Ahh yes. Good ol' Gamebanshee forums, where the people are NICE for a change. I have to say, have you noticed it's always the "oldtimer" games that get the good, openminded people? I've checked out the forums for some of the newer games (like say Doom3), and it seemed to be filled with testosterone derranged 15-year-olds who insist on speaking in nothing but a strange combination of 1337 781k and profanity and have the moral maturity of a lemur. I myself freqent only two forums: this one and MtGNews's forums. At least the people here and there are actually friendly. Oh and I lurk about the Pocket Plane Group's Forums every now and again

.
As for strange bannage stories, I don't have any of blatant misuse of power, but I do have one which I deemed to be unfair. You be the judge, anyhow.
As most of you probably know, I'm not the ... nicest person around. I have some rather ... unpopular beliefs, beliefs I'm very open about sharing. I don't hold back when sharing those ideas, unless someone expressedly tells me that it makes them uncomfortable and would I please stop, in which case I immediately cease. In any event, I was posting on one of the forums for a game I had just purchased (some FPS, can't remember which one, bah what's the difference FPS-game forums are all the same) and I started posting my beliefs (I believe it was the belief of, "who the hell cares if the game is 'realistic' or not? It's a game! If you wanted realistic go play paintball with your real-life friends. Why not discuss balance between weapons, such as how much the sniper rifle SUCKS despite its temendous range and power, or perhaps how the rocket launcher is somehow the most powerful weapon?"). For this, I was immediately banned. I did not recieve a reason, or notification. I didn't even get a notice on WHO banned me, although I had a good idea, since one of the posters was a 1337 speaking moron of a mod. So I PMed that mod, asking if he banned me, and finally he replies to me with (and cutting out the profanity and leet talk), "yeah I banned you". I PMed him back with a simple why, to which he responded, "you broke forum rules. You used the word 'hell'". Now aside from the fact that this mod himself used a swear every other word, I KNEW the real reason I was banned was that I had disagreed with him. I figured it wasn't worth a fight, and so I asked him why I wasn't even notified of my banning, no PM, no e-mail, nothing. He said, "because it's in my rights to do that". Right.
It's true. I HAD broken forum rules, and under ordinary circumstances I'd understand the banning (although I thought a warning and a deletion of my post might have been a more appropriate response, but hey I'm not a moderator). What irritated me was the fact that THEY used profanity everywhere, and if there's one thing I hate it's a hypocrite.

That's fun and after a few hundred kills, it's a rush.

The GameBanshee site is what first attracted me to these forums, simply because it seemed a lot of fellow gamers had good ideas and the amount of information it holds is spectacular. Now that I've been here for a month or so, the forums are a lot more than that. I've never entered a forum where I didn't get yelled at for talking about what I wanted and using sarcastic little comments for too long. The little groups of veterans in these other forums would cloister themselves and wouldn't even respond to questions or comments posted by myself, a noob in their forum, or if they did respond it was an attack on my opinion. Not everyone here at GB agrees with me, but when they don't they're either friendly about it or respond in such an interesting or off of topic way, that you can't help but laugh. It seems that sarcasm is king at GB and the folks that have been on for years don't seem too biased against newcomers. Wish I'd heard about GB when it started up. These GB forums rock!

ROFL

No cursing, Oozit
Guess what, my bf is a traitor!

He's playing Vampire Bloodlines (or what) and he was looking for a walkthrough and when I told him to visit GB and he said no (saying he'd already found something in Hungarian)

What a shame I had to live to see this! My own bf!

I have noticed that some users in despair turned to none other than the High Admin Himself for help. Since I'm in desperate need, I'll do the same now.
Dear Buck,
could you please create a rule that prevents a user called Oozit replying to my posts?
Thanks,
Brynn

Never weep, oozit. I'm sure Fas has some special place for you in his heart despite the sheer space BS presently occupies.
OT: I think that the maturity of most of the members along with the consistent abiding of forum rules make this forum better than others.

I think it's the moderators not abusing their moderaty powers that contribute to the welfare of the members.
