KotOR III: It is your... destiny!
I have just started KotOR II, so I haven't read this thread, and I don't know how much of this has already been done, but I would love to see these features in KotOR III. Man, the ideas are just flooding out...
Ideas for KotOR III
Gameplay
- Allow more than 20 character levels. Have adaptive enemies so stronger PC/NPCs means more/stronger enemies
- Have many more unique items, feats and force powers, only some of which will (randomly) appear in a game
- Each planet/environment has a couple of randomly generated "dungeons" which can give one or a few of these unique items/feats/force powers
- Have force components -- rare items with special force energy which make certain force powers possible. Components are consumed when the force power is cast. This opens up quests for components and the possibility for more powerful force powers.
- Have Droid powers -- like Force powers, only less powerful, and with a more technology-based theme. This could just be unique and powerful droid attachments, or it could be special programs you seek out and download. See below...
- Ability to direct a character to move to a specific spot
- Ability to throw a grenade to a specific spot on the ground
- Ability to put my own comments on a map
- Give vertical camera movement more inertia so it's not so jerky
- Add more hidden stuff - hard to find mini caves, planets, space stations
- Have a larger pool of character appearances (use face randomizer?). it's annoying to see the same faces over and over
- Have NPCs interact with dialogue, environment and each other more
- "Wow look at this place!"
- "(This machine sounds like my grandmother)"
- "Back here again?"
- "Back off or I'll sick HK on you... Get him, HK!" "Self Query: Do I take commands from a meatbag who is not my master? Answer: Delightfully, no."
- Add chaotic vs lawful dimension to alignment and associated abilities & force powers
- Have more quests available only to certain alignments
- Have quests only available to certain PC classes
- Have quests with multiple endings and multiple spin-off quests available *based on those endings* - more replayability!
- Have the ability to control speeders/small space ships/war machines in battle
- Have spell tweaks such as school specialization or chaos magic which affects outcome/strength/duration/range/etc. of force spells
- Have similar tweaks for droid powers
- Have side quests to learn/research new Jedi powers or to grant other NPCs special feats or to gain unique items
- Have more moral dilemmas - sacrifice one person to save another, and the survivor stays with you, so your choice has a big impact on the game, etc.
- Have vehicles that PC can create and drive and customize (thrusters/blasters/cloaking/etc). Better repair = better vehicle
NPCs
- Someone who gives everyone nicknames
- Character with the sarcasm of Leia in Episode IV (i.e. "You're braver than I thought")
- Impulsive teenager who is always getting into trouble (trapped, jail, insulting important contacts, etc.) Takes work for PC to properly guide him or her (to LS or DS Upredictability could be funny and fun.
- Moody - NPC whose mood changes depending on PC's alignment or actions or time of day, etc. NPCs abilities change with mood. PC with persuasion might be able to control it better.
- Doppleganger - someone who can take on the appearance of another humanoid
- Jedi droid - a unique droid which has somehow found a way to command the force. Quest answers how this droid came to be.
Quests
- Alone without equipment against dozens of war machines. Find weapons, find way to trap/disable/sneak into a war machine, hijack & fight back against all the other machines
- Protect 3-5 Jedi children against a large threat, like a Rancor. LS: ask them to stay close, tell them to hide under various things, destroy distractions which lure them into danger, etc. Or for DS, let one lure the beast so PC can escape
- Run into a situation where PC needs to suggest/allow one light-side Jedi NPC (and good friend) to be struck down. In spirit form, this NPC has more powers to help the party such as viewing creatures in next room, boosting party, teleporting/telekinesing objects?
- Prequal: Transport a Jedi couple destined to change the balance of the force. One turns to the dark side, and PC ends up with the other: Offspring is Revan
- PC has to use a utility cable and swing from one platform to another while carrying another NPC. Might be funny with a man rescuing another man
- Stuck in a room with no weapons or stealth and way too many bad guys. Program a series of distractions and traps to move enemies away from where you want to go
- Infiltrating an enemy camp, and one NPC occasionally starts to act on their own in disturbing ways. Then the other NPC starts to do the same. At a critical point, PC discovers video showing real NPCs somewhere else trapped and in danger... These NPCs are imposters perhaps with lethal weapons or vital quest items! Bluff way out of NPC trap, attack them directly, or set a trap for them before they know the PC knows?
- Find parts and a ship factory to construct a speeder or small ship or teleporter to escape a ship sinking into a (toxic?) ocean. With good skill, speeder/ship can go under water or up into the air to discover more goodies.
- Up against a strange creature which multiplies when you attack it. Find a way to kill creatures before getting overwhelmed.
- Small village is under attack and in flames, and Jedi can give villagers commands to send out scouts or put out fires or fortify walls or prepare grenades at this wall, etc. Enemy response changes depending on current weakness of village. Right combination of commands and knowing who PC should attack gets everyone through. Plenty of DS opportunities here too.
- Similarly, enemy is fortified with weapons, droids, turrets, Dark Jedi, etc and PC and NPCs go into solo mode to command 1-3 small squads of soldiers to carry out commands like setting mines, attacking turrets, distracting troops while one PC/NPC moves in for the kill or infiltrates. Right combination of commands gets party through defenses.
- At some point when party is less than 3, an "enemy" NPC claims to be defecting and has vital secrets to deliver to Jedi council. Should he or she join party? Is it for real or a trick? Perhaps outcome is random? Perhaps PC persuasion can influence outcome? Perhaps NPC appears to be giving secrets and playing along and only later sets a trap for Jedi...
Items
- A posessed light saber with attitude and special abilities to unlock with the right owner and dialogue
- Items which grant extra attack, one force power, enhance something about a force power (duration, # targets, etc.)
- Hoverboard (floating skateboard) for faster movement, floating over water, etc.
- Light saber randomly and temporarily steals a feat/Jedi power from struck enemy - PC has to decide whom to attack
- Droid multiplug adapter which holds two special attack items, so one attack might cause a shock AND flame throwing. You could have similar adapters for other slots too.
- Items which gain new abilities over time
Settings
- Cliff face - find a way to attack on the wall, or climb to small ledges when enemies approach. Perhaps Jedi telekinesis allows a player to jump out and land again on another ledge...
- Mine shafts - raise and lower elevators to get to different levels
- Floating platform - don jet packs and fight in 3D among the clouds. Perhaps player needs to push a button to fire vertical thrusters against gravity?
- Swimming - ability to go underwater for short distances, shooting is easier than swordfighting...
Minigame
- Think of the chess-like creature game R2 played with Chewbacca in Episode IV. Buy, create, customize mini-creatures to battle others.
Feats
- Jump Back - ability to jump backwards out of close combat
- Melee Disarm - chance of disarming enemy blade/blaster
Force Powers
- Telekinesis - ability to throw items at opponent, ability to grab things out of reach
- Force Disarm - chance to grab enemy weapon and bring to PC's hand
- Command corpse - DS ability to raise up a corpse to attack foes
- Commune with dead - LS ability to converse with dead & see visions of what took place there in the past...
- Disguise - take on the physical appearance of another character - lots of quest possibilities here
- Reflection - bounce force attacks back on the attacker w/ save
- Acrobatics - ability to jump from one platform to another - opens up interesting platform/lever puzzles, etc.
- Copy power - ability to copy a Jedi's power for a short time
- Teleport object - ability to grab an item from the next room, or place a mine in the next room, etc.
- Polymorph - ability to turn into a beast for attacking or disguise
- Explode object - target object near enemy and cause it to explode. some items do more damage than others.
- Force Trigger - delay the effect of a force power until the right trigger condition is met - enemy near, low HP, etc.
Droid Powers
- Control Droid - ability to "possess" another droid and cause it to attack enemies, etc.
- Droid Persuade - ability to persuade another droid in dialogue
- Targeting Bug - causes enemy droid to attack self or others randomly
- Virus - infects one droid, spreads to others... perhaps slow and 100% contagious, or quick like chain lightning
- Droid Bomb - causes droid to seek out a clump of enemies and explode
- Actuator Malfunction - causes droid to drop everything it has
I could do this all day... Hm. Maybe I should consider a career change? ;-)
