I think "across the planes" might be a slight exaggeration.
Come to think of it, I do think I've heard of it, and it is a prominent institution that is fairly well known in Faerun--mainly among wizards and other educated types. Or at least that's how I plan to treat it.

Sorry about the lengthy posts. I tend to do that on occasion
Anyway, I felt inspired, and I accidently worked myself in a larger scale skirmish then I had intended, so it kind've dragged out. Anyway, I'm happy with the results. As par usual, I hope you enjoyed it.
@Magus: I'm sure that little Nethril artifact could have something cool and funky that'll traverse the distance more quickly

@Aegis: You speak as if we could tire of your writing.
You do things with combat I could never reproduce.
Ah, the artifact. Who needs walking when you got volatile ancient magic at your disposal?

Just something that dawned on me. In the previous Athkatla's, I recall some slight issues with time continuity. Maybe it we should make it so only Magus is allowed to progress the day/night shifts, that way we peons of his don't inadvertantly move it ahead to fast.
I think this will allow Magus a little more focus on the story, and not worry on whether it's chronolgically fallins together. Thoughts?

Theoretically, that sounds like a good idea. As Aegis says, time continuity was a nagging issue in Athkatla II. And Athkatla I...well it had many issues.
However, if only I can progress time, it limits you guys's freedom in a fairly significant manner.
The decision's up to you guys though.

@Rob-hin: Ah, I see where you're coming from. I believe the word you were looking for is "plains." English is great like that, isn't it?
I try.
@all: Um...yes I should really read all of the posts before I start posting stuff here. I responded to Aegis's post without realizing he was referring to a problem that had already cropped up.
@CM: Your character arrived a day before Aerie, right? And now it's the following morning, after the events that are occuring right now have already happened? I suppose I should be thankful it happened the day before, or I'd suddenly be without a Geldyn.
Sergeant: Geldyn, is this true?
...
Sergeant: Geldyn?
But yes, the story would flow somewhat more intuitively, in this specific case, if Talwar:
1) Woke up a couple hours before dawn, at the same time Yolta is confronted by the guard, or
2) Didn't wake up until morning, but the post is delayed until it actually is morning.
I'm not saying you should change it, CM (as you've already posted it), but it's something to keep in mind for the future at least. The whole back-to-the-future thing is a neat idea, but if everybody keeps on time traveling we're going to have one messed up storyline.
Flashbacks are fine, but remember that the person having the flashback should ideally still be firmly grounded in the present.
But, back to the issue in general...
I think you guys not being able to progress time in general would be highly restrictive. However, progessing time when other characters are clearly in the middle of something...requiring a back-to-the-future storyline...is another thing entirely.
I mean no offense to CM when I say this...as I'm sure it was just an oversight on his part...but to restrict everyone because of one small mistake might not necessarily be the way to go. But that's just my 2 cents...and subject to change, at that.

Well, I've purposely kept out of saying when exactly my part is taking place. For all we know (and which will probably be the case), the things happening with Virrilis and Sethin have already taken place, and it's just a prologue to their involvement, if not the greater story. (In other words, when it's complete, and all put together, my stuff is the prologue... Suckers
)

Well that's wonderful...especially since I had things worked out so as to be consistent with the two stories happening concurrently.
Bah...I suppose placing the story as happening a month later won't change much, though. Maybe Aerie walks slow, or she and Void had a fight and they camped out for a while, sulking...
Or maybe finding that orb in the first place just took a while.
And you're complaining about time continuity?!

Oh...not fair, not fair, not fair! I lost my witty rebuttal, and it's all your fault Aegis! Just know that it was good, and witty, and that it showed you up good! <goes off to sulk>

You can never be wrong when you’re vague, eh? Except when the DM has already formed his world concept, and you slash it to confetti with whirling katanas and wakazashis!
Yeah, flexibility. You mean Aegis can show up anywhere, anytime, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it or even anticipate it.
I’m getting a vision…two vials of pale green liquid…they’re miraculous and completely unexpected Tree of Life potions! And they’re here to screw you and everything you’ve so carefully planned, Mr. DM!
Ah…good times. <laughs>
There, I think that’s how it went…

I was almost expecting a different Archmagi to turn around

I actually considered that.
I opted for something more disconcerting.

Well, I added my own little bit in. They're on the road, but I don't intend to make it easy on them. It's just a short little insertion. I felt I needed to at least somewhat address Rail and Ferchen. I feel, though, I'm not doing justice to Rail, but hopefully I'll get him more into character. Until then, I'm using the excuse he's changed somewhat

Well, Rail is Rail. I think only he could truly do his character justice, as only you can do yours justice. Unfortunately, it's been 4 months since he's even accessed the site...
Oh, and you did mention time in your posts. Where did you think I got my two months? It was because you said a couple months after Athkatla II either somewhere in Soulforge, or in the Soulforge Discussion Thread. So there.

@CM: Darn you...
I had Rob in a nice little quandary too.
I see you editted your post. Unnecessary, but appreciated nonetheless.
And, of course, you get the delight of thwarting my nefarious plans...

@CM: BTW, how old is Talwar? You said he and Geldyn got some sort of revenge 20 years ago...yet Geldyn is still young...that puts Geldyn in his 20's in my book...that means he was less than 10 when he helped Talwar kill things.
