What Do You Want in KotOR III?
I don't like the idea of an unending game. I mean what's the point of roaming around when you've finished the main story?
I think he meant have stuff which previous Kotors did not have, like loads of other things to explore besides the main story. I don't know if you have played Morrowind, but you can spend weeks on that game without even touching the main story and still not run out of stuff to do or places to explore. The problem is that to do something like that in Kotor 3 would take a lot of planning and development time and going on past performance I doubt LucasArts would be willing to give a developer that amount of time. Also I don't think it would be as easy to incorporate stuff like that into the Star Wars universe - in a fantasy rpg game you can make tombs, caves, ruins etc. and have loads of guilds and factions. I don't see how you can do it to the same degree with Star Wars, in which case I agree with you DesR85 - I wouldn't like an unending Kotor game.
I agree. The chapter system will make the game more linear. By the way, in response to zander811's post why don't you just reload your last save? Isn't that what save games are for?
I must admit I don't see the problem with just saving then reloading. If you keep several saves going each game its pretty hard to accidentally wipe over a save and not be able to easily go back to an earlier save if you want to try something different.

Ok, I know you can save and reload, but in a never-ending game, I'm sure there'd by a time or 2 where you'd forget to save for a while, or save over the wrong file. I'm not saying it's big enough of a problem to cast the idea aside, but it'd be irritating.
But I don't think it should be NEVER-ending, just a lot longer. The last KOTOR didn't have anything more than you needed to make a sequel. Put more time into making it, I say.
I would like the fighting to be better, like the saber-saber fights should be more like the movies, mainly episodes I & III.
And jumping wouldn't be that great of an idea, but if it was similar, (not exact to) the PS2 Episode III game, where if you stood on a special mark you could do a force jump. It'd put jumping into the game, but not worry about people jumping into invisible walls when they wanna jump over a barrier.
Also, I'd really like more control over my party, cuz I hated when there was an enemy and I'd try to defuse bombs in the path between us and our target, and my buddies would run straight into the bombs. Got annoying.

I would like it if they just gave you a button to click (like in other games such as the Baldur's Gate series) that turns party AI on or off and when its off nobody in your party will do anything without you commanding them to do so. It would make situations like the one you describe (which annoys the hell out of me too) no longer a problem.

Okay, I'll extract this command idea from Star Wars: Republic Commando. They have 3 commands mapped to the function keys (F1, F2, F3).
This is how its mapped.
F1: Commence assault mode (and they will pursue any enemy in their sights)
F2: Follow and stay close to me (follow you at all times, no running off)
F3: Defend this position (select a part to defend and stay there)
Will guarantee be a good idea, I bet. Simple yet effective, I say.

That's a good idea, I hope they take that into consideration.
Another thing I would like to see is the detail put into the clothes. Like in the upcoming PS3 game by Naughty Dog, he has a necklace thing that flops around when he's running, much like it would in real life. While I don't think KOTOR III needs a necklace for the characters, I think that effect could go well with clothing such as the hood of the robe, as it is not sewed to the back of the robe in the movies, and probably wouldn't be in the time of the game, either. Just one small thing that could help make the game better detailed.

Stuff like the robe thing would be nice, but I could live without the little stuff like that as long as they put the effort into the storyline and gameplay. I like games that look good, but a lot of good-looking games run the real risk of lacking game play depth and story depth due to the amount of time spent on how it looks. Sometimes the games with less graphical detail end up being the most fun to play. However, if they put stuff like that in and made a good game then I'm all for it
I like your suggestion Des, I'm surprised they haven't put anything like that in previous Kotors. It would vastly improve the party control in the game.

Have to agree with what mr_sir said. However, there are some games with intensive graphical details that are pretty good in gameplay and storyline as well such as Half Life 2 and FEAR but those need very high budgets to pull off. I also agree that if they put gameplay and storyline first before focusing on the more finer details, the game will turn out great (just make sure the graphics are good enough but not exactly next-gen).
Maybe they could follow what some developers do to some of their current games. They could follow Tomb Raider: Legends' example of giving you the option choose whether you want next-gen graphics or not and to be honest, it's still great to look at even without the next-gen graphical details. The second example is Call of Duty 2 where you can use DirectX 7 if your graphics card is not up to snuff.

Your suggestion doesn't sound off-topic to me. I don't have an XBox but you have a point here as the XBox version of both KOTORs have little or no cheats at all. At least it will be fair if both the console and PC version have a set of cheats.

I agree. One of the things I preferred in KOTOR to Morrowind was the idea that you're taking part in an actual story, with a beginning middle and end, but how the story developed was pretty much up to you (and for my part, chapters are a BAD idea, quite unnecessary).
Thinking about this, is it not fair to say that one of the points of the KOTOR games not being open ended was kind of in keeping with the whole "your decisions affect your outcome" Jedi role play thing? I love Morrowind, but the problem is that the more open ended you get, the less reaction the world has to what you're doing, because it has to accomodate that many possiblities of action.

Quite true. The reasons you mentioned do ring a bell here. Most open-ended games I've known so far are not good candidates for sequels. That's why, in my opinion, games which are linear tend to give me more satisfaction than open-ended ones plus they are good candidates for sequels.
I was starting to wonder what if the KOTOR series have no bad/good alignment? Do you think it'll still be a good game? Especially when they use the LS path as the main story for the game? Well, in my opinion, it is possible and it will be a pretty good linear game.

So kinda like the "grey Jedi" thing in kotor??? That would be cool but it would be hard for developers to find a "balence" every situation. While there at it, what about creating your own army or faction, with the uniforms, officers thw whole nine yards?

Well, not exactly. What I meant was ditching the good/bad alignment effect and instead replace it with decisions that will have certain effects and repercussions.
I forgot to mention that you start off as a Jedi but the decisions you make will have an impact on how you accomplish your mission. Meaning, you can do whatever you want just as long as you get the job done kind of aspect. May make the game linear but at least there is some open-endedness in there.

Normally if I wanted a sequal to be great and not just good, I'd say take as much time as needed to make as many people happy as possible. Unfortunatly, and I think many will agree with me, the last KOTOR game left a bad taste in our mouths, and we can't wait for the next one to get out so we can play it and forget the last game. Maybe for KOTOR IV they should take more time and make it longer and more "whatever you do influences the galaxy"-like, after we can be held over w/ the third.

Jedi Master!
i think that you shoulc start off as a kid (i know some of you dont want that), and do the Fable thing of kid>teen>adult. at some point in time, you should be under a jedi master who trains you to be good (dont have to listen to him). i think some of you will like my idea under Storylines and Remarks.

Things i want in KOTOR3-
Returning Characters-
Atton- Returns as a jedi, just has always seemed like he'd be capable of bein a jedi lol
T3-M4 ( I know its a stupid droid but hes still cool in my opinion lol)
Bao-Dur- Should continue to learn the ways of the force from the main character
General Things added/ fixed in the game-
Fix Glitches before game is released if possible.
Allow people to play after the game is beaten- i know its stupid because you wont have anything to do but maybe you can still have enemies to fight and tons of quests and stuff to do.
I guess thats all i want in the game, i dont ask much IMO lol..
P.S- also i think there should be more cities and stuff than just one in a planet.
although i know it wont happen cuz these games take place like 3000 years before the first movie but if possible could we have some character from star wars movies in there? also i know it wont happen but my nephew suggested it
If there's a possibility of time travelling in the game, its possible to include characters from the Star Wars movies into the game set 4000 years before the events of Episodes 1-6.
