I think you mean "sour grapes" loser, unless, of course, you're referring to players from Beijing. In which case, they could accurately be described as sweet and sour losers.
I wasn't referring to players from Beijing so and as far as I know there is no sweat and sour pizza...

It hurts me to be called a sour loser, as actually (believe it or
not) I'm one of those who reacted more "positively" here...
(I'm already thinking about the Europeans and the next World Cup)
Oh yes, we're a mad populace!! :D
To give you a meter, RAI (italian national television) declared
that they're considering to asl FIFA to be refunded of something like
80 millions dollars, 'cause they say Italy should be yet in game
and people should watch the matches!!!!
Of course, this is too much even for me! :D
But it explains something that I'm telling from AGES:
there are money around football, and if they want to avoid trouble
(or if you prefer so, if they want to shut up people like us ;) )
they have to change the sistem referee + linesmen.
They have to use cameras, lasers, all you want. Technology is no
more a problem.

And of course, when a player dives, he should be banned from the
tournament.
Totti I think dived in the past yes, but just for the sake of discussion,
not this time.
The Korean player made a regular intervent, hitting the ball.
But he also hit Totti on the leg, and he fell, maybe he may have had
a "stylish" fall, but, come on!
The referee should have simply pass by the whole thing. Espulsion was
too much, and FIFA itself condamned Moreno about this...
Rivaldo DID dive!! Completely simulated the contact.

About Gaucci: as I said, Gaucci is a little mad.
But, wait a minute! He's the OWNER of a team.
If he doesn't like a player, he can sell him. Where's the abuse??
To tell you the truth, Ahn was really irritating the day BEFORE
the match.
Among other things he ARROGANTLY said that italian defenders were
OLD and SLOW and that he SURELY would make a goal (which turned out true).
Hey, a player should have RESPECT for other players, especially if they're older
and at the end of their career (like Maldini).
He's been very offensive.
And Gaucci has the right to decide what elements keep in his team, in
the end.

Naturally Gaucci can do what ever he likes with his team. Doesn't make it any less wrong, though. Ahn may have an attitude problem, but he's not abusing his authority. Besides, Gaucci should be used to it. The "respectful" comments between italian teams are reknown, such as the long term rivalry between Roma and Juventus. Or is it that Ahn isn't Italian, so he doesn't have a right to criticise? In that case, Gaucci is an even bigger biggot. This smells like:
"You're from a poor country so you should be happy with what you get and be quiet - or else!"
"Yes, masa".

It brings up an interesting issue regarding international accountability.

I think most refs who watch certain people dive and play dirty in the world cup will then mark them out later on in the league competitions.

Littiz! I wasn't calling you a sour loser. Well not you in particular... no offense but the reactions in Italy seem to be a bit out of proportion.
I believe Totti got that yellow card because he has a reputation for diving and the referee was warned. No doubt he has received more penalties he shouldn't have had than he has recieved warnings he shouldn't have had. Time caught up with him this time.
I think technology should be used to help referees but I just dont see how you can aid them in the offside decision without delaying the game alot.

No, he was calling you a Chinese pizza.

Which is good. If there's one thing I really dislike in football, it's all the theatrics to trick the ref. Could really make me loose interest.

I watched the game at a neutral stance. Several things occurred to me:

1) I predicted that Italy would win, simply because the team is better - no arguing. But when they switched to boring defense after scoring a goal, I wasn't that certain. And guess what, Korea won.

2) Did you see the degree of violence the Italian guys played with? Shirt pulling, intentional late tackles, slaps, etc. Everybody in the World Cup does that, but the Italians were extreme.

3) Italy expects to win. Had they lost to a soccer power like Brazil or Argentina, they wouldn't have as much grudge over the defeat. But Korea is an underdog and the Italians are outraged at the fact. You guys are very arrogant.

Speaking of arrogance - I've read that the Italian goalie displayed his middle finger at the camera in the airport. The Italian team also wrecked the furniture in the hotel they were staying and left towels soaked with urine. Now that's just pathetic, don't you think?

4) The ref's decision to hand out the red card. The replay clearly showed there was no contact between the players yet a "Hollywood action" was staged. I agree the ref was harsh that he got a yellow card. The offside call was clearly onside as well, although it was extremely narrow.

5) About Perugia sacking Ahn. It is interesting that the chairman accounced it hours after the game. He gets ousted because he scored for his country? What kind of crap is that? If Ahn didn't score, he would have been welcome back in Italy because he missed the penalty kick for Korea. And, by getting kicked out, I think Ahn got a lot of attention - exactly what he needs to get a contract with another league.

Overall, if Italy played with spirit, I have no doubt it would have won. Vierdi had many chances but he scored only once, and what's worse, the Italian team decided to defend the lead the entire time, which altogether was distasteful.

Italians are their own worst enemies. They failed to communicate in a civilized way, hurling insults at Ahn and claiming a conspiracy. As a result, they're the laughing stock of the world right now. Me, I think Italians need to chill.

England - Brazil, the match many of us have waited for!

England took a relatively early lead after a surprising goal by Owen, after a mistake from a Brazilian defender. Both teams played well in the first half, and Brazil's equilizer scored by Rivaldo after a marvellous run from Ronaldinhio, was well deserved.

In the second half, Ronaldinhio scored on a free kick, the Swedish commentators blamed poor Seaman for not being alert enough, but I thought it looked like a very good shoot and also surprising. After the 1-2 goal, the English attacked and managed to create quite a pressure on Brazil. Then the thing that spoiled the game happened: Ronaldinhio got a red card for stepping on Mills' foot. Not in a 100 years that was a red card, possibly a yellow, but R was clearly going for the ball, and he didn't even step hard on Mills' foot. Anyway, the English actually seemed to be more disturbed than Brazil by this. England did not at all manage to reach their full potential, they looked lame and slow and Brazil defended well. 2-1 to Brazil, and England is out of this years world cup. Better luck next time, the team is young and set for 2006.
Congrats to Brazil!

Grrr! Ronaldinho gets sent off for what should have been a warning, so the referee feels a bit guilty and lets Rivaldo get away with playing out the entire last act of Hamlet - doing all the characters himself! If anyone should be sent off, it's Rivaldo!

That mexican ref is a complete idiot - I dont think we will be seing him again.

Brazil deserved to win - especially after two briliant goals and one quite luckie one from england.

@Raistlin: :D I usually write in black when I post directly after a match, since not everybody might watch the game live. Swedish TV for instance, only shows the Senegal-Turkey game 6 hours later tomorrow - I don't know why, the other quarterfinals are broadcasted live.

Again Roberto Carlos shows what a great player he is, supreme really. Rivaldo should really stop his acting, it really looks stupid. And Ronaldinho getting send off is even more stupid, maybe a a reckless tackle but not a red card but there you go. Is there a better team at killing time than Brazil? They still kept possession. England didn't impress me today but they'll be back, like someone said, they are still young. Except Seaman who probably didn't want to end his international career like this...too bad.
Well all my predictions have gone wrong now so I am not going to predict anything now.

just a note on poor italy.

I think that they have been desperatly unlucky with a number of genuine goals disallowed etc.

It seems that the Italian players have not responded with grace but I can almost understand. I at times wonderd whether the ref had been bribed. Some absolutly dreadful refing this WC.

Real shame. :(

So did Ronaldinho mean to score or was it meant to be a cross? It looked alot like the goal Real Zaragoza scored against Arsenal in a cup winners cup final... Seaman in goal then aswell.
I dont think he meant it.

From all the games in WC, i lost this one  from falling asleep. Hopefully they will show the game after Germany's one. From a few articles i've red and from here it sounds like a good game. I'll sure take a look at Ronaldinio's suspention. Are they serious? Ronaldinio could not harm a fly, the boy just smiles and plays great football.

Either way it was poor goaltending from Seaman - such a shot must not go in :)
He was not terrible far out of the goal - he just didn't jump after the ball

But I don't know - looks like a shot on goal, but might be the ball just didn't turn enough to be a pass infront of the goal :)

Ronaldinos red card marks another fun time at the WC - them refs must feel left out or something - wierd calls a lot of the time.

The red card was definately harsh . I think the referee misjudged the incidence ..

One of the stars of the tournament will not play in semi-finals . That's a big loss for the WC audience .. (unlike Italy's elimination is no loss to them) ;)
