BTW, re the internet thing: Sure, the chance is good you could meet some psycho. But the cahnce of meeting a psycho is also good meeting someone face-to-face. You could meet someone in the traditional way, at school, or a party, or whatever; and they could just as easily misrepresent themselves. Then later on after you've been involved for a while you find out they're married or escaped from some institution or wanted in 14 states.......

There's only a reward for the one who escaped from the institution, DP
Not much? Doubt it. At least the things I'm interested in

Loner: I've had an internet boyfriend, which worked surprisingly well. We 'shared our souls' before I flew out to him. The long distance killed it, but I have no problems with internet dating, as it gives a chance to get to know one before the physical stuff intrudes

@Viv, I agree with you completely
Long distance is tough, but I think it can work if the relationship is super-special, and if both people really want it to work. My own parents did the long-distance thing for a while since my dad was in the navy when they were courting.

Long distance is very possible. While my wife and I were dating, we often made separate trips out of the country - 6 or 7 months at a time. It can be very expensive to visit. It was funny, we noticed a trend. For the first week or two after one of us would return, there would be a period where we would be rather cool to each other, with some snapping or minor arguments. Then things would settle down to how it was before the separation. We soon recognized that we needed this 2-week warming-up period, and not to expect all the bells and whistles of a full-blown relationship right off the bat.
