30 points is more than enough to make me give up rolling (and that's saying something!) and even more than i'd hoped for.

Me too! I think that you can really make a powerful guy/girl with all of those points.

DICE ROLLING IS FOR CHEATERS!!!

Oh btw not that I advocate cheating but it wasn't hard for me to find a Pool of Radiance "editor" to make my charecters more "real"

23 in str.
25 in dex.

you know, all the usual stuff.

A rather extreme example dchaples, but I share your sentiments. Let's go for equality among players. Go point buy! Image

Listen to Kayless, ladies and gents, piracy is bad. We don't want to discuss illegal activities or sites here. :)

Just keeping a watchful eye. I can't be in two places in once and I've spent a lot of time in SYM recently. :D

You can't be in two places at once? *Gasp* You Mods are mortal after all? I’m so disillusioned. Image Image

Ah but I *can* burp, fart and sneeze at the same time and live to tell the tale. That makes me more powerful than superman (and I have the underpants to prove it). :)

I thought that if you did all three at the exact same time, your body would implode! At least that's what I was always told.... :p

Grunt is just the exception to the rule, Gwally. :D :)

I have much to learn about the point buy system. read a little last night on the official site and it sounds interesting.

Due to my disappointment with dungeon siege (B-O-R-I-N-G), a black isle email I received twisted my arm and forced me to order the collectors edition. Looks like I'll be playing IWD2. I'm a bit stubborn to learn a new rules system, but you really can't go wrong with the infinity engine.

Hmmm I've just heard there have been some changes made to IWD2, as dictated by WotC. Among these is the point buy. It is now only 16 points, but all your stats start at ten (not counting racial modifiers) and you can subtract from them if you want (i.e. lowering your INT in order to have a dumb but physically powerful fighter). There have been some other changes made as well (no more Monty Cook Ranger, etc.). I'm sure how I feel about this...

essentially, they just cut the point buy by 2 points. I hate being robbed....   !

Yeah, me too. But being able to lower your stats now almost makes up for it. Meet Org the Fighter:
Str 18, Dex 16 Con 18 Int 6 Wis 8 Cha 10. "Grrr, me so strong!"

I just thought I'd chime in on this one. I'm a little late because I just started playing IWD2 so sorry. At first I was a little wary of playing 3rd edition rules but I'm finding now that I don't mind them. Like everyone is saying in 2nd ed. if you don't have 16+ stats you basically get nothing. I like how bonuses start earlier. The only problem I have is that the stat ranges are broader (they go up to 35 or something?) and you don't get to increase them enough. One point every 4 levels is not too much. You basically need to concentrate on increasing one stat if you want to get to any decent levels. You may be lucky to increase a non-primary stat up one level if you feel like sacrificing the ability point.

My other gripe is with favored classes but that's for another topic.

I suppose that in IWD II max stat is 30 (mod +10) like in NWN
( but temporary increaseable above 30)
