If you want to see an example of fear of losing absolute power corrupting someone, further at least, just check out Zimbabwe (sp)
Democracy is, for all intents and purpose, the only kind of political system that has worked.
Or thats what some people say. I disagree. The USSR had a communist system going quite well, until the Americans managed to topple it with their massive spending.
America is not a democracy, seeing as how there are only 2 parties that actually have a CHANCE in winning. Canada at least has a good half dozen parties with a good shot at power, and many more in local districts. The US has basically 2 choices, the only 2 that have enough corporate backing to contend against each other. Since they are both fueled by Capitalism, where does that leave other social and political ideologies hmm?
The Feudal system has had some great successes. If it were put into effect with todays level of technology and standard of living, it could quite possibly work, so long as men and women of character filled the upper levels of power.
Now, I believe firmly in the principles of Anarchism, a lack of hierarchy, equality, and community. I just don't believe in its practicality.
People are greedy, selfish and manipulative as the norm. There are people out there who are the opposite, but rarely do they see power. Even W. Churchill, one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century, was quite manipulative from time to time.
