Well that is very nice for you to say. :) But self confidence is also something I lack....And I cant imagine spending all that time correcting papers, and dealing with kids. I mean I cant handle 2 ten year olds, they can run amok, and I wouldnt be able to do a thing. I imagine I could deal with any grade 7 and up. Control factor and respect factor is higher in those grades, making it easier. But if I were to decide for that field, now would be the time to think about it, now that Im starting college.
Ty, if I (who has neither parent as a teacher) can make a good teacher (and I've been told I do, despite not having done much in the way of teaching, just a little tutoring) then you should make a fine teacher.
So far the basic thing I've found is treat your students with respect, and generally you'll get it back with interest. It's very much you get what you give, as you seem to have figured out. ;)
Besides that, all I really know is that the best way I've found to teach is to show students the way to do something (make sure they understand the theory, of course) and then let them do it. The more they get things right the better their confidence will get, and the more they'll get right in turn.
Basically teach them to figure things out for themselves. Don't try to control things too much, that's not learning/teaching, the trick is to make them want to learn, or at least to get things right.

But then again, I'm good with kids, so that helps a lot.

@Scayde-Another one who can't be bothered with sports talk, I see. Good stuff! :)

This is a long thread. :D

[/spam]

I did some teaching for a while a year ago: I taught Latin to some primary school kids in an after-school club. It was an...interesting experience. I did it with a friend, so it was easier to keep control. One observation I made was that the behaviour of the kids dropped dramatically when their usual teacher was sitting in with us - probably something about showing off. We tended to run very relaxed classes - as we didn't have any actual authority, there was no point in making empty threats - and it worked, as we managed to keep their attention for most of the time. That seemed to be the key - you have to keep their attention. Break down lessons into small chunks, and don't concentrate on one thing for too long, especially with younger children. All in all, I had a lot of fun doing it, but at this point I wouldn't want to do it as a career. There are far better-paid jobs out there :p

My thoughts exactly. See how long it can go before one of the mods closes it anyway...10,000 would be a good target :D
