As I said, paladins only believe in a god, but they don't get powers from them.
Is it that hard to tell?Originally posted by Nippy:

Uhm...
Our father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be they name. Thy kingdom come (seems like I forgot this part); thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Ok.. In nomine patis et fili et spiritus sanctis. Amen
I've small question (I posted it before but it was forgotten ....)
I want to start new game : PC ranger or paladin.
What is your advice - which class is more interesting, which kit ?
Thanks in advance.

Well, I just started Paladin and it's fun to play but I haven't done any of the Paladin-quests yet, so I don't know about them. I played an archer before, and I liked it too. IMHO, the ranger-quests are COOL! I would go for ranger.
Robin Hood
Robin Hood
Centuries ago in England........It was an era of chivalry and magic. The evil Prince John unleashed an iron fist of tyranny upon the people. They called out for a champion.........one man answered that call. His name, was Robin Hood. Fearless in his quest for justice Robin Hood challenged the power of the high warlords. While protecting the helpless and the poor. Willing to face death for what he believed, along with the beautiful, lady warrior, Jaheira, the mighty Minsc, and the wise Keldorn. Robin Hood forged a legend that lives on today in............
Well, let's compare...
Let's say you play the straight class and no kits.
Paladin
pro's
Lay on Hands: useful at high levels, but not invaluable (cleric will do the healing)
Cure Disease: I don't remember ever getting diseased in BG2
+2 to all saving throws: very decent!
Turn Undead: paladins sucks at doing this, it's the cleric's job
cleric spells at level 9: the ranger gets druid spells from level 8
can use Carsomyr: gimme gimme gimme!!
cons
has to be lawful good: boooring
has to be human: not really a bad thing, but humans don't get any bonuses at all; paladin can't even dual class!
IMO, the inquisitor is way better than the straight paladin.
Ranger
pro's
Charm Animal: yeah, so?
Stealth: very good to approach enemies / scout out the dungeon
druid spells at level 8: not invaluable, but the Call Insects - which paladins don't have - is nice
racial enemy: always a nice extra bonus
gets 2 slots in 2 weapon style standard: very cool!
can get the Moondog Figurine: Guenwhyvar anyone?
cons
has to be good-aligned: at least it's better than being lawful good
has to be human/elf/half-elf: not really a con: as a human, you can dual to cleric to become one of the best classes in the game; and as an elf, you gain bonuses to bow (don't know which one) and long sword
So I'd go with the ranger.

Well, if you're not planning on dual classing (you're an elf...), I'd go with either the stalker or the archer, depending on your playing style.
If you like backstabbing, the stalker is what you want. The elf bonuses for long sword are nice here.
If you prefer taking down enemies from a distance, archer is the supreme kit to do so. Your bow bonuses will make you even better. You'll waste your dual wield slots, though.
If you're into none of these styles, play a straight ranger. He can use heavy armour, and is therefor best suited for frontal fighting.

I think paladins are more fun for roleplaying purposes.
Anyway, i asked 2 questions that were unanswered, how do i in the best way defend against backstabbing, does true sight work ?
More importantly, what is the best defense against insect plaqe, creeping doom?
That thing you end your messages with might be good for you, The_pope, but for a cleric of Talos it wont do.
Sigurd, Crazed Cleric of Talos

Sigurd, Crazed Cleric of Talos, Servant of Evil.
True sight will not reveal a thief from the shadows if they have cloak of non detection. But if they used a potion of invisibility, it will.
I've always wondered about that.
But since none of the thieves in the game have the cloak of non detection, use true sight, or you can use the thiefs ability detect illusions. Both will work equally well.
As far as avoiding insect plague etc... just hope you have high saving throws and don't group your team in the one spot. Spread them out, so if it affects one, it wont get them all.

Cartoon Law III
Any body passing through solid matter will leave a perforation conforming to its perimeter. Also called the silhouette of passage, this phenomenon is the speciality of victims of directed-pressure explosions and of reckless cowards who are so eager to escape that they exit directly through the wall of a house, leaving a cookie-cutout-perfect hole. The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.
