The Football God are unleashing their wrath on me this week because I didn't post a Cheerleader of the Week on my blog.
I am 2-6 after the early games and will lucky to get back to 7-7 for the week.
In an unrelated housekeeping note, I will be going out of town on Monday night and won't be back until late Wednesday.
As a result, tomorrow I will post results for the week that do not include the MNF game. I will update the standings when I return.
PS -- How 'bout those Packers? There's nothing more dangerous than Brett Favre with a chip on his shoulder. Of course, they were playing the Saints and Favre could have just as easily thrown 5 INTs.

We suck. It's as simple as that.
Gwalchmai 7-6 (53.85%)
Jwmblade 7-6 (53.85%)
Tybaltus 7-6 (53.85%)
VoodooDali 7-6 (53.85%)
The Z 6-7 (46.15%)
HLD 5-8 (38.46%)
Weasel 4-9 (30.77%)
Bloodstalker 3-10 (23.08%)
Everyone except me, Weasel and BS have San Diego in the MNF game, so there's a very real possibility that no one here will finish above .500 for the week.
I am leaving tonight and driving to Florida and should be back sometime late Wednesday night. I will try an post the final results for this week then, but if I don't get around to it Wednesday, they'll be up Thursday.
If you want to pick games for next week, they are:
Atlanta at New Orleans
Carolina at Detroit
Cincinnati at Tennessee
Cleveland at Baltimore
Jacksonville at Pittsburgh
Miami at Tampa Bay
Minnesota at Chicago
N.Y. Giants at Dallas
Washington at Kansas City
New England at Denver
N.Y. Jets at Buffalo
San Diego at Oakland
Houston at Seattle
St. Louis at Indianapolis
What happened to ch85us2001 and Kipi? I noticed that Kipi didn't update his fantasy team and played Randy Moss this week while was on his bye.

sports and such
ok people. i apologize for posting in the wrong forum but i just have to shout out an SOS to those of you who last year had these most amazing discussions and statements (esp voodoodali *deep bow*) about art/life/relationships/politics/anthropology -lately, i've been lurking like a madman (the excuse is that i've been bedridden with a broken leg) and have been quite impressed with the level of discourse. i am curious to know... what happened? from decoding duchamp to betting on football teams...

Speaking simply for this thread, it's football season. This is a yearly thing here that goes back about 3-4 years that I know of with generally the same people participating.
It's always been like this. Just because some people like to engage in livley discussions about the things you mentioned doesn't mean they have no interests outside of the more intellectual threads. In the case of Voo, she happens to be a sports fan as well as a thoughtful and literate person. HLD, Gwally, etc are all highly intelligent people from what I know of them with a broad range of interests. I fail to see the reason why a persons participation in more intellectual threads comes at the requirement of not participating in other threads that interest them. Just because you seem to find no value in the activity such as "betting" on football games doesn't mean no one else does. Some people enjoy talking about sports, some don't.
My advice to you would be that if you want to see more discussion threads on areas that interest you, then start a discussion.

just admiring the amazing breadth here...
---no offense Bloodstalker and others... i'm in a painmedicated stupor due to my bum leg and can't think of anything interesting to say. really. i have just enjoyed reading some amazing threads here. almost read like a book at times. boy you people write a lot about a lot more than gaming : ) and it's all good.
didn't mean to be rude. heck, i'll probably watch some games myself. i was just coming out of an obsessive lurkfest spanning over the past two three years of "speak your mind" awesome reading! sorry if it came off wrong. i've got one more week on the heavy meds, in bed, and then when physical therapy kicks in i'll probably be glued to the football game on tv - jealously watching those guys with their healthy legs, running about like i one day hope to be running again......
cheers

Falcons over Saints - No Deuce, big problems
Panthers over Lions - Kevin Jones won't be enough
Bengals over Titans - Titan's D no match for Jags' D
Ravens over Browns - Baltimore will be looking to rebound
Steelers over Jaguars - Defence vs. defence, but Pittsburgh has the Bus
Buccaneers over Dolphins - Buc's D should stifle Miami
Vikings over Bears - I think Culpepper gets back on track this weak
Cowboys over Giants - Homefield advantage, plus riding high after big win
Redskins over Chiefs - I don't trust KC's 'improved' D anymore
Patriots over Broncos - Will the real New England please stand up?
Bills over Jets - Holcomb can actually use Moulds and Evans, unlike Losman
Raiders over Chargers - San Diego's tired, Oakland's fresh
Seahawks over Texans - Carr's on pace to get sacked 108 times this year
Colts over Rams - Indy actually has a defence, St. Louis doesn't really

Yeah, but Mike Martz won't be coaching due to that bacterial infection around his heart. That means he won't be there to make those two or three screwy "What the hell are you thinking?" calls that he makes every game. As a result, the Rams might actually have a chance.

The Z 42-32 (56.76%)

Weasel 39-35 (52.70%)
VoodooDali 21-21 (50.00%)
Bloodstalker 35-39 (47.30%)

Very true, but I still don't think the Rams have the movers on D.

With renewed confidence in the fact that I can't possibly wind up any lower than last place, here's my picks.
Falcons over Saints- No Duece, actually, nah, it's just the Saints suck
Panthers over Lions- Will the Lions have a reciver left by midseason?
Bengals over Titans- Bengals the better team
Cleveland over Ravens- Ravens have no offense, and this year their defense has went to Hell. On their way to being the trash of the league
Dolphins over Bucs- A hunch.
Bears over vikings- Vikes used all their energy in "other activities"
Cowboys over Giants- 'Boys play to their oponents level, so who really knows?
Skins over Chiefs- No, I really believe this one
Pats over Broncos- Plummer or Brady.....didn't consider this one too long
Bills over jets- Why not?
Chargers over Raiders- Turners teams always underachieve.
Seahawks over Texans- the real bet is how many times Carr gets knocked on his rear
Colts over Rams- Two great offenses, only one team has a defense.

N.Y. Giants - this is going to be an awesome game
Kansas City
New England
N.Y. Jets - Vinny Testaverde!!! 40 is the new 30. He's still sexy as hell too.
San Diego
Seattle
Indianapolis - the rams are screwed now
@Roboluv: Hey SYM - I finally have a fan! Thanks!!!
Sorry, I don't post much anymore. One reason is that I had to prevent BS from laying claim to being a great lurker.
This year has been really hard for me to find the time or energy to post much. One problem I have right now is that I am running a business and have so little free time anymore. That's good news in a way, because my company is becoming more successful.
SYM can be very addictive and it's hard for me to just do a little. I have a tendency to go all the way with it. Also, the death of my brother one year ago really made me kind of isolate myself.
I am finally crawling out of that hole, though.
On a lighter note, this football thread was actually started by one of my very favorite SYMians, Gwally. "Hugs" @Gwally. They had started a football betting pool at Gwally's work (BTW is it all archaeologists, Gwally?), and he initially asked for help in picking teams. I got involved in football because of my SO, who is a sculptor and a sports fan. Now I know more about the game than he does! I guess that just goes to show that I am a true gamer, I don't care what the game is. Plus I love the fact that the nature of the game is violent world domination. I suppose that this is the real reason why Weasel loves football as well
.
@everyone - I sure hope we do better this week with our picks. Last week was really sucky.

Wow. Everyone had a pretty good day. Gwally was 11-2
On a sadder note, BS's fantasy team destroyed mine. Even without Shaun Alexander's TD's, he still would've won by 30 points. I totalled one touchdown, thrown by Eli Manning and none from anyone else. Carson Palmer alone outscored my RB's, TE, WR's, and K. Shaun Alexander outscored my entire team.
At least I'm smart enough not to dress Culpepper

Where no one finished above .500 last week, everyone is over .500 going into the Monday night game.
Tybaltus leads the pack at 12-1 with Gwally at 11-2 and me at 10-3.
No one was brave enough to pick the Rams tonight so the order for the week is pretty much set.
I'll post the final results tomorrow morning.

If not for the Giants blowing it in Dallas, Tybaltus was flirting with bye-week perfection. Pretty much everyone was back on track with no one with fewer than 8 wins. It seems that the football gods were pleased with the Cheerleader of the Week (who you can view on my blog) and rewarded me with another double digit win week.
The Week 6 results are:
Tybaltus 13-1 (92.86%)
Gwalchmai 12-2 (85.71%)
HLD 11-3 (78.57%)
Jwmblade 10-4 (71.43%)
The Z 9-5 (64.29%)
Weasel 9-5 (64.29%)
Bloodstalker 8-5 (61.54%)
VoodooDali 8-6 (57.14%)
Gwally and I are now tied for the lead in the overall standings:
Gwalchmai 55-33 (62.50%)
HLD 55-33 (62.50%)
Tybaltus 54-34 (61.36%)
Jwmblade 51-37 (57.95%)
The Z 51-37 (57.95%)
Weasel 48-40 (54.55%)
VoodooDali 29-27 (51.79%)
Bloodstalker 43-44 (49.43%)
The inactives are still:
ch85us2001 28-18 (60.87%)
Kipi 9-7 (56.25%)
In another housekeeping note, I will be out of town this weekend and next weekend. I've got a date with the Star Princess, the western Caribbean and soon-to-be-Hurricane Wilma. Unless someone else wants to tabulate the results for next week, I will do it all when I get home on 1 November.
The week 7 games are:
Detroit at Cleveland
Green Bay at Minnesota
Indianapolis at Houston
Kansas City at Miami
New Orleans at St. Louis
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati
San Diego at Philadelphia
San Francisco at Washington
Dallas at Seattle
Baltimore at Chicago
Buffalo at Oakland
Denver at N.Y. Giants
Tennessee at Arizona
N.Y. Jets at Atlanta
The week 8 games are:
Arizona at Dallas
Chicago at Detroit
Cleveland at Houston
Green Bay at Cincinnati
Jacksonville at St. Louis
Minnesota at Carolina
Oakland at Tennessee
Washington at N.Y. Giants
Kansas City at San Diego
Miami at New Orleans
Philadelphia at Denver
Tampa Bay at San Francisco
Buffalo at New England
Baltimore at Pittsburgh

@HLD - I hope you're okay. Hurricane Wilma looks tough! I suggest you commandeer the ship and demand that they dump all the current passengers, then go around the world and pick up all the SYMians for a cruise of drink and debauchery!!!!
BTW - I'm going on a cruise on 11/20 - the Norwegian Dawn western caribbean. Can't wait, I need the break.
