Originally posted by Scayde I am not an appologist for the Mormon Faith, but it would seem that the link you have provided is very much in conflict whith the official position of their church...Here is a link to their official site if you are interested.
You find that a lot in religions (Protestant Christianity no exception). The "official position" isn’t always what the church truly thinks/believes, but a way of downplaying certain controversial issues to make it more appealing to a mainstream audience (Scientologists, for example, do a great job of downplaying the more dubious aspects of their faith). I'm sure the Mormon official website doesn't mention founder Joseph's Smith's numerous arrests either (since it's all about PR).
Now I don’t mean to sound like some anti-Mormon witch hunter. Mormons are nice people and I respect faith in any form, but I don't hold with them being Christians (at least in the sense that my wee little brain defines what is a Christian). Your mileage may (and does) vary. But, as I said earlier, I know people who are Mormons in real life and I tend to put more value on face-to-face conversations then what I read on some web page (even the links I post myself). I appreciate their zeal if not their actual beliefs, if that makes any sense.
Originally posted by Scayde As far as I am concerned, if they believe they are Christians, I have no right to judge them otherwise, anymore than I do those who follow Jerry Fallwell, and I disagree with his teachings far more than I do theirs.
If I believe that I am a Hispanic haberdasher from London named Juan Dinky Dee does that make it so?
Kidding. These debates always wear me out (since I am not counted among the learned nor the wise) so I think I'm just going to go back to making silly comics now.
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
@Kayless- Yes, these arguments do become tiring. Theres not much else I can say anyways, so I think im just gonna stop posting in this thread unless I feel I need to.
John 3:16-17
16-For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, so that anyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
17-Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Tee hee, actually if anyone bothered to do any research, they might discover that my official religion is Jedi Knight.

A herring? What do you take me for! A fool! I use a sturgeon!

Now, you have to wonder. Am I baiting a trap? Do I want you to comment? Do I have some incredably witty retort planned. Perchance I am merely testing the water. Throughout it all, you find yourself wondering how many motives might I have. Five? Perchance six. how can you be sure. So you gotta ask yourself one thing...
