Of course, importantly, you can always go light side and have your NPCs take the dark side powers. Yes, I know it uses up more force but realistically, its only a tiny bit! I had jolee and juhani with wave and storm and my main character as a full-on light master!
And you still get to feel all good inside.

This sounds kinda wierd, but when I played as a DS character, I felt so bad whenever I had to get dark side points.
"Please help! These Selkath have gone insane and I need to get back to the surface!"
"No thanks, I think I'll just kill you."
...or something like that.
I like being LS because it makes the game more genuine and with DS you can blow alot of things off just by killing people.

It's just a game. It's not like you'd do that kind of stuff in real life, like me.

LS is the best
I think that LS is the best. You dont have that that voice in the back of your head asking you "why did you do that" whenevr you treat some guy in the game like a JACK-A. Plus i like the robes and Crystals that they offer jedi on the LS. To me, the dark robes and red sabers make my char look like a bum.
-wut i did at the beginning of the game was try to go over to the DS, but it didnt feel right. I killed so many people for money that it was all useless mulah in the end. The time i went over to the LS is when i saw that one corporation treating those wookies on Kashyyyk like crap. i wanted to kill every corporation man on that planet. The wookies are the BEST race in the whole STAR WARS galaxy! Plus, i regreted killing Juhani in the beginning of the game for some DS points.
"Then for the rest of the game he was so mad at Bastila that he let her run around at like 1 health holding her side like she just got shot in the liver and laughing maniacally every time she dropped dead and saying "That's what it's like to be MY apprentice, B____ch, hope you like it." It was quite amusing."
(dude that is hilarious)

Sorry to bump this thread, just started to read it now
it depends on who you play as. One problem with KOTOR is that the best powers are for the darkside, but most of the Wisdom enhancing feats and items are restricted to the light side. But i would still definatly play dark side as a consular, others are your choice.
Well, the light sided powers are usually for them helping in a way, Like Heal or revalitize and stuff. Dark side powers are for one thing really. Death Or Destruction. As for the universal, those are for all.

either
i've played through as both, and they both have their good and bad sides. when ur dark, it's a lot easier because u a) get more money, and b) can kill most of the people who annoy you. the downside is that most of the time u feel like an a__hole when u kill someone like jolee. plus u get like, no good items, all the good ones are for the light people. the powers are also much more fun for the darkside.
when ur light, u get all the good items, u never feel like and a__hole, and then u get to feel good in the end because ur all like "yay i saved the galaxy im a good little jedi!" but ur poor for a long time, and get annoyed by a lot of people who u can't kill cuz then u'd get dark points, and the powers u get arre nowhere near as fun.
so yeah, i enjoyed being both. i guess its just a matter of ur playing style or whatever.

I found the best side was the way in which I played the game the first time through, which was LS. The storyline seemed to have more meaning than when I played DS the second time through. It just seemed like a DS variation of the ‘definitive’ version of events that I had experienced before. The reverse would probably be true if I had played DS first though.

I liked playing as light side. Mostly because I felt good after I beat the game. When you beat the game as a DS character, you don't quite feel as moral. I guess you're not supposed to.

This is a good way to take away the disadvantages in battle of being LS/DS
First, make sure you're a consular with a good chunk of wisdom.
If you're light side, get Force Storm anyways, the penalty won't be tha tbad if you're wisodm is way up
if you're DS get heal anyway, same reason.
I did thsi as both and found it much easier to fight.
I like DS as far as video games go. I find it more fun, plus, you look ver ybad ass at the end.

I play lightside, cause I find that the darkside is more obtruse than the ls. If you didnt have to threaten and kill to get DS points, and instead steal from behind peoples backs and manipulate, id love being DS. unforetunately, its not that way. Oh well, too bad.

Even though it's only a game and nothing that you do there really has any effect on anything, I still can't really bring myself to be evil, I don't know why. The first time I played the game I talked to Dia (the lady hiding in your apartment building) and told her to sit down and shut up because I was robbing her, then I asked her what was wrong and convinced her to tell me her problems (she must be pretty dumb to talk to a thief), once I'd heard her story I killed her so I could collect the bounty... I laughed really hard for a moment, and then felt so bad I had to go back to a saved game and play nice. I just couldn't bring my self to kill her! Sad, eh?
Anyway, light side for me all the way. I might use some dark side powers, but I always help all the pathetic people I come across who can't seem to get out of their own messes... fortunately I'm pretty good at Paazak and racing so money isn't an issue.

on another board, in a forum far far away (or 2 down the list), there was a conversation about what was so greatabout the dark side. Most people said that they couldnt bring themselves to doing it either, so yuor not the only one.

I always play the "Light Side" in rpg's because I hate the a-hole syndrome that everyone has described. In KOTOR, if you play a Consular and have a high enough wisdom you can get all of the dark side powers fairly easily (though Destroy Droid is still the most useful in the game) and still use the items like the Qel-dromma robes. I was using choke and stuff on dudes all the time. Who really cares about the money anyway. Sure it's fun to scam guys and stuff, but in the end you end up finding all the best items, not buying them.

I generally play dark sided. It doesn't matter to me what powers I choose, I generally choose a bunch of attack powers and a few light sigh (usually just Heal) and several neutral powers. But when it comes to conversations and doing good/bad acts, it's bad for me every time. It's like Ansem says in Kingdom Hearts: "Darkness is the heart's true essence." I tend to follow that dictum quite easily.
