That was the laugh of the day :D
Agreed. That was hilarious.

Anyway, what's so funny about the US being the land of the free, Magrus? It certainly is! Now do what Bush tells you, worship only the Christian god, and buy a big SUV.

Given that this thread was bumped, you might want to read this. :D

Mexico is fun. Canada is evil
My friend, Gen. JC Christian, tells me that people are making fun of me for saying that a certain Canadian official is a very pretty man. I said that while I was in Mexico. I like Mexico. It's a fun place, but it seems like I always get in trouble there.

My father use to get mad at me for things I did in Mexico. He would yell at me and call me a useless drunk. Mother always defended me. "Leave W alone, you wimpy little bastard," she'd say, "people are supposed to experiment when they go to Mexico." Mother is always right. It's ok to experiment in Mexico and that's all I was doing when I said that man was pretty.

Our trip to Mexico was a success. Presidente--that's how they say "president" in Mexican--Fox even said good things about me. The Canadians were a different story. One of their officials denied a very important request that I made to him. We can't allow something like that to happen. That's why I've asked that Canada be added to our list of axes that are evil. I told Condi to put it in my State of the Union Speech.

I've also asked my man-secretary, Mr. Rumsfeld, to draft up invasion plans against Canada. When I told him why, he said that we couldn't get the American public to go to war over something like that. I replied that maybe we could say that they had bad weapons hidden in their vast natural gas reserves. That made Mr. Rumsfeld smile really big, and he said we'd that we'd liberate Edmonton by Easter.

Look at it this way: While many options are restricted, you're always free to obey.

lol! these maps are great :D

You know.. on a more serious note.. if it were not for the fact that we are disgusted by US foreign policy and the lack of social programmes (most principally, Medicare)... we would have likely moved to the US a long time ago.
It is far more culturally dynamic than Canada.
When we go down down to Seattle for the day, we can actually feel a pulse and a very real sense of vitality. For all its size, and two million plus population.. Vancouver often feels like it is on life support. A pretty city from a geographic perspective.. but monumentally dull...

An American friend once told me years and years ago that Canada can be summed up as "big, beautiful and boring." IMO, she was absolutely right..

Not really. People who move to the Us are tossed nto the melting pot. Canada allows a lot more culturally and allow a lot more for the common person that the US.

I have been to many cities in the US. Either you move to an expensive and active city with a young population, like LA, or you move to your A-typical neighbourhood, which is boring. Or you can move to even lower levels that you don't see often in Canada. :D

Often times I will go to the US and see such vibrant cities... then remember that I am in one of the major tourist areas. Even in the off season, Stanely Park is packed with tourists, and in Calgary, the Saddledome is in full swing. In Toronto, thousands of people go to the CN tower hourly... or to the revolving ceiling of the stadium next door, or they fill Centerville to capacity, Canada's wonderpark is a blast, the Great Lakes are beautiful and have tons of beaches, not to mention the West Coast, and Niagra Falls is always open for tourists. ;)

The atmosphere seems quieter... that is because you don't have to listen to the sounbd of what America sounds like at night.

Go elsewhere outside of the City of the Nearly Dead, Underfed and Newly Weds, DW. We promise not to bore you. :D

Not to say some areas of the US is nice, I just enjoy Canada much more. :)

I happened to love the little I saw of Canada the few times I was there. The locals, and this was in tourist areas like Niagra Falls and Toronto mind you, seemed friendly and helpful. The majority of the people wandering the street in the areas of the US I've been to want nothing to do with you.

@Hill,
I have actually lived all across Canada, from East Coast to Central.. to West Coast..
The only place I did not find dull was Montreal... ;)

I have, equally, travelled quite a lot through the US, through non-tourist, as well as tourist areas... I just find it more vital.

Don't get me wrong.. there is a lot about Canada that I appreciate, as opposed to the US, the aforementioned foreign policy issue (not that we are angels, but that's another topic completely), and social programmmes.. plus we have tighter gun controls. And yes... much of the land here is very beautiful...
But, I've never been so sure about the "mosaic" vs "melting pot" analogy....
I find, for example, that the Black, Hispanic and Jewish US cultures are extremely distinct....

But, you are right... in comparison to Central Canada, and yes, also Alberta, The coast is sort of the "newly wed and nearly dead" zone.. which no doubt scews my perspective a bit. :D As you know, my SO is originally from London, Ont. and he makes frequent comparisons. Not that London is a fast-paced, swinging city.. but I think you know what I mean ;)

You forget that I travel a lot. I have been to America several hundred times and been to dozens, hundreds, maybe over a thousand cities. ;)

It's all hype. You have spent too much time in Vancouver. It has made you forget the fun in all these areas. :D

Trust me on this one. You will see very little in alternate cultures over there. Then again, you will rarely see a country with a lot of diverse cultures. Thinking on America, I can really see only three types of cultures, the 'Thug' Culture, the 'Rural' Culture, and the 'Easy Beaver' or Subdivision/City Culture. ;)

Hmm...last time I was in Toronto I was 7 I do believe. That may have something to do with how people treated me. I was a scrawny little thing with spikey blonde hair. Everyone thought I was cute. :o My how things have changed.

Hmm....delve deeper. You'll find more if you know where to look. I believe I may fit within a few you haven't mentioned. However, aside from those who happen to run the country, celebrities, and the rich, those three break down to a large majority of the population. I make it a point to stomp those who fit into your "Thug" (wannabee) group on a regular basis. They need to be taken down a peg or 12.

The rest are your average person, aka the bachelors, those still in school, and those who live in the center, or a least close to the center of the city. I like to group those together. ;)
