I just....

started this game yesterday. I must admit that I postponed it until now for a reason: Daggerfall put me off computer gaming for almost 2 years. The reason was the bugs, og course. I loved the original Arena, and was drooling in line to get Daggerfall when it came out. I will never forgive Bethesda for releasing that travesty on us as an unfinished product. I'm not going to get into the deranged automapper or stuff like that, but when I got stuck in a wall for the gazillionth time, I opened my window and threw the whole stinking thing across the street and took up fishing.

But this... from the word go, when that gangplank creaks and the gorgeous theme song hits you.... Oh my! I am, of course, completely clueless and fritzing around with no money and even less prospect. But it's fun! :D

Dragon Wench, I haven't ventured far into Mournhold (Tribunal) yet, but I just finished Bloodmoon's major quest. I hope you'll appreciate Solstheim as much as I did... I really fell in love with the landscape.

@Moonbiter, lol! I know that clueless feeling well :D For a laugh you should check out the link to "A Clueless Wood Elf," journal which is posted somewhere around here, LMAO! :D

@Coot, I'm sure I will... the landscapes in this game have been so gorgeous all round. I am thinking I'll update my graphics card and get some additional RAM so that I can truly appreciate the game... right now I have a bunch of stuff turned way down and it is still beautiful!
Though I'm going to wait before venturing to either Solstheim or Mournhold, since I am having enough trouble remaining focused just within the main game ;)

True, most landscapes are gorgeous... I just sit down and watch the sun go up or down, and at night the sight of 2 moons is great!
But what I think the most beautiful part of the game is, is the water. Water looks só realistic..

The sight of those two moons when I first saw them just blew me away! It was just after a thunderstorm, which had also left me awed, and the skies cleared...wow!

I know what you mean about the water. I swam over to the Mud Crab the other night and actually did a bit of 'diving'. The video game experience almost evoked snorkling somewhere like the Caribbean where the water is incredibly clear.
It is also amazing just watching the sun rising and setting on the water. The visuals in Morrowind are unlike anything I have ever seen!

I could have sworn that there were three moons. Speaking of which, with all that lunar gravity going on, why aren't there tides and surf in the water? (aside from the fact that it would be impossible to program ;) )

Hmmm... there could well be three moons. I'll pay closer attention when I'm out under the stars next time. My memory for retaining details is notoriously poor...

lol! Well given that they can program the sun rising and setting, and an entire weather system, I suspect they could have written in tidal activity too, but I'm no techie so I could well be wrong. Though I'm just as pleased they didn't; the game already strains my system resources. I'm still using my old Pentium 3, 1 G processor, 256 MB RAM and an Nvidea 64 TNT graphics card... Getting a tad outdated! ;)

There's some stuff that's typically pc-rpg drivel, but you learn to live with it. Like.. I'm a Dark Elf in Morrowind, the birth place of the Dark Elves, yet everyone can see miles away that I'm a furriner. :D Nobody ever sleeps, which makes being a burglar pretty useless. And so on and so forth...

Right now, very early in the game, I've been hired by by the cops to murderlize some Tong in Balmora. The problem is of course that they kick my hindquarters up around my ears if I even contemplate such a thing, ganging up on me like an American Football team. I am basically trying to kill one os them in the basement, ot of sight of the rest, but of course they'll notice! Like I said, standard computer-rpg hogwash.

Oh, and I never saw the moons, cuz it's been raining for 2 weeks solid... ;)

That's a bit strange indeed, the water doesn't move at all. Except when you wade/swim trough and when it rains. And it *suddenly* stops at the shores.

But I guess you'd need supercomputers for that kind of stuff.

There are no tides because there are two moons! The two moons keep the water in perfect balance. =sigh= Do I have to explain everything to you guys?? ;) :p

I dont know if thats true, as it would depend on where the two moons were in relation to each other and to morrowind, the chances are that the moons orbits would be changing constantly due to the gravitational pull of everything, therefore there would be no "perfect" balance. but then im basing my opinion on real life, so what do I know? :D

But the 2 moons are both visible, so wouldn't there be extreme tides, because there is the gravity of 2 moons instead of 1?

Here is what happened: when them Dwemer were still around they really had a problem with the changes in the tides - very violent because of those two moons - thank you, Fer'or, for pointing that out, we Dutch are a smart bunch.
Now, you have to remember, those Dwemer were not the tallest guys around, quite the contrary, they were dwarves, after all, and they really liked the beach, but those tides kept washing them away, Dwemer swimming suits and all.
So one of them invented a constant effect item that cast paralyze on the sea. It all makes sense, because we all know Dwemer were all so good at inventing these kind of things. Ask Vivec & Co. So, no more tides. Easy as cliff racer pie.
And, incidentally, that's why those slaughterfish are so blasted cranky, because they are in a bad place, emotionally, because they figure there should be tides. And they're right, IMHO.

God, I'm bored :D ;)

Okay, rookie alert.
So, how far can I take it in this game. I mean, can I waltz into somebody's house/cottage/manor, kill the bally lot of them and simply take it over? And just how do I figure out what skills I need to train to advance in the guilds? I'm not getting anywhere in the Mage's Guild, and the woman wants me to get better in something, she just won't tell me what! I WANNA BE A JOURNEYMAN, GADDANGIT!

Moonbiter:
When you look at your stats screen (in the upper left after right-clicking), scroll all the way to the bottom. You'll see a list of which factions you belong to (Blades, etc.) Hover your mouse over the faction name, and it will tell you what skills and stats are needed for the next level.

Moonbiter,
yes, for the most part you can just invade someone's house and do them all in. the house becomes yours, really. I was testing my thief abilities when the lord of the manor noticed me making off with the dragon's share of his fine china. He asked me about it and I...well...killed him. Just for larks, I went outside to see how much the fine would be for killing a lord. however, when I chatted with the local guard, he just advised me to "Move along." Bloody hell! I guess the house is mine! Sweet! My own mansion in Balmora! Of course, there were a few repercussions later, but, hey, I am the chosen one so back off. Of course, the morality of home invasion might factor in somewhere, but that is up to you.

Well you may want to check on your character stats screen to see whether or not there is a bounty on your head (near the bottom of the screen along with "reputation")... though I believe that the thieves guild knows of individuals that will remove bounties for a price.
