Waverly offers the forum a final cent and a half…

How silly. I can insult someone with allowable words (eg. Fable, you are an jumentous adelphirexiate) and not get in trouble, but the sophomoric use of expletitives is bannable. Like the peculiar notion that the human body is somehow obscene, I’ve never understood the aversion to certain words without regard to their message. Particularly since much more hateful and dangerous concepts can be conveyed with entirely ordinary terms. Hell, I just called Fable a nephew-buggerer who smells of horse urine and the filter didn’t flinch.

I also find:
Additionally, I was told earlier this weekend that if I allowed members such as Gruntboy to continue slinging insults that certain members would leave the forum.
to be bowing to petty coercion. If, like dear little Tybaltus (who cites secret conversations with mystery posters as the basis for thinking Gruntboy has gone too far), a member objects to a something that is said, there are more adult and constructive approaches than threatening Buck.

Gruntboy, take good care, and drop me an email occasionally. You can even swear at me if you can’t think of anything nice to say!

I didn't see this until now...and I'm sad to see Grunt go :(

Two things I wish to say in this thread:

@Grunt: I hope you see this, and I hope I will see you IRL some time in London for a chat...you and I have many disagreements about politics, but you know, I was always convinced that I would really like you IRL and that we could have a row about some specific political issue where our opinions where opposite, and then slap each other on the back and happily chat about something else...I might be wrong since I don't know you, but I always had the feeling that you are a person who could differ between topic and person. I hope I will have the opportunity to find out one day!

@Buck: My honest opinion is that no member should be differently treated from another, regardless of whether that member is a Moderator, a old timer, or a totally new user...that goes for myself as well. I trust your judgement since I know you hate banning members, and I imagine it must be quite sad for you to ban someone who is an original member and who has done a lot for the board...

Later grunty - I really enjoyed your posts. With your departure the political divide here just got bigger - if the political spectrum of the SYM board could be equated to a see-saw - then I am now airborne...

Good luck to you and safe travels. :)

Yeah, that's another approach. One is going out all guns blazing, the other as subtle as they come.

Not one person here is perfect, most of us speak our minds, some communicate on a more eloquent level than others, some on a more honest level than others. The bottom line is, if we smile nicely, phrase ourselves protectively, impress the right crowds and lick the right arses we can all be blue eyed. But moderators should not be considered godlike.

Sad days. I have met some wonderful people here.

Goodnight, guys, take care of yourselves.

I say we kidnap those that have left the board and force them to post on SYM.

On a more serious note, cheer up folks. It can't get much worse than this, so lets just ride this sucker out. No matter how many people have fallen, there are still troops left. If I could think of something funny on the matter, I would say it, but I'm no comedian. So Bloodstalker or Waverly better post something more cheerful or I'll be forced to bombard you all with gratituous William Shatner photos.
