@Beldin/Ode-A debate.....in here? :p

Seriously speaking, I would be glad to have a debate now, but I'm a little too sleepy at the moment.Also bear in mind that I've never had any experience with drugs/smoking IRL(had little experience with booze: tasted wine/beer, didn't like the taste of it :p ), I haven't checked out the links yet, and the fact that that advert, although impressionable, was probably not very accurate(I was around 5-6 years old at the time, and the government was having a nationwide anti-drugs campaign )

Read up on it when you're not so tired, and let us know what you think. We can always have a debate in here, where better? In here we have the hot-tub, the pool table, and access to booze and (in Beldin and my case, at least) 'inspiration'. :D
Maybe we'd get some more business too from all the serious types.

**Opens the Fosters and takes a long pull** Thanks mate.

@Ode-You're right, this is the best place to have a debate :) (when things get a little too tense for our liking, we can always chill out with some GIGGLE/black beer/purple beer/Ole/the hot tub :D

Didn't Georgi say not to make the hot-tub a smoke-free zone? :D

OMG :eek: I didn't start a serious conversation in here, did I? :p :D

Actually I don't object all that much - cannabis is nowhere near as bad as cigarettes. I was just playing devil's advocate pointing out that smoking is not necessarily sociable behavior ;)

@Ode I know what you mean about public opinion... I recall our class being shown a video in school about how longterm cannabis use may cause brain damage... ;) Personally, I have never investigated more thoroughly, since I don't really care much :D BTW, why is physical addiction worse than psychological addiction? Surely addiction is addiction...

** returns upstairs and starts preparing the C.C.B., stretches his arms and yawns ** Hmmm... morning all! As far as the debate is concerned, I couldn't dig up some papers about a Newsweek article we once discussed back in college, dealing with legalizing Canabis, but I'll keep looking. From what I remember, one of the cons of using Canabis was, that it was a "gate-way" drug for other more harmfull drugs. One of the pro's was Canabis' medicinal use. Maybe this is something to start with?

You've made a good start on it. ;) :D

And I agree that smoking is not necessarily sociable, but it can be depending on what one smokes and how one behaves afterwards.

Whilst any sort of addiction is obviously to be avoided (he said, posting at SYM :p ), cannabis only causes (and not in the majority of cases, unlike booze and ciggies) psychological addictions as opposed to both physical and psychological addictions. Only a small percentage of people who use cannabis actually get psychologically addicted; can the same be said for cigarettes?

@Eerhardt-Studies claiming cannabis is a 'gateway' drug have only asked users of hard drugs if they have ever tried cannabis. So far there has yet to be any conclusive studies done that show a causal relationship between cannabis and hard drugs, except in those cases where cannabis has been 'laced' with harder drugs.
Speaking for myself, I try and avoid laced cannabis, though I did get caught once (and consequently thought my friend's room was one of those old-fashioned christmas cards and that the rest of the world was a snow-globe). That was a pretty weird night.

Right, cannabis being a 'gateway' drug was on argument voiced by the anti-cannabis lobby in the article. The pro-cannabis lobby said the same thing you just said. Just shows how unfounded some of the arguments against cannabis are. As far as medicinal use is concerned, there are some reservations to smoking cannabis, because of the toxicity of the smoke. Scientists are working on cannabis capsules and other means of cannabis intake. Somehow, I doubt people who use cannabis for other means than medicinal use will switch to capsules, though.

@Eerhardt: Read the links on legalization that I provided - there you can find nearly all the pro and con arguments, sometimes with appropriate links to back them up.. ;) :D I've been through such discussions several times now :) .

@Ode: Hi mate. I've never used "laced" cannabis. How's it like ?

The main advantage of smoking cannabis is that it allows you to regulate your intake, and hence avoid getting 'too stoned', which is actually not a pleasant experience. It's not unpleasant, but it's no fun either and so tends to defeat the purpose. The downside to smoking it is that it still damages your lungs, though the damage can be minimised with ice bongs which cool down the smoke. Cannabis smoke still causes less damage than cigarette soke (due to the abscence of tar and poisonous chemicals found in cigarettes), but it is still inhaling smoke into your lungs.
This can be overcome by the use of modified vaporizers, available from most specialty stores that sell smoking paraphenalia. They cost US$75 and upwards, depending upon the quality you want.
I don't have one, BTW, as they're a mite too expensive for my modest budget.

I've only ever tried laced cannabis once, to my knowledge. Had I known it was laced at the time I probably would have declined. It was laced with a substance called "angel dust", which can, if a sufficient amount is taken, cause hallucinations and permanent brain damage. :(
It was only my second time trying cannabis (my first was a real let-down, I was really tired and didn't have much, so all it did was give me weird dreams and make me lose sensation to my legs), and admittedly the second time was the one that made me enjoy cannabis, but it wasn't (aside from the christmas card sensation and the feeling that the world was a snow-globe) that different from normal. I did have a harder time remembering what people had said (I had to improvise making conversation :o , thankfully no-one else was any better off than me), but I attribute that just as much to the amount I took.

*pops in between classes*

Good day mates! *Intercepts Odie's hands and guzzles his CCB*

Aaaahhh... thanks and sorry about that Odie my man. ;)

Anyways, interesting conversation there. May I suggest that one of you guys open up a thread on this topic. Hopefully the mods will approve of it and since it would somehow be a serious (? :rolleyes: ) topic, it wont be violating any forum rules. ;)

Gotta go, amigos. Class in 5 minutes!

Cheers!

@Eerhardt

Thanks, pal! *SLUURs his C.C.B and wonders very much what it is and what the abbreviation stands for* Yeah, sure, all documents in order. I keep them in my coffin. You better knock first if I'm there, though - accidents have been known to happen. All talk about spiking seems to have made me a bit edgy lately.
