Fellow Mac user here: None of those links seem to go anywhere (outdated pages), any suggestions? I would love to try a mod if there are any. Also, do you know of any sites I could go to help with installation of a mod? Thanks in advance, any help is much appreciated. I really, really enjoy the BG series of games and some new twists would make it even more interesting.

Flounder, you're posting your request under a thread marked "Where next?" This is the problem, I think, with piggybacking questions and requests in someone else's threads: they get overlooked by your audience. Start a new thread, with a title that indicates what you want. You'll stand a better chance of getting results. ;)

Spoilers Ahoy

A question and update. Question at the bottom if you want to skip the shameless blogging.

Having wrestled with the console, I finally got Dermin to appear (by setting LOVETALK to 53 and two Dermin variables manually). I rested straight afterwards, but Jaheira didn't take off to the Harper Hold as she's supposed to. Maybe more time needs to elapse; maybe she's moving in mysterious ways again; maybe I screwed it up totally. We'll see.

So off I trot to the Windspear hills. The usual banter with Garren and I'm off to Firkraag's dungeon. I note that this has been beefed up somewhat compared with previous excursions (I guess because I'm higher level): there's more vampires, an extra Iron Golem and Greater Wolfwere from before. However, Samia and her crew, who gave me real problems in the past, are no match for us now. Insect Plague rules and soon we're hacking off their limbs faster than they can scratch the bugs.

An interesting challenge in the shape of the Adamantite Golem though. It appears I have no way of harming it without closing to within clobberable range. I don't like the odds of "I do 1hp damage to him, he does 28 to me." Of course, we could use the Ring of Cheese to regenerate, but that would take forever and be just too boring, so Aerie and Nalia step forward to Lower Resistance, Magic MissilexN and, for the coups de grace, Melf's Minute Meteors. I leave it to Nalia to finish it off because she's got the most pathetic list of kills so far.

In the undead section (south east) I have one of those totally groovy BG2 moments, when everying goes according to plan (pretty rare for me). I scout 'em out, and there's five vampires, so I get Jaheira to put NPP on me, and we charge into the room. Once they're all sucking face on us, I whip out Daystar and whack em with a sunray. Boom! Vampire jam for our scones. (One of them took 1043 damage!)

Here's where the question arose. Right after this, I quick-saved, then scouted the far corridor. Various wraiths and fiends were loitering there, and it was late so I decided to save them for next time. A couple of days later, I reload the game, and lo! they're gone. Reloaded a couple more times, and still no sign. What gives? Are some encounters randomly deleted? Is there some sneaky variable which determines if you've reloaded after scouting?

I've had a group of Shadow Fiends lurking somewhere in the Shadow Thief guild (I was aiding Bodhi) disappear on me once after reloading, and when I did Mekrath's tower (That's his name right, in the sewers in the Temple District?), a Salamander and his icy cousin also were gone when I reloaded my game. These are the only occasions though, I'd say they're bugs... :/

Spoilers again

I checked again on the way out: some of them had reappeared.

The combat with Firkraag was short but deadly. The strategy was simple: resist fear, fire and choatic commands, lower his magic resistance and pelt him with magic missiles. I think my 4 fighters (Korgan had Vailor's Helm) only managed to land one hit in the whole time, and both Korgans got squished like bugs under his mighty talons. He certainly dishes out the punishment.

Thankfully I had Project Image which gave me an extra Nalia, and more to the point, 4 extra magic missiles: he went down on the last one (with my PC poised to be mashed next hit!). Always nice when you do a tough combat without reloading. Also nice that Nalia now has the most powerful kill in our party. She'll make a proper Che Guevara yet.

Keldorn is looking mighty pleased with himself now, what with Carsomyr at his side and a Girdle of Giant Strength. We rested outside (at the Keep), and dispatched Dermin when he came to attack Jaheira. It feels like we're close to the end of this romance now; thankfully it seems like the console may not be needed again.

We headed back to town, flogged a few items, bought a few more, and then did a spot of Mind Flayer flaying to pass the time. Korgan got his brains sucked out of his eye sockets. Although it improved his personality, he is getting careless and is increasingly looking surplus to requirements.

What to do in the meantime while waiting for the romance to finish? I think I've done all the Athkatla quests plus Windspear, Trademeet, Umar Hills: is it worth picking up Anomen and doing some of his specific quests? Do they kick off soon enough or do you have to put up with his nonsense for days and days before they kick in? Thanks for your suggestions.

Another quick question:

I have gone to Brynnlaw now. The stronghold quest was poised with Roenal and his cohorts about to invade. Does this sub-plot get put on hold or can I expect to return from the Underdark to find Isaea Roenal scoffing my finest cheeses and wiping his arse on my tapestries?

Now in Hell and collecting the Tears.

A question about the Selfish option: if I lose 1 DEX and drop below the 17 I needed for dualling from Kensai to Thief, will this have any effect on my "dualledness"?

Thanks.

Nope, no effect (apart from AC and hitting %)
Nope, no effect (apart from AC and hitting %)
Hitting %? Since when? I'm guessing he's not using ranged weapon anyway... >.<

It will modify his AC and thieving skills, however. But it will not un-dual or something like that :D

Actually, am carrying that throwing axe (Hangard's?) and can use it OK, though it's mince so tend not to bother.
