Don't worry, it's not because of you.
The problem is all those people that joined the story, only to drop out and leave the rest of us hanging. :(

Hmm...I see. It looks like the consensus is to let the current story go then.

Well, back to propositions for the next story, then. Since there's been no further input on the topic...what do you guys think about my suggestion for the next story? Yay? Nay? Mixed feelings? Any suggestions of your own? We need some more ideas to throw around.

Then it seems we need an idea to get the story started off, I suppose. I've entertained notions of starting off the story (or at least a brach of it) where Soulforge left off (the part concerned is my first and only post in the thread). It's a starting point for my characters, at least. The drawback is that any other characters would have to be quite skilled to fit with the mold (Soulforge is a continuation of Athkatla II, where the characters were at Throne of Bhaal levels).

Alternatively, I could roleplay a magic weapon that someone finds early in the story. :D I've already thought of some interesting developments that could happen with this...and it allows for accompanying characters of all skill levels.

Whatever characters we use, we need to decide on a device to keep the party together, as it were (I'm assuming this story will center around a band of adventurers, of course). It may seem like I'm overthinking this a bit, but lack of such a device will kill a story before it's even started, as it kind of did with The Shadowed Legacy. Otherwise our characters might just wander off of their own volition (ala Gilthanas in Shadowed Legacy). :p I'm also itching to write again about Gilthanas, but he has a disturbing tendency to spurn social contact, making his non-temporary inclusion in a party...difficult. ;)

Other than their main characters, as the story progresses each person could also contribute to the story by introducing minor characters and villains as well, to flesh out the world so to speak. In a sense, this would distribute the duties of DM among all involved.

Finally...how should we conduct the "public relations" side of the story? How many people do we want to participate? Do we want a lot of input and feedback from non-participants? If "lots" and "yes," we might want to do this in a different forum that attracts more traffic, perhaps Speak Your Mind. If "only a few" and "not really," we should just keep doing what we're doing now. ;)

Who did you contact then?
Aegis, CM, Rail?

Do you want to continue where Soulforge left of or pick your character out of that story and push it into a new story?

It could be a bit strange to introduce two new characters of a ToB level into the story, but it suits me just fine.

...and this may seem strange, but somehow I have the feeling that I want to play an imp or quasit for some reason. :D Problem is their low Challange Raiting (and thus low level). :( Ah well. :)

As I said, it's just one of my ideas, but...

Well, in mind at least, the characters Aerie and Void are inextricably linked to the events that shaped them in the earlier stories. I couldn't just transplant them from Soulforge into a new story without bringing their backgrounds with them. Thus, in the scenario I have in mind, they would start the story where Soulforge left off--they would be searching for Magus. How that would fit into the story as a whole...I don't know. It could be a mere facet of it, or it could be the focus.

I haven't contacted anyone yet. I thought I would just throw the idea out for now as a possible option. Of course, I would have to talk to Aegis first if we're going through with it. However...I have a nagging sense that if we use Soulforge as the basis for the next story that it might not be quite as freeform as we were originally envisioning here. In fact, I already sense the title of DM materializing over my head. :D That's fine with me, I suppose...but it's something to consider, nonetheless.

As for the quasit...well you could have a character with a quasit familiar. ;) And being a familiar to a powerful master, he might have a few exceptional qualities.

And then again, we could go with something else. The magical weapon character idea appeals to me as well. :D And if I could figure out how to keep Gilthanas from wandering off, he might also be a cool character to play. Of course, if we’re not going the way of Soulforge, then playing an imp might not be such a problem.

That said, what do you guys think? I think there’s possibilities either way.

this is hard for me to decide, so i will just go with whatever you guys decide!. :D

(weasled my way out of that easy huh?)

Seriously i think you guys should decide.

I talked to Aegis, and he doesn't mind if we pick up Soulforge. He said he's much too busy to get back to it anytime soon. So I guess the decision's up to Rob, then? Of course, if we go with the Soulforge idea, I'll have to see if the other Athkatla II veterans are interested.

So Rob...what's your decision? :p

Whoa, when became I king?
Lets just see if the other Athkatla II veterans are interested first.
If so, then it's fine by me if it's fine by you.

Ok, I contacted Rail and CM. I should hear back from them soon. From what I remember, Xandax seems to have retired from message board roleplaying, so I decided to leave him alone.

I am up for it. I have some free time in the weekdays now.But do you want us to start off with the characters from Athk. II or new characters?

Whatever you prefer. I'm carrying Aerie and Void over. It would be somewhat easier to get a party together if some of the characters already knew each other, but it's not mandatory. I'll figure something out regardless, I suppose.

Hey...wait a minute. Didn't your character die? :D

Ahh...and just for the record, previous knowledge of Athkatla II won't be required for the upcoming story. I'll do by best to reveal any necessary backstory as the story progesses...the rest can be obtained by asking any returning characters in-story. Of course, if anyone has a burning desire to read up on it...the link's in my signature. :p

I would, however, recommend reading the post in Soulforge I pointed out above, as it sets a starting point for the story.

All these plans being made with Virrilis and Sethin being ignored :p

Magus is correct, I have been a tad too busy to participate in any serious way, but if Soulforge is the basis of the next story, I'll have to come in from time to time and write up the villian that is Sethin. Also, if Rail doesn't show up, somehow has to take control of the stealthy Assassin ;)

...Seems my links broke since I last checked them. They're fixed now, if anyone cares. :p
All these plans being made with Virrilis and Sethin being ignored
Eh? Who? Oh, you mean those minor lackeys of Magus and Lazal. :D Does this mean you expect your posts from Soulforge to be included at the beginning of the thread? :D :p

Actually, in traditional Athkatla series fashion, I was planning to ignore whoever didn't show up. ;) Applied in a more general sense, it's a simple and elegant solution to inconsistent posting, and one I think I'll revive.

Actually I've not ;) - I've simply just been out of the loop when you started this one.

Could be fun to return, although I dunno if I could build much futher on Xandax the "Berserker"-typish warrior .... could try though.... and dig up some of my old posts and notes I have somewhere on my computer.

Might be worth it to start this in a new thread?

@Xandax: I remember you expressed some sort lack of interest in doing another roleplay after we finished Athkatla II and went on to do Northern Shadows. Maybe I remember incorrectly. 'Tis fortunate that I went against my intuition and sent you the PM anyway. But if you are indeed interested, let me be the first to welcome you back. :)

If you feel Xandax the beserker has reached a dead-end, you can always start a new character. Though like I said, it'd be nice to have some members in the party that already know each other. LOL, you actually kept notes on your character? :D Though maybe I'm not one to laugh, as I have full copies of Athkatla II (and other roleplays) on my hard drive, in case Gamebanshee crashes or something. :p

Ah, yes, it would probably be good to start a new thread. Working on it right now.

Maybe- was a long time ago :D

Well - it is not as much as "Xandax" has reach a dead-end, but much is dependend on location of the next "adventure", and the timeframe. So might be easier or better to develop another char, depends on the setting proberly.

Well well, thing really took of.
I'd, naturally, be very interested to join but I'm not sure I understand the concept completely yet.

We controll our own character but we are allowed to use eachothers characters to make it more interesting?
The characters are high level...how high?

Anything else? :)

Anyway, it's good to see all (except Rail) who inspired me to write returning here. Looking forward to it. :)
