Larger textures requires more memory so it makes sense. But corridors, tunnels should be least demanding because of limited rendering area. There should be no problems with intro either, because it’s prerendered movie. Maybe it’s some kind of problem with audio? Have you tried different settings (eax, environmental effects, disabling sound in game etc.)? Have you tried playing intro from windows?

Not the intro movie. The movie runs fine. It's the real-time cutscene at the beginning of the game that I encountered quite a lot of stuttering. As for my audio drivers, I already updated to the latest one but I would check on the other settings to see if I miss out anything. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

You can also try lowering “Hardware Sound Acceleration Level” (fastest access through dxdiag). There were some titles where disabling hardware sound acceleration solved all problems (slow downs and even crushing). Didn’t have reason to do that for quite some time, but it’s worth a try.

question with vista

this is for anyone who has vista, maybe you can help me. my system meets all the requirments for this game, unfortuantly, like many other games and software, my version of version of vista home premium hates it so much that i can install it, but i get errors. one, i think i fixed, i did the update, but now i get the d3dx9_35.dll error. ive dled the .dll and installed it, but apparently, it doesnt make a difference. if anyone can help, id sorely appreciate it, hate to think i wasted the $50 or whatever on a game i cant play cause my systems crappy.

I'd guess you need the DirectX 9.0C runtime for Vista.

What are your system specs?

On another note, perfomance in this game is not that great at all. Running a Q6600@2.8, 4GB low latency mem, 2x GTS 512's in SLI with latest BETA nVIdia drivers and I still get low frames in one part in ACT III and the burning city ACT V. 1680x1050 max detail.

Would put this down to Witcher being based on a HEAVILY modified NWN 1 engine. Really I think they could have used something better.
