ok, i admit it....
i am getting bored of anomen bashing and actually feel sorry for him.... besides, i think its all been done before, and as fable pointed out, people have been bashing him for a long time now, and the topic is getting old...
i do freely admit to starting this thread to show off my creative wit, but you really have to start feeling sorry for him...
but this topic did get me thinking, those of you who are red dwarf fans know rimmer is by far the annoying git in existance, every mannerism and personality quirk is written with malice aforethought to grate on the viewer like fingernails on a chalkboard...
was anomen written the same way, or was he simply following the trend of the bioware romances to provide a "redemption" interest to the romance???
i mean, jahiera you have to redeem her from her grief over khalid, and redeem her from her troubles...quite a lot of troubles, in fact...viccy, if you choose the "nice" dialogs, you can eventually get her to accept the pc as a nice guy, and still get the romance to work, its harder, and you get a lot of abuse, but its redeeming a bad girl...aerie, you have to get her to stop brooding and try to get her to accept life on the ground, and get her mind and heart off her troubles by providing her with something else to latch on to....
could it be bioware wrote anomen to be annoying on the beginning, but after you help him win his knighthood, he is meant to be much more likable and fun to have in your party? thus you redeem him from his problems with his family and a much nicer and fun member of the party is born???? and if so, how good of a job did they do???
it certainly makes a lot more sense, and is much more in tune with the trend in the other romances....
based on certain things aqua have posted in other topics in the past, sir anomen is supposedly much nicer and more personable than the pre knighthood....but supposedly as well, the plain fighter anomen is also interesting and full of angst....
i personally have only enjoyed abusing him only when i could come up with something funny and witty, and anomen has only been really a target of convience....however i make no apology for my previous anobash post, since i did state right out my idea was to gather ideas for lord m's next mod...and i am looking foward to that mod because lord m is both witty and creative...
this does beg the question, though...how do people feel about the tob part of the anomen romance?? aerie has a much expanded tob romance, which makes sense, as her soa romance was short and hard to mess up, jahiera has a very short tob romance, as her soa romance is long and complex, viccy has also a fairly short tob part, no where near as long as the soa, so how is anomen expansion in tob???
its interesting that the upcoming bioware flirt packs, which promise to seriously extend the bioware romances is eagerly looked foward to, but i wonder if a lot of people will open their eyes wide and say
"aerie/viccy/anomen/jahirea would NEVER say that..."
i mean the original run thru we have all had pretty much locked those anthromorphic personalities in our minds...and while kelsey tashia and sola introduced new characters, new friends for us, imoen romance and the bioware flirt packs are doing something much much harder and more interesting from a critical point of view...they are trying to ADD to our views of the 4 romances, by adding dialog and interactions which they try their damndest to keep to the spirit of the bioware 4, and provide dialog that does not grate on our existing view and mental image of the 4 of them...
i really really look foward to seeing how their efforts work out, and i know at least 2 modules are in active beta test now, so much fun will be had by all, and
rangers and hamsters will rejoice!!!
