I see two challenges with a BG3 for whatever company that should make it.
How should the graphics be handeled? My preference would be the classic 2d style, but I know that would never happen. So should they go with the NWN style? I never got a good feeling for those graphics. Ofcourse, pour enough money into it and its bound to feel\look good.

The second is a problem most singleplayer games has today. Piracy. Its the reason we see so few SP games for the PC these days. NWN tried to fix that with modules, but I think it had limited success. I dont think RPGs are suited for online at all. So then there's consoles, witch I think is the most likely alternative.

Im looking forward to how Fallout 3 turns out. I dont think it will have a hard time to be well recieved among fans because of the drastic style change. Then again, maybe they make our jaws drop.

As for possible graphic options, Im looking forward to how Diablo 3 will handle it as they have the same kind of issue there, whenever they decide to make the game.

Considering the inactivity in this thread, I guess the idea died before it even got started.

It's a pity though, BG3 truly would be a sight.. In fact, I do believe that it would be even better if it was made by fans - for fans, as the big guys only would throw in a bunch of special effects and hack and slash, which goes right home in today's youth.

Actually, when you think of it, it is possible. As I understood it, there were mainly three programmers that made Eschalon book I. Considering every volunteer that signed up here, well, we'd have a game in a few years. I'm surely interested by the way :D

Yeah, looks like the enthusiasm was big, but there is no one really driving it forward.
We could start with a project page at least. Ideas, discussions, open letters.
If this would start, I would contribute in whatever way possible. I am a professional tester, and did several other things like community stuff and additional design stuff and content balancing etc.. also know some coding, though I miss practical expertise.
Anyway, the start would be a page, where people rally up, and adress the firms involved by open letters and directly.

Well,

obviously we have the strength in actually making the game.

Come on people, it's a new year, with new possibilities. I can't believe you have given up already. We need someone, or some people, to take leadership over this and actually make something happen. I would if I had the knowledge and time to, but I don't. I'm just 18 afterall.

I usually post on other forums, but this particular subject caught my eye. A couple of things did actually.
1. A lot of people here dont wish to see a BG 3 made. Though if it were suddenly created and available, would you buy it? Or would you sit on your throne and say BG is good just the way it is? Im sure that the creators could come up with a good storyline, I think theyre a little creative.

2. It is true that in April of '04 it was announced that BG3 was in the works. I think it is important to keep this in mind: Theyre basically starting from scratch. When the game was originally shut down, they were nearly done with it. Think of all that work and time. You have to spend just as much time and even more with a new company working on it. It doesn't suprise me that a BG game hasnt been released in a while, a major, some say its biggest game was cancelled right before it was finished. If anything we should hear some sort of news within 18 months. Announcing in April 2004 that they were working on it as well as other games, shows that BG3 was not their only priority, however, starting from scratch, this is a 4-5 year project for how big this game truly is. If BG3 is a reality, it will happen in the next year or so. This is my....educated guess.
