That reminds me of another cover I liked - Metallica once took the opportunity in the US MTV awards show (broadcasted live all over the world), and played a cover of Anti-Nowhere league's "So what". Anti-Nowhere league was a British punk/new wave band, and the lyrics of "So what" certainly gave the producers grey hair since it couldn't be beep out :D
I never really liked Metallica. But i used to LOVE Anti-Nowhere League... That must be a plus in my book for Metallica.

ARGHH. i have just now, seen (on MTV) this video with some woman that made a cover of "Like a prayer".. and it's ecsactly the same as Madonna's only with some dance sounds. That was horrible!!!!
Not that Madonna is much better, the cover she made of (what is it called??) the day the music died!!?. is equally horrible!

Yep, 8th December, sweetie. I guess, seeing as you're new, and you knew the Lizard King and my own birthday, that we can forgive your treasonous slander of the Doors.

BTW, I'm going to start doing the AbFab thing of calling select people (known AbFab fans at least) sweetie, when I remember, that is.
Well you must admit, that i knew SOMETHING about Jim! right?!?!
and sweetie... you can call me sweetie anytime...
It's nice to be forgiven for my lack of music taste! :D

Like a prayer is a damn good song to listen to...plus the video adds a couple of more pluses. My polish friend said it is a hymm/gospel song is this true? If so man did she pervert it!

@ Ode

Drats I missed your old avatar.

As for bad covers, I've got nothing against rap. I was even a fan of it at one point, but Puff Daddy, P.Diddy or whatever he wants to call himself these days.

Did get a few raised eyebrows from me for a few of his covers. The most notable being his rendition of Kashmir, took the soul right out of it IMO.

Nah, I think you caught it okay. It was the twinkie-smoking Yoda one. I think it's still floating around on the many faces of Kayless thread.

I don't like Metallica either, they seem to be nice guys, but their music has too little variation for my taste - I actually sleep very well to Metallica because of the (IMO) relaxing "curtain of sound" they create. Anti-Nowhere League on the other hand, they were funny :D

Slayer : Hand of Doom, Born to be wild
Pantera : Electric Funeral, Planet Caravan

Mettallica : ALL there covers are better than there own songs
Marilyn Manson : Highway to hell

Stevie Ray Vaughan : Superstition, Manic depression, Vodoo child
Sepultura : Smoke on the water
Ozzy Osbourne / Dweezil Zappa : Stayin Alive

And about a million others + How many good Remix' etc have there been?

Covers are just like any other music, some bad.. some crap,

Cannea say all covers are bad jus couse one two 99.9% are... GOtta give the good ones a shot,

Finding Covers is my favourite way of finding songs...

Consider this, if on a file sever I type cover, im gonna get some good stuff, couse if it wasnt good, who would cover it? SO I find what I like then find the original and WA-Hey, with a bit of luck.. I find a whole dang new band

Not of course that we discuss file servers ;) After all "Questions or ideas that deal with illegal activities" is breaking the forum rules :)

The problem i find is that the covers are so poorly implemented, if they bring something new to a track then i am quite happy for them to exist, like Grace by Jeff Buckley, it has three covers on it but the album is one of my all time favourites. He took unkown songs and covered them and improved on them with his own style.

Will Young however took a famous song to everyone and mauled it, i mean light my fire! who doesn't know that song? I suppose it could have been worse, he could have covered "The End"

No, that would have been like whichever-band-it-was that did a cover of Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall. Namely, almost sacriligious.
