Maybe you should become one of the "mean" people; you'll get a lot more mileage out of the debates that way.

I wonder if you understand what I mean
I belong to many, many political boards and am currently in burn out.
I use 'mean' to be a person on any side of the political fence who uses ad hominem attacks, ignores facts, misrepresents facts all to push forward a very narrow political 'truth' that they adhere to.
Example:
"Ha!" This *misrepresented fact (such as there supposadly being more trees in the united states than before the advent of white settlers)* "proves that you environazi's have been purposely lying to push your commie agenda on american citizens!"
Grrrr....full of giant unsupported leaps, half truths, blatant insults and mass generalizations. Even if you argue with the facts, it makes no difference. You are a commie traitor or a republic-rat or whatever pet name they like to call you.
It doesn't happen on SYM at all in that way. But, I see some people putting time and energy into a rationally thought out debate to have the other party barely bother arguing, because they are 'right' after all...
So, would I want to join them? No, I think I'll just listen to people debate and learn what I can.

Fable my friend, you know you're always welcome in our humble mobile party thread, and all drinks are of course on the house. All we ask in return is the pleasure of your conversation.

Fable: *hug* I am READING those debates, but not able to contribute. I'm very frustrated and confused about the current situation. My fiancee told me that I'm crazy because I'm worried about Bush invading Iraq. To him it is a simple case of a mad man 'in the future probably getting nuclear weapons' to 'in the future' use against us and we should strike first. I just think there are so many other nations that also are led by mad men who HAVE nuclear weapons... I just wonder if we are doing things for the right reasons... And I dont' think I'm insane about this To find an example of other countries we also should be worried about, I started babbling about the killing of those students protesting for Democracy in China and couldn't remember the names so of course I must not know what I'm talking about.
Anyway, sorry for that rant
*Completely unjustified hug*
You can always contribute in debates, everyone's opinions count, and as I've said before your (I suspect quite insightful) perspective would be welcome in many threads. If you're insane about this, then so is half of GB, and most of the people I talk to in real life too. For the record, I think the example you were after was Tiananmen Square.
No worries about ranting, where better to rant than a tavern thread?

Out of curiousity, why don't you frame them or something? Far more practical than having them loose, and you may get less objections from the SO that way too.

I did. It's about as I feared. I don't do well in those types of discussions because I'm always wanting to either flirt or tease or get angry at the 'mean people'
You can tease people, get angry at the 'mean' (I think narrow-minded is a better term) people, and get involved in the debate all at the same time, you know.
About the only downside to getting involved in serious threads (IMO) is that it blows any cover personas you may have established, however poorly (ie. an irresponsible pothead, amongst others
).

drops in ...
Hm, haven't been posting here for quite some time ... hello to all
So this is where the Rolling Thunder now lurks.
What I actually wanted to say is that I found out that Ode (yes, you, don't loock so innocent
) doesn't actually live in Australie ... he's got a shop in Camden Town, London!
I swear it, I saw it with my own eyes! It's right there, where they sell four person alien head bongs ... Hmm, I should have brought back one of those, it would fit right in here.
Too bad that I don't have the picture here today as I lent them to a friend.
I'll post it as soon as I have it back.

I've been busy visiting London, playing D&D and playing NWN online.
Ah! See, I knew it!
Oh, yes, and so, when I change my location to Timbouktu (or however that is spelled) do I suddenly live there? Hm ... interesting, that could be an interesting means of travel ...
Drink? What, are you trying to distract me?
Hmm ... smells like dinner ... off to eat.

Sounds like fun.
And may I say you were just as lovely in person as I was expecting?
Erm, not that I was there or anything...
You'd save money on airfares, that's for sure.
I would never try to distract you, dearest Mysty. Enjoy your dinner.

Laphroaig 10 Year Old is an all-malt Scotch Whisky from the remote island of Islay in the Western Isles of Scotland. Laphroaig, pronounced "La-froyg", is a Gaelic word meaning "the beautiful hollow by the broad bay". In making Laphroaig, malted barley is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat, found only on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavour. Laphroaig is best savoured neat, or with a little cool water. Roll it around on your tongue. Release the pungent, earthy aroma of blue peat smoke, the sweet nuttiness of the barley, the delicate heathery perfume of Islay's streams. It is as unique as the island itself
Beldin occasionally has a glass of the stuff and I found it, when reading through a single-malt whiskey guide
** takes another drink from his glass of Laphroaig ** Want a glass of it too?
