models mean you're gonna have to be a bloody good and imaginative painter.

Conversions-wise, simple changes to the models (aerials, extra armour, small pieces of belt kit etc.) are easy and fit the models well. the style of model can make large conversions - especially on vehicles - very awkward, since the clean, self contained look makes additions stick out.

basically, they are an excellent army for a newbie painter/modeller (i.e. me  ) to try simple ideas on and build up confidence and the necessary skills before collecting a more aesthetically challenging army (in my case, probably the new Chaos stuff that they'll be releasing soonish)

I have a Tau fire Warrior and O'shava "Bin Laden" model that I entered into a local GW contest. Took the Grandprize. The colour scheme I chose was cdex grey highlighted with fortress grey for the fatigues. Then the armour was down with a layer of Ice blue, highlighted with Lightening blue. The armour was then inked with a bit of blue ink, just for shading purposes. The little lights wee painted with red gore, highlighted by blood red, then inked with (duh, red ink). The gun was left primarly black with Blotgun/mithril silver highlights.

@aegis: naice :cool:

i've just finished my last bodyguard battlesuit (basically, dark blue panelling, with large sections black with blue tigerstripe. enchanted blue head with black tigerstripe, and jetpacks black with white lightning coming from around the sept badge) and Aun Shi (skin: space wolves grey with sky blue ink, jacket: dark green with red trim, cloak: dark blue changing to enchanted blue and blue ink. then go to town with metallic paint and black ink. I am so chuffed with it you wouldn't believe :D )

I am a very very new to the high elf army. I have a unit of high elf spearmen and a unit of high elf archers. I've been collecting orcs however for over a year now. I have a huge army. I'm tactical with orcs, to tactical. People complain that i'm not playing orcs properly when I don't charge every single turn. :D :D

Those damn racist bastards! Who says da’ boyz can’t be taktikal? Image Image I've been playing orcs for around 8 years now, and I've found you generally have to do more strategic planning than other armies (like specific unit placement to minimize animosity, something other armies don't have to worry about. There's also factoring in the orc's "ignore goblin panic" ability (and the black orc's "ignore greenskin panic") when deciding just who goes into battle). We'll show those gits that da' ladz are just as thinky as anybody else! Image

~LoL~

8 years! Woah, that's a long time. I've just been assembling a unit of orc warriors. I made a conversion of the orc champion. He doesn't look like an orc anymore. He looks a lot harder! :D

Now that you mention it... I feel old. Image Image I was thirteen when I started playing Fantasy Battle (I'd been doing Fantasy Role-play for about a year) and I still have some of my originally painted models. Image They're so painful to look at it burns the retinas, but I'm too lazy to go back and repaint a hundred plastic goblin spearmen. Image

Good idea Aegis. We can post our army list. My complete Waaagh roster:

40 Orc boyz
25 Orc Arrer Boyz (archers)
25 Black Orcs
An Orc Shaman on foot
Grom and his Wolf Chariot
A custom made Orc Boar Chariot
3 Goblin Doom Divers
A Rock Lobber (catapult)
50 night goblins
60 goblins
10 Orc Boar Boyz
10 Savage Orc Boar Boyz
A Savage Orc Shaman on a boar
Five Ogres (now defunct, damn rules upgrade Image Image)
3 River Trolls
6 fanatics
A Giant
An Orc mounted on a Wyvern (the latest model of such)
Azhag the Slaughterer (also mounted on a Wyvern)
Gorfang Rotgut
Morglum Necksnapper
Skarsnik and Gobbla
Wurrzag Ud Ura Zahubu
Grimgor Ironhide

I also have a few extra miscellaneous models, such as Brogghilda the Orc Queen (a conversion of the Bloodbowl Orc Cheerleader with some weapons added) and the infamous Black Goblin (based on the character featured in a spoofy issue of white dwarf, converted from the goblin jester found in Lair of the Orc Lord, which I also have a duplicate of). I'm sure I'm missing a few models, but that's the gist of my orc forces.
