Did you know there is better armour than the shadow-thief armour (+3 studded with bonus to thief abilities?)
It is Armour of the night +5 (studded) with the bonuses.
Excellent. Check it out on the armour section here.

The shadow armor from the dragon is better but it has no bonuses so you can also equip a cloak of prot+2. This gives you a pretty good ac. btw I just kicked the Shadow dragon's ass. I like his armor. btw if you are really desperate you can also edit your abilities. But that is cheating

I never did though.

I dualed in BG1 - not a replay. 7th Level Fighter Dualed to Mage. This was optimum for BG1 but with the BG2 XCap 9th level Fighter may be better.
Main bonus is Hit Points of course, especially if you were greedy on the Constitution Manuals, which is pretty useful for your main character seeing as you can never get to resurrect him...

Pushing the limits of the ex cap at 7 level there.
Just tried the bounty hunter - I only get 1 trap and 1 special trap. B*llocks!
Hmmm... after bad mouthing assassins I might try one after all.
Otherwise regular thief will do.

Yeah I know, I dualled in BG1 at level 5 so I could have a super sneaky back stabbing fighter. Stuck with one trap. SO theres no point in having a kit the specialises in trap setting is there?? D'oh.
Still, a regular thief will do the biz.

Started a BG I game as a Mage and dualed to a fighter at level 2. All the Fighter abilities and bonuses, plus casting spells from scrolls and wands. Very kewl.....
Unfortunately I 'lost' him at some point so he was unavailable for BG II :-(

Now that's what I'm talking about.
My guy's not the best thief in the world, but with special items he's pretty good, and nothi' beats a fighter appearing behind an enemy mage and backtabbing him.
Your mage/fighter has lost very little in dualling so early. Pity you lost him, heh, that's why I went and redid Bg1 last week!
