And look at me now, I'm doing my PhD at a world-leading lab
Don't worry, it's not
that bad
Well done you for getting so far - I'm sure that it took a lot of determination - something I could do with

@Kam: Bristol, that's a very good university, isn't it? I know the guy who's head of the psychology section, he's a really sweet person What does it mean to study Classics? Is it language, history or both?
Classics is a very open subject: It's a mixture of literature studies, language studies, philosophy and history, so basically I have a huge range of things to try out and see which I want to concentrate on. At Bristol, I can also choose to do part of my degree in another department of the University, so one of my modules could be in Computer Science or something like that
It's very flexible.
And yes, Bristol is a very good university, one I would be proud to say I went to
Manchester isn't a place I'd be totally shattered if I had to go to - I have family up there anyway, so at least I'd know people and places

Yes, I'm a great role model...
Spent my teens partying and travelling around, didn't have a proper until I was 27
@Dottie: Sorry
What if I pass it to my hubby then, he's right beside me?

And doesn't it have a mile-long strip of curry houses, or something?
@Dottie do you mean change it to ensure you are a stalker, or to make sure you aren't?

I dont think that changes anything, But I suspect such a hug will be more of a thing between you and him, So go ahead by all means. You can pass on a *kiss* and a *touch* as well.
@Georgi: I will make sure im not.
Unless you specificly asks me to do otherwise that is.

Oh yes it does. The funniest thing, though, is the pseudo-KFCs interspersed on that same strip - gems like Krunchy Fried Chicken and Kansas Fried Chicken. Really, no joke

Thanks Kam, and good to hear it's not so bad for you
I could have done with some determination when I was younger, but it wasn't there, I wanted to do other things. When I eventually decided what I wanted to study and work with, I was very determined though, but by then I had played around enough
I'm very pro that young people should not only study, but live life at it fullest too.
Classics sounds like a good choice, flexibility is so important IMO since one often changes focus of interest over time. My ex-husband was a BA in Classics, he took classic history and Latin, then he ended up as a Linux instructor

I see I forgot "job" in my post, I meant I had no proper job until I was 27 (that's when I started my current job). I didn't start uni until I was 24...but then I took 7.5 years in 5 years, so I regained some "lost time" there. And I started research at my 3rd year, instead of after graduation, which is the normal thing, so I "gained" some time there again. By now, I'm almost ahead of my peer group career-wise
When (and if) I get children, I'll be a horrible mother, I'll probably be too relaxed regarding their future...I'll be more worried if they want to study hard than if they want to party and travel

How nice of you
He sends hugs back to you
What is this I hear about drag ballet? What has happened here when I was away?
Or were you giving Georgi a private performance?

It happened right after you left in the 'Fibble goes to london' thread and its best left forgotten and entirely Bloodstalkers fault.

That doesn't sound like a horrible mother to me...
I'm sure you wouldn't be like that, though. Even if you have had a really good life with not doing any work until 24 or whatever, do you really want your children taking that chance? I'm sure as soon as you hold your baby you will want him/her to have every chance possible, and will be just as great a mother as anyone could be because you don't want to see their life wasted, even if there is a possibility that they could still make it
It sounds to me that far from being a bad mother, you would be a mother your children could talk to about their problems, rather than hiding them from you because they are ashamed that you did better than them.

@Dottie: Thanks, I'll check that out
I thought you'd be above such a thing as a drag ballet, remembering your views of male and female gender roles limiting clothing style too much?
@Kam: The day I have teenage children I might have forgotten about my own teens and believe I wasn't so bad after all
Seriously though, I think I'd like to do what my parents did with me, encourage and support the young person's own choices rather than pushing in certain directions. I have friends who have almost been frozen out from their families because they didn't choose the "right" education or profession according to their families.
Open communication is IMO a key in a good family life, and I really hope I'd do better than my own parents did in this specific area.
