Yeah, we don't want Uncle Weasel to show up and start corrupting the boy. Image Image
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

@Kayless: Nice ferret. :D I see that you have made a great evolutionary leap to mammalhood. Congrats. ;)

What kind of a person was I in high school:

Let's clear the mists of time once again and travel back to the mid 80's, where we met young Ned Flanders during his high school days. Take a 747 flight from the US to (then) West Germany, and there you will find me rebelling against authority in an American high school on a military installation. I attended numerous schools - far too many to mention here - but school there was my next to the last stop before I escaped the educational system for good in 1987.

What was I like? Hmmm...school bored me to tears, really, and at this point I was much too disturbed by the school system itself to care about their curriculum. I performed well on the tests that were given to me, but I earned terrible grades throughout high school as I simply didn't give a whit about homework - I rarely ever put my hand to it. I had long hair, and wore t-shirts, jeans, and high top Nikes, and while I resembled a metalhead in appearance, and was associated with the potheads on occasion, I had friends in every social circle, and didn't really fit in with any of them. I was known by just about everyone, despite being rather shy. Like Ode, I was feared in some odd sort of way (I have no idea why either).

How am I now? LOL, I have traveled full circle, it would seem. Whereas in my early school years I was a straight "A" student - most certainly a nerd - I transformed into a strange, long-haired entity in high school. Upon leaving high school, I once again became a nerd in the US Army, complete with short haircut and good manners. Upon leaving the Army, I stuck to being a preppy sort for a few years, wandering about trying to find a good place to spin my cocoon so I could transform again. I found that place here in Tennessee four years ago. I am once again a strange, long-haired entity, only this time I am able to grow a beard to go with it. :D

Hmmm..... a large part of my life in school is defined by the fact that I test well. Realising this, I cunningly spoke not a word in class for the first 3 months of school. This allowed people to assume (correctly, but anyway) that I was one of those socially inept quiet people, but crucially, not smart . Thus, when my first test results came out, I managed not to fall prey to the anti intellectaulism that caused on of my friends to leave the school. Instead, a sort of woefully misplaced respect for me arose, which perseveres (and causes me much private merriment) to this day.
Then one day, the headmaster announced, in front of the entire school (!), that I had gotten a scholarship to Dublin City University. I hadn't, but by the time I managed to clarify, the damage was done, so to speak. I was in fact about to attend this , where I made every one of my close friends, who are the most warm, friendly, intelligent, genuine, funny people I ever met. Strikingly similar to SYM, really.
Nowadays, I have one or two good friends in school, but most of my friends live several hours away, so I see them intermitently at big reunions, where we fight with inflatable hammers, terrorise bandstands, write on each other and attempt to sing American Pie. Ahh, the memories......
Your knowledge is impressive
And your argument is good
But I am the resurrection, babe,
And you're standing on my foot!

*Hail this thread, Hail the search funtion.. Wherein you may type any word and find threads of this class, this is the best thread ive ever seen*

I had a about an hours drive to there nearest high school, there werent no bus.. But thankfully my dad worked near the school and I got lifts and such, otherwise I would have had to go correspondance, which wasnt an option.. Or move the city with my mother and sister, who I have nothing against.. I just dont like the city. It stinks.

So Id say the sheer amount of fun I had in high school overode what anything though of me, which wasnt much. A few people would 'befriend' me , becouse my dad let me drive a wrecked up moke and they wanted a go, I also had a really really old .22 which I used to shoot the moke, and tin cans and everything that wasnt living or worth money.. I had a great time, even though I was practicly alone for all of those years.. Save a friend or two in town, one who did his work by correspondance, The other who went to school, but she tended to ignore me once inside its hallowed walls. I copped vast amounts of stick, not just becouse I was a fairly rough kid (Not violent, But I got pulled off / Had kids pulled off me, many a time by an angry teacher) but I did pretty well at sports, still I just didnt seem to be able to get friends, as much becouse I had no way of socialising with them outside school and becouse well, I came from a way away, a VERY small town and that made me different

But here, here my friends.. Is high school

Long story short, by the time I turned 18 (Still in 12th year, due to a smelly repeat).. My dad moved away, I had a dingy ass job, he didnt want to sell the house and nor did my mother (They were split but on vere good terms) so I stayed on, and OMG I suddenly became incredibly popular, given that I had a place where music could be very loud, there was no authority and parties could be held.. But heres the thing, Not one stinking rat that had anything bad to say about me got anything but scorn.. So HO HO HO, My real friends from outside rubbish highschool reaped the rewards of my good luck, and heres the funny part..

I started out being called Lame country boy, and being ostracised becouse of my proximity, that I could not be part of there wonderous social calendar (Nor Carred to, after I got over my Early teenage indignation at not being popular)

I ended up being called Lame Prude, becouse I had something they wanted and they messed there chance at getting it years beforehand

I can definatly say I enjoyed my highschool years, if not the actual highschool.. and I dont think its left me with anything im going to carry around aside from funny stories and the like, generally teenagy bollux you tend not to forget
