User you always keep my spirits up too. Is all that stuff you said true??? Wow. Well like you said, at least you're alive, and happy birthday anyway - how dare those jerks pick YOUR birthday to blow up New York. Like you havent had enough Sh!t!

I really hate BMWs though. Maybe you should get something else ;)

(I'm sorry everyone this thread has traveled a little far from HD, but hey did anyone ever notice how good he is with a crossbow?)

To my knowledge, he isn't better than any other rogue with a X-Bow.

Well, the blade's offensive spin gets him more attacks and lower THACO with it than any bard or regular thief would have, and he can use a heavy crossbow, which any bard can use but thieves can't...so he's better than any thief or bard, but not any better than any other blade.

all true, including the bmw part. i was planning on a new color selection, looks just like battleship gray, james bond's favorite color for his cars in the books. sigh.

actually, id pick crossbows for keldy and korgy...

korgy becasue he looks so funny with a long bow, taller than he is, and greater whirlwind besides his offensive spin, is the only way to increase rounds per minute...so i guess happy harry is good for something after all...

I just have a problem with blades and bards in general. too frolicky, you know, no real business in a organized looting expedition.

they also only get picks from the thief pool, right???

If so, multi fighter thief is so much better...think greater whirlwind and assassinate!

Fair enough, didn't think of the Offensive Spin. On the other hand, the Swashbuckler gets +1 to his ThAC0 for every five levels, meaning his bonus will be better after 15th level. The Assassin gets a +1 bonus to his THAC0 as well as the poison ability, which will make lots of extra damage. As to Heavy X-Bows, thieves can use these after getting the Use Any Item ability. And two of the best X-Bows, Firetooth and the Light X-Bow of Speed, are usuable without this ability.

Bards are so much more than just a simple fighter. Take the Enhanced Bard Song for example - will make your whole party amazingly strong. And believe me when I say that a Fighter/Thief wouldn't stand a chance against a Blade on Tenser's with Blur, Mirror Image, Stoneskin and Offensive Spin activated.

I just don't know...

never got into bards much, too much like a thief mage multi with a cap on the spell level, and that was bad to me, cause you all know how much I love spells!!

anyway, when the dude sings, what does it sound like? I might pick him up for a while to just see if the animation for offensive defensive spin looks as silly as I imagine it to be...

hee hee!

You miss the point - one of the greatest thing about Bards is that they are in fact single class and gain levels extremely fast. This makes many of their spells (such as Skull Trap, Stoneskin, Tenser's etc) more powerful. Another difference from the Mage/Thief is that you can use all weapons (except Carsomyr and such) from start.

Have you ever heard a silent song? Cause that's what it's like. You do get a few notes from a Harp (?) upon activating it, though. The Defensive Spin makes the Blade blurred IIRC, and gives a blue icon on the portrait. The Offensive Spin changes nothing, apart from a red icon on the portrait.

Hello all ! :)

Well, I think bards are very cool because of what Astafas just said. Actually, I once thought about having one as the main character but I need her to have the traps-finding/breaking ability (dunno how to say) and the bards can only steal things... By the way, when I'll recreate Yorleen as a thief/mage, I hope she could fight with 2 swords or so ?

By the way, sorry to change topic but is anybody very good at drawing ? I ask that because I'm not and I just so would like to have some more drawings of Yorleen. I find the portrait I use for her on a website but I just can't remember which. In fact, basically, the girl had blue eyes and white skin so I just used a drawing software to change the colours a little... I like green hair ! ;)

I see HTML is not available here so here's the URL of her picture:
www.ifrance.com/yorleen/yorleen.gif

Anyway, gotta go now... Talk to you again soon and may Tymora be with you. ;)

Well, bards can actually lay traps as a high level ability. Quite odd how they can master these special traps when the don't know how to lay ordinary ones.

Then you should absolutely go for a Swashbuckler/Mage, otherwise there will be penalties to your THAC0 as other thieves can't put more than * in dual wielding.

I'm sure there is. Not me, though, so I'll leave that to the more talented.

yorleen, you can always take a digital picture of yourslef and convert the gif to bmp....draw opaque, then make sure its in 256 color, and crop to same size as your other downloaded pictures, and voila! you can see yourself as the main char!

Too bad lady nightshade is no longer up and running, she had by far the best pictures in the web....

havlok's portraits and sounds is ok, but not really great.

luckily I downloaded a bunch of the best from lady nightshade before she went off teh air...

want a zip of my collection? around 80 or so, and mostly girls  casue I like to fool around with

NAERIE.BMP

and the other ncp names an putting various replacements for the ncp portraits in the override directory....

if you can figure out the correct name for a file that the game engine extracts from cab files in the override directory, then you can replace the standard portraits in the game with ones you choose...

my favorite one for my uber sorc, mark 8 or 9, the one that can whack kangaxx in 10 seconds flat, is the vampire-demonic hero of C.S Friedman's novels. he looks like this warrior type, with glowing blue sword held high, and thats why I always get black blade of disaster for role playing effects....

any way, let me know if you want a copy of my collection.

User Unfriendly, I would like to have some pics. I didn't know Lady Nightshade went off the net. I thought it was just my internet that screwed up when I tried to go... I lost most of my pics I had from her site... My dad forgot to do a back up of my files when he reinstalled Windows a while back. :(
So if u wouldn't mind I would like some.

Yorleen I saw your pic of *Yorleen* It's very nice. :)
