(and I somehow feel sorry for people that didn't get to experience this feel :D )

Annoying that I can't really get the "underdog" site to work proberly (no images are shown, and can't download either) because I've been hunting some of the old games (Origin's for instance) :(
Well...I remember playing Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Commander Keen the first time, but by that time they were already considered "classics" :D

Funny, it works fine for me...maybe try this URL:

(sorry, but I can't get the "insert hyperlink" button to work)

@fable...that's why I think people feel certain games are overrated. The game might've been hailed as almighty and whatnot, but in the end, it's still the same gameplay as something else. An example might be Diablo which led to a slew of clones (Darkstone, Nox, Diablo 2, Sacred). The quests, graphics, story and maybe the extraneous stuff got better, but the gameplay is essentially the same. Deus Ex was a great game IMO, probably one of my favourites. But it basically just brought System Shock/Thief gameplay to a whole new level which no one had seen before.

Overrated games

I think the following games were overrated (in here):

Dune 2000 -- Yes, three sides, but IIRC only difference between those sides was ONE special unit. Everything else was same on every sides.

Daikatana -- Well, everything has said here already

Final Fantasy 8 -- I have played every game in this serie, and liked every but VIII. This is 'cause the exp-system sucked. Every level needed same amount of EXP, and if you level, monsters became harder. Easiest way was to stay on starting levels, and to do this, only you got to do is run from every fight not including bosses.

Driver -- That practicing stuff you needed to do before you could start campaign was just too hard. I needed 20 hours just to learn those tricks and to learn to do them in given time (which was too short IMO)

NWN -- Singleplayer game was so boring, that I couldn't keep on playing.

The Sims -- Read thread "The Sims" in Game Discussion and you get my thoughts

I agree that Dune 2000 was poor. But Dune 2 was magnificent for its time.
The only reason (I think) Dune 2000 was created - or Dune 2 was remade if you wish - was because of the immens success of RTS genre, so the deveoplers thought they could recapitalize on the big name that was Dune 2.

In agreement with most people, NWN was very overrated. I had to pay full price for it, and even though I played for a few months, it really wasn't worth the money I paid for it. At all.

Starcraft had an amazing story and an amazing feel to it (it deserves high honours). But, the gameplay sucked, in my opinion. Probably because I was corrupted by C&C. ;) Starcraft was a great game, but it doesn't live up to its name, IMHO.

C&C Red Alert 2. It was as bad as Tiberian Sun was. Well, alright, a little better. Not much, though.

Couter-Strike. I played it and didn't really enjoy it. It was just a glorified Rainbow Six using another engine, and the majority of the players were whiny cheaters. *shrugs*

Enter the Matrix. Played it, and failed to see what was so great about it.

Probably some that I've forgotten, too.

I had the same thoughts. I loved the story (thought it was probably one of the best RTS stories ever) but parts of it just didn't click with me (gameplay). And yes, I was probably jaded/corrupted by Red Alert and Age of Empires. I dunno if it was just me, but the AI seemed a helluva lot quicker and smarter in Starcraft than in any other RTS I've played, especially in Brood War, where the odds are really stacked in the computer's favour. Resources seemed to be guzzled quicker too and at times, I felt that it wasn't strategy that won, it was who was faster at developing and producing better units. So many tactics involved rushing of some sort (Hydralisk, Siege Tank, Marine/Firebat/Medic, Zealot/Dragoons) and not planning. But meh, just my opinion and there are thousands of people who love the game, for good reason.

This is probably one of the few games mentioned in this thread that actually was deserving of all its praise.

I think Medal of Honor is pretty overrated. Granted, I've only played Allied Assault, but it was pretty boring to me.

I really enjoyed Max Payne, though, I played it through 4 times before moving on to a new game.
