This is true but IMO mage=3*fighter

No arguments there but that still doesn't mean that it is better to have a mage heavy party :D

So then my conclusion is that a well balanced party should have one thief, one cleric, one fighter and one mage. That leaves to spots open for other characters unless you have multis. We have mage+mage=mage, fighter+fighter=2*fighter and mage=3*fighter. For most power we should then put 2 fighters in the open spots since that gives us mage+3*fighter=6*fighter.
Hence it is better to have a fighter heavy party.

My partys are always consisting of two magic users, always..
Right now i have:

Galadriel, sorceress =)
Kelsey, Sorcerer
Anomen, Fighter/cleric
Romero, Fighter/Thief

just say unbeatable...but i havent really met all these improved guys...the dragons, beholders, U know what will come! =)
mages/sorc can beat the hell out of every single opponent in the game. Yes yes so can fighter...so what? A fighter must have something to help him dispell all those nasty protections every harder opponent throws on him self...=)

Conclusion: Sorcerers makes the game alot easier.

with 3 sorcs you are basically impossible to beat, even ascention + sola with everything installed is insanely easy...

9 abu dahzims make mince meat of most enemies, and the true benefits of chain contingency is you kill them before their defenses are fully up, and before they hit you with their spells....

of course, my 3 sorcs, kelsey, tashia and bun bun, were invincible....

of course, bun bun is actually 5 times more powerful than any sorc..... so i was actually playing with 7 sorcs...hehehheheh  :D
They call me Darth...

dios, bun bun is more powerful than a whole party of just sorcs....

immune to charm, stun, hold, level drain.....

kensai to hit and ac bonuses...

immune to timestop, imprison, and maze....

use any item...

perminant greater acuity....

bhaal powers regen....

version 8 had perminent spell turning as per soa cloak of mirrors...

thinking of adding wing buffet immunity for 9....

a version of bun bun with monk avatar???have yet to test this, but by simply changing avatar, should get the +5 fist item that comes with monk....

also, all the bun buns are designed with malice aforethought to take advantage of game engine abuse...like endless spells, and project image summons abuse....

but its been fun, since bun bun6, i pretty much have a good idea of what innates to add, i have had a lot of fun playtesting to maximize the utility of bun bun,.....

these days i am also hacking extensively the rest of the party....

shapeshifter fighter, jahiera...(thinking of making her shapeshifter kensai....hahahahah)

kensai mage sola

conjuror cleric aerie

immie is a wildmage thief dual...with spike traps...hahahhah....
They call me Darth...

Darth Gizka!

Muwahahahahhahahha!!!

In BG2

In Baldur's Gate II, a party of Sorcerors, Mages, or Clerics will easily beat a party of any fighter or thief characters if the enviroment is pretty small, and it depends on their level. There are so many factors, like enviroment for one. If a magic user party goes against six thieves, and the thieves can stealth/backstab, the fight will be over before it begins.

If you're hoping your fighters will win because of magic resistance, you're going to get blown to smitherines. Fighters would have to rely on getting lucky saves or having a big area to run away in and use a ton of potions of invisibility until they waste all of the mages spells and then wait until all the mage's protections are gone, and then they can actually try to attack the mage.

Another thing is magic items and spell selection.

I remember being in so many of these discussions at the BIS board, I don't know why I jumped into this one. :)

I think that fighters are better in the beginning of SoA. Then the mages become powerful in the later stages. In ToB, the fighters become more powerful again. But in the very end, the mages go to the top. So my point is have a balanced party unless you're roleplaying. ;)

You got that right. In my fight against the murderers in Spellhold, I had 5 party members that can cast stone/ironskin. I didn't even use true sight. When I played a fighter heavy party, I go backstabbed badly. :p

But through a role laying aspect (which I think @thaGforce was talking about) you don't know the enimy is coming and therefore no stone skin can be cast. But sinse most amges go with stoneskine raised all the tiem if power gaming then back stab is useless.
