"We remain critically short of blood plasma and various organs," says Kameleon One hospital administrator Hack Love. "Especially hearts. A good heart is hard to find. But if we were allowed to pay for donations, we'd get more of them and could save more lives. Plus the donor takes home a few hundred young boys in compensation. Unless it's a post-mortem donation, of course. In that case we'd pay the family."

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Ha-HA! Tropicalis has been in the top 3 the last 3 polls, and we break the top spot this time. We are religiously sound, safe, and environmentally strong. Go Tropicalis!

And congrats, Kayland, maybe your nation will amount to something beyond a landfill after all. ;) There is hope gleaming within the land of Kayland! However, I see the Fablicians qualify for yet another chart. Well done. We seem to be constant visitors to the top 10...the people who pick who goes into the UN must have jipped us. ;)
“Caw, Caw!” The call of the wild calls you. Are you listening? Do you dare challenge their power? Do you dare invade? Nature will always triumph in the end.

Funny should say that, since this subject recently came up again...

The Issue
Prospecting company Nukes4U has uncovered a large uranium deposit in Kayland's south-west.

The Debate
1. "This is terrific find!" claims Nukes4U CEO Clint Hamilton. "It will provide an enormous stimulus to our economy and create thousands of new jobs. It's win-win! All we need from the government is permission to bulldoze the rainforest that's on top of the deposit."

2. "You've got to be kidding," says Green politician Beth Licorish. "This rainforest is thousands of years old! This country needs more environmental protection, not less. And to destroy the environment in order to mine uranium that then goes into nuclear bombs--well, that really sticks in my craw."

3. "There's no need for an either-or decision," says the government's Minister for Mining, Clear-Felling, and the Environment. "We can preserve most of the rainforest and allow mining of a small part. After all, think of all the good that the money from this uranium deposit can bring to Kayland."

The Government Position
Right now I'm leaning towards option #3 (whereas I went with #1 the first time around). :)

It's a damned conspiracy! If only Kayland could invade we could rectify this cruel injustice. Image

Dave-rovia checked in at #33 (of 40). So who has a state religion? Ours is The Church of Shatnerology which may explain the booming sales of corsets and the lack of church attendence. Of course, our state-run ShatnerTV station shows round the clock marathons of Star Trek: The Original Series, T.J. Hooker and Kingdom of the Spiders so those who do not attend church can bask in the glory of the Almighty Bill.

Important Announcement Thing

as reigonal delegate, I have the ability to write a world factbook entry for our reigon. I have plenty ideas, but I'd rather be slightly democratic about this, so...

ideas, people?

EDIT- until someone has a better idea, a modified version of the A-Team intro will serve as the reigonal description :)

The Issue
Some people say Kayland's policy on free speech has gone too far.

The Debate
1. "These days, anyone says whatever they want with no regard to what kind of dribble is coming out of their mouths!" says angry commuter Jazz Love. "It's gone too far. We should go back to the good old days, when if someone started talking garbage, we'd smack them one."

2. "We need more free speech, not less," argues civil rights campaigner Fleur Jefferson. "Free speech allows ideas to be explored, challenged, and discussed in a productive, open forum. It teaches our kids to be critical thinkers. And dirty words, of course, but that's just the price you pay."

3. "The right to free speech is a central tenet of our system of democracy," says religious leader Chastity Broadside. "But surely the right to not have your religious beliefs mocked by others is worth something, too? We mustn't put up with intolerance!"

The Government Position
Undecided at the moment. The idea to slap someone whenever they say something I don't like is tempting though...

update

The Free Land of Thedruidgrove

"Freedom, peace and charity"

UN Category: Scandinavian Liberal Paradise

Civil Rights: Superb
Economy: Reasonable
Political Freedoms: Average
Location: SYM

The Free Land of Thedruidgrove is a very large, devout nation, remarkable for its absence of drug laws. Its compassionate population of 56 million enjoy extensive civil rights and enjoy a level social equality free of the usual accompanying government corruption.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked morass -- juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Education, and Public Transport. The average income tax rate is 37%, but much higher for the wealthy. A tiny private sector is dominated by the Soda Sales industry.

The government awards prizes to television shows featuring stereotype-breaking minority roles, the government attempting to revitalize a gutted private sector, citizens can be frequently spotted going about their business stark naked, and euthanasia is legal. Crime is totally unknown. Thedruidgrove's national animal is the stag, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the barter.

SYM
World Factbook Entry: "In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These people promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as leaders of a variety of nations. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the SYMians."

I see I'm a delegate again.

Any suggestions for above World Factbook entry?

The Disputed Territories of Zeddicus
"Keep rollin' rollin' rollin' rollin'"

UN Category: Father Knows Best State
Civil Rights: Very Good
Economy: Strong
Political Freedoms: Few

Location: SYM
The Disputed Territories of Zeddicus is a large, devout nation, notable for its complete lack of prisons. Its compassionate, hard-working, cynical population of 40 million are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

The medium-sized government juggles the competing demands of Religion & Spirituality, Defence, and Social Equality. The average income tax rate is 7%. A healthy private sector is led by the Soda Sales industry, followed by Trout Farming and Book Publishing.

Military spending is on the increase, Zeddicus's children are widely acknowledged as the most foul-mouthed in the region, voting is compulsory, and scientists regularly clone human beings for research purposes. Crime is a problem, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Zeddicus's national animal is the zee, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the zen.

Kayland's continuing mutations...

Image
The Rogue Nation of Kayland
"Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati"

UN Category: Liberal Democratic Socialists
Civil Rights: Some Economy: Good Political Freedoms: Widely Abused

Location: SYM
The Rogue Nation of Kayland is a very large, safe nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 98 million love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and Law & Order. The average income tax rate is 48%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Beef-Based Agriculture and Book Publishing.

Nudity is frowned upon, the mining industry is making inroads into environmentally sensitive areas, it is a crime to offend someone's religious beliefs, and college students make ends meet by selling their kidneys. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Kayland's national animal is the frog, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the token.
