Hey man...that attitude of yours is kind of lousy I think...haven't you ever heard - If you haven't got anything nice to say, you shouldn't say anything at all?!? But you're right about one thing...why should I take it personal....prejudice like that is just best ignored.... And sure...Sweden may not win a single game in the World Cup...but at least they are there....

Haha...well being half-english makes it very difficult for me...

Before the "draws" I had hoped to see England and Sweden in the World Cup final....being in the same group kind of makes that impossible... As long as one of them reaches the second round I'll be content...

Well, first of all, I believe France will have no problem handling first two opponents without Zinedine. They would probably win all their 1st stage matches easily without him...

About Dutch not being in the world cup -- I think it shows that qualifications system and quotas for different continents aren't right. I think the quotas for European teams to get into World Cup is too low compared to some other areas, and I think it would be justified to let more European teams to enter. And for that speaks also the fact that Finland has never gotten into World Cup! ......... No seriously, Finland hasn't played well enough in the qualifiers to get in the games. But still I want to celebrate our team, here it goes:

Well yes, sometimes you just don't like the style of a team. I recognise Argentina has many great players, perhaps currently the best, but I still don't like even if I think they are a very good team.

I'm not sure I understand your reasoning here. I haven't seen much of neither the Swedish nor Finnish football team, so let me take an example of my reasoning from another sport:

I love ice hockey. I like the Swedish playing style and I mostly think they have a good team. I also like the Finnish playing style, and I think they have an equally good team. Then I will cheer for the team who lost the last match, since the teams are equal and both deserve to win.

Or athletics: Finland have long and fine tradition of good javeliners. Sweden has no participants. Then I will naturally cheer for the Finnish participants since Finland is our neighbour country and I'm more familiar with their participants than participants from other countries.

PS We should not use our Swedish or Finnish language in our posts, since this is an international board where most people don't understand a word of those two minority languages.

Well for a start, one of the higher profile Brazillian players said that France had no chance of winning this years World Cup, and that the favourites were Argentina, Italy as well as their team Brazil

Furthermore Ronaldo said that had he been playing in 98, Brazil would of won the cup. IMO its a bit late to be going over past events...

It seems like Denmark have decided to make the headlines according to the Swedish style. Grönkjaer and Töfting obviously had a fight during today's training, resulting in a black eye.

@Tamerlane: Pondering past events with "what if" reasoning is not only meaningless, it's IMO also bad sportsmanship to claim we would have won if...Almost any team could say they would have won if only this and that. Sounds like Brazil are just sore losers. I see what you mean by snobbish.

I've always loved their football though, it's going to be interesting to see them play. It's said that their new coach has reduced the traditional "beuatiful game", that would be a pity

Don't worry, Locke, everybody can make a little mistake and joking in other languages than one's mother toungue is quite difficult, especially in written form when intonation or words can't be heard

I however just wanted you to know that I sort of feel it's natural to cheer for one's neighbours, since one is familiar with them and culturally close to them, so I didn't really understand what you meant.

Anyway, as should be obvious from my sig, I don't care a lot about nationality when I cheer for a team or an athlete. I may like a team because I think they play well, are fun to watch, show nice personalities in interviewes etc.

Only 2 days to go now to the start of the World Cup! I hope I will have time to watch the opening game, I'm quite curious about France's form and Senegal, a team I've never seen...

I have to admit that watching a world cup match at midday or morning is not what i had in mind but it sure not enough reason not to see the matches. Friday is nigh

My poor husband, he's trying to think out some hobby project he can do while the World cup is on

I, on the other hand have other plans - I'm sure I can lure him into an interest in football

Ehm, good luck with your exams Demis, I hope you have a good multitasking so you can watch the matches while studying

I might be good at multitasking, but what happens if this includes world cup watching and soon-to-be-delivered-to-my-home Morrowind playing amongst other things. Why does exams-period always has bad timing for me

If your exams are routine exams, I'd recommend you not to put too much effort into them, performing just to perform has no value, eh? If the result of your exams are important for your future, like further education or jobs, I'm afraid I'd say Morrowind has to go. The exams are limited in time, and so is the World cup, whereas Morrowind is a factor you have total control over yourself - you can play it any time and it's still there in July

I have planned to get it to my husband when it is released here, but I have decided I'm not goint to touch it myself before my holiday

It's strange how exam periods always are so badly timed - when I was a student, every single exam for 7 consecutive years, had such a bad timing

Unfortunately performance is not an option for most of us in the Univercity, we will be greatly glad just to pass the lessons

. There are a couple of lessons that are set on the must-pass priority these exams for me which manly require programming so i might be able to squeeze practice-my-programming-skills into the mutlitasking of the days to come.

Indeed!

Giving my pc to one of the neighbours should prove to be my demise and result in a total failure in my exams.

That should be interesting. It's like France vs. France, as Senegal have French coach, similar style of play (so I've heard) and most of their players play in... yes, France!

And as most of Frech national side players play in other countries, I wonder who will average Frechman support in that game... ?(OK, France of course, but just a thought)

@Locke: don't sweat it. I'm the master of poor jokes, so I probably know pretty much how you feel

@Demis: don't do the same mistake I did -- while I should've been studying I played games. While I should have been sleeping before studying I played games. While I should have been taking an exam I played games... OK, I dropped out of that school and luckily got a job where I like to be, but I might as well have ended on the dole... and then I wouldn't afford to buy games to play...-misery-

STUDY, young man, you can play games later! (but you can't watch world cup later, so there you perhaps need to make some compromise...

)
