Last post for the night. I'll update some more tommorrow. But for now... *Drumroll*

You go upstairs to the second floor. You get to the top of the stairs and take note of the other set of stairs to the west leading up to the third level. The second floor comprises mostly of a crossroad with a giant shrine to Lolth in the centre of the entire layout. Above the giant shrine their is a dome where the mother of all spider nests can see seen the webs are so thick and many you can't even see the ceiling above the shrine and the spiders, while not monsterous in size are about the size of half a domestic house cat.
As for the floor itself you notice it's not as spares as the previous floor. The walls have the typical spikes and hooks protruding from the wall, albiet with more of them occupied with webs than the previous floor, and in between each pair of flames there is a small cavity in the wall with a bust of a famous drow of some sort of the Val'Sarghress clan. The busts themselves are not actually fastened to their cavities but weigh roughly 120 lbs and are 25 inchs tall, they are made of a stone of some sort.
After marvelling at that for awhile you ask one of the guards where you could find your room. You notice that ALL the guards on this floor are female, although some are arguably more butch than some men.
Once in your room you over turn the entire place.
As mentioned before there is a window with a purple curtain to the west of the room where you can see that outside of your room their is a balcony that seems to go all around the castle with only a small iron handrail separating people on the path from a 50 foot plummet. That aside the amazing view of the gorgeous city of Overdark from your room is quiet astound especially when all that lights the city is the moonlight from the east and the ever burning torches that illuminate the other castles of other clans from afar. Like beacons.
You continue rummaging around the room. You search your nightstand and find a spyglass, a few candles, flint and steel, a few oils, high-quality ink a quill, some charcoal, roughly 45 sheets of clean paper, 5 empty envelopes, a holy symbol of lolth and a half used purple wax bar.
You find something of larger interest when overturning the bed, there are several envelopes with noting written on the envelopes but a dozen or so messages in each one, all with crimson handwriting the writing will take you awhile to decipher, so you decide to bring it with you. Also under the bed is a fanciful dagger, looks more potent that what you had, and a bronze rusted key.
You rummage through your other desk and find your dagger along with several books... these include
Rise of the Clans
Demonweb Pits
Sacred Scriptures VI
You find a secret compartment in the back of the drawer with a ebony scroll with gold ends, wrapped around it is a white paper with a crimson ribbon, neatly packaged.
You go through your armoire and only seem to find several perfumes and personal garments, although you can't find any full dresses or other bits of clothes, perhaps they're in another room.
Finally you move the mirror to find a secret compartment with a journal... except you notice many of the pages have been ripped out. Several in the middle and a good chunk from the end...
You head towards the library after reassembling your room and end up at the library. From there you decide you had best get started by reading the Sacred Scriptures I, while looking for it you bump into a guard who is in the library...
But something is odd about the guard, the guard's armor is ramshackle and constructed of various bits and has a bunch of dents. The drow lifts his visor and you see that it's Steel tooth.
"You might enjoy this, it'll become your new favourite read.", he says handing a locked book to you along with gold key. You put the key in the book and open it to see that it is actually a container with your punch daggers cleverly inset into the pages that are glued together.
"You'll be starting work in about 2 days, We'll meet again by the Lolth statue on the second story catwalk, anything you think you'll need in the meantime?", Steeltooth says putting his visor down and wrapping the cape around his armour to hide it's condition.
I'll use your gather info check in the next bit.

You try and recall what a Tortle is but only recall that their intelligent humanoid turtle creatures. Perhaps it is a natural denizen of the island.
You ask the Captain whether they should rescue Soloman or not.
Waltur turns back to you and says "Give me three minutes, and I'll get everything organized...", Then he marches on deck and begins giving orders.
You then look at Ariel and tell her that you need to talk...
Ariel takes you to a room and an makes sure nobody is in the room and decides to finally tell you all her secrets in hopes to gain your trust...
Sense motive: 10+1=11
I sent you a private message with all the details.
...After your conversation it seems like she is telling the truth. She may be hiding something you can't tell what it is.
You arrive back on the deck, there are two groups set up on the deck...
In the first group there is Waltur Blud with two backpacks equipped and the strange lizard man Raz (Waltur's second in command).
Everyone is remarking at Raz because he has none of his armour on and most of them haven't seen what he's looked like.
In the second group there is Cid, Bggyvir, Quarion, Rilo-kar & the remaining students and crewmen.
Waltur looks at the two of you, "Alright we can finalize the plan now whether you're ready or not. We have two options. The first option is that you join our group. This place is Raz's home world in a sense and on top of that while not being all that socialable Raz is one of the few remaining Furyians still alive and kicking."
Knowledge (Nature): 5+4=9
You simply shrug having no idea what that means. Jumps onto one of the ship's masts and clings to it, within a few seconds his entire body camouflages to mix in with the wood texture only his bizarre pupils being truly noticeable. After some "Ooohs" and "Aaaahs" from the students he slides down and turns off his camouflage ability regaining his scale like appearance.
"While I love my ship, anywhere Raz goes, I go.", Says Waltur firmly, to which Raz simply grunts and nods. "Then the four of us track down your students get them back and then you can go about your business."
"Option 2 is you head for whatever it is, we retrieve the students and we meet up at the ship afterwards, that way we spend as little time as necessary on this death island."
Quarion then advances, "Me and my crack team of wizards and spellslingers will stay with the students and crew members and ensure the safety of the ship, heck maybe we can find something less vicious in the immediate area to dissect for biology."
Belfore
You and Soloman run through the woods, keeping a keen eye to make sure you don't get attacked by any sneaking animal or plant life.
Soloman then asks in between pants, "Nah... Most of them are maesters like myself... but not as knowledgeable or equipped... So What's you.... Name? Do you live on this... island? Have you seen anything odd on... odd on the island that we should know about?"
Survival:18+4+2=22
After responding or not, you easily find the 5 students they are in an area where the foliage at the tree level thins in the jungle. The students are being assaulted by 3 human sized birds with clawed hands at the end of their bright red wings. 2 of them keep swooping down on the students trying to scratch them while the third one tosses sharpened tree banches down at them.
The avian humanoids who stand about 5 feet tall and have a wingspan of 20 feet. They have three- fingered hands midway along the edge of each wing.
The faces of the birdmen resemble a cross between those of parrots and eagles. They have gray-black beaks and black eyes set frontally in their heads, providing keen binocular vision.
Knowledge (Nature): 9 + 2 + 2= 13
You have no idea what these bird creatures are or if they have any weaknesses. The bird creatures then shriek as they spot you and Soloman. Soloman pulls out a wand & you pull out your mace. You hope his wand can take them out since you're going to have a hard time hitting the skirmishing fliers and their swooping attacks.
Initiative for two "swoopers": 6+2=8
Initiative for "thrower": 2+2=4
Initiative for Soloman Winter: 14+2=16
Battle map shouldn't be necessary, you're within walking range of everything and running back into the jungle may result in more encounters.

You move one of the stones out of the formation, and Mao-ling slowly but surely gets up. He then walks over to the rock where the rapier had been and kicks it with all his might in frustration before turning back to rejoin you. The whole experience seems to have put him in a rather foul mood.
You can't help but wonder what sort of person would set up that sort of trap and what's the point if it could be de-activated so easily.
You decide to continue down on the path, wiser now knowing to avoid such an obvious set up for next time.
You continue a little deeper into the forest, you hear some commotion up ahead you race forward and find a group of villagers being confronted by a goblin. The goblin looks rather wealthy and stands in front of the 3 villagers who are merely armed with the meagre belongings. One has a pitchfork, one has a lantern and axe, and the woman has a crossbow.
The Goblin looks at the people, "Drop all your money and jewelry. Or else things will get ugly and we don't want that..."
"You monster!", shouts the man lunging forward with his pitchfork. The goblin jumps out of the way and shouts, "That's it! Get them boys! Take all their belongings, don't bother killing them unless necessary!"
Ling-mao looks at you wondering simply what is going on, while you're still wondering what villagers are doing this deep down in a dangerous forest.

Steel tooth merely smiles at your comment and walks away.
You begin looking though the book taking a seat on the chair in the corner of the room.
You open up the first couple of pages and immediately see this gem of wisdom:
Fear is as strong as steel, while love and respect are soft, useless feelings none may lean on. All Drow who do not worship Lloth must be converted or destroyed. All weak and rebellious Drow must die. All who impugn the Faith must perish. Anyone who harms a spider must perish. So sayeth Lloth. All Yath must enforce these laws, or face trial by the Temple. Lloth Tlu Malla!
You smirk to yourself, if this is what the vast majority of these books teach then this'll at least make for some mildly interesting reads.
You read on and are able to discover abit about the church structure.
The church of Lolth is run by a sect called the Arach-Tinilith. They are in charge of upholding the laws, traditions and customs of all true Drow. They act as an independent house from the royal clans, however only female royality of the clans can be members.
There are 5 ranks in the Arach-Tinilith. From highest to lowest.
Ulath'tallar, the highest rank and only one can exist in a culture at a time. The Ulath'tallar acts as the queen of Overdark, so that would be your 'mother' Quain'tana. If she were to die then the most suitable high-priestess of the same clan would take over, and within the next 2 months all the High-priestesses would gather and perform a set of trials to see who would become the new permanent Ulath'tallar.
Yath'Tallar, or High-priestesses, are Priestesses who come from the royality of the house. Aside from serving Lolth there goal is to maintain order within the house. One of the High-priestesses, usually the eldest, is given the title of Mistress and overlooks the clan as ruler. Unless the clan's ruler is an Ulath'tallar. There is two clans said to be an exception to this system, but it doesn't say which one or in what way.
Faerz'un'arr, or seeresses, are priestesses on par with the power of a Yath'Tallar, but not of royal blood. They usually act as advisors to them, many rumoured to be able to divine the future. It is mentioned that this group has been slowly been going extinct, but not why.
Yath'rin, or priestesses are non-royality females who either serve the church internally or go on quests ordained by the church.
Yath'abban, or temple agents are simply devout followers of Lolth, it is mentioned that all drow are expected to be this merely as followers of the faith. It's the only rank men are allowed to achieve in the church. But it doesn't seem like an important rank, it's just a follower of the faith.
That seems to be the entire hierarchy of the church. However the book also mentions another unofficial class known simply as "wardens", but no actual details are made clear about this.
Now that you'd been throughly bored out of your skull, you overhear some music from your immediate left. You swing over in shock completely surprised to have not heard the person enter or get that close until now.
The drow male is resting on the ledge of the window with a feather in his hat, and simply strumming his bizarrely shaped lute. You notice that minstrel has brown clothing with some yellow fabrics splashed in. While a garish color scheme it's a nice change from the usual purple and black motif that dominates the castle.
"Am I breaking your concentration?", asks the drow somewhat aloofly.

Keeping in mind the basic idea of how this drow, Ariel should be, "Is there a reason you are playing music in a place of reading or are you simply dense?"

The drow simply smiles to your comment, "I was told that this is where I could find you... as for the song, do you like it or do you have a favourite song?"
"Alright Raz", says Waltur, "Do your magic!"

"I'm more partial to all sound itself as opposed to just music, but I digress, perhaps I could ask your assistance in a matter...
You don't seem to be native directly to our family and look as if you have a more elective and slightly looser lifestyle. Combine that with the fact that you were searching me down, I imagine you already know the predicament I'm in with my memory.
So, first I shall ask who you are and what you want with me, and then, if I like you, well we'll just go from there.
So...do you have a name?"

As a quick note the attackers are airborn, so attacking them with your mace (a melee weapon) is incredibly difficult. The only way to attack the swooping beings is to get near the students and perform attacks of opportunity, or find a way to bring the birdmen down to ground level and make them stay there long enough to land some solid blows... or maybe something else if you can think of it.
Soloman waves his wand an points at the birdman throwing the javelins.
Use magic device:1+4=5
"S**t.", Soloman curses, The birdman with the javelins seems to be angry now. The two swooping birdmen then try to attack the students who are on the ground trying to avoid their claws.
18+0=18 Hit
Damage: 1d4-1 + grapple(d20+0 vs 10): 1-1+ 11+0= 0 damage + success
5+0=5 Miss
vs 10
The two birds swoop down and one of them manages to pluck one of the students off of the ground and drags him high up into the air.
You then run into place to shield the students from any further abductions. Soloman sees the student struggling within the birdman's grasp in mid-air, "Double S**t.", the man says begrudgingly pulling out another wand, "Hey Belfore if I manage to get rid of that birdman with my colleage can you catch them or help break the fall?" Soloman looks at you but then sees the other birdman toss it's sharpened stick at him.
2+3=5 Miss
But the bird's aim is far off as the stick flies deep into the jungle rather than lancing him.

The goblin panicks and looks at you and lets out an eep! "C'mon guys now!" Then suddenly two nets fly out from opposite directions of the path...
The first net flings on top of the villagers...
D20=2 Miss
D20=1 Fumble
D20=1 Fumble (double fumble
)
D20=11 Hit
One of the hidden goblins overzealously throws his handmade net which has a large hole in the centre. Despite not entagling any of the villagers the dimwitted goblin manages to entangle himself in the small portion of the net that did stay woven and rolls down the hillside bumping into and entangling one of the villagers unintentionally. The goblin in the centre of the road simply puts his palm against his face and shakes his head in a mixture of disbelief and embarrassment.
Then a little delayed the second hidden goblin tosses his net...
d20=3 miss
d20=9 miss
d20=19 Hit
This net fairs somewhat better but due to the goblin's poor aim ends up only entangling one of the other villagers. That leaves only you, Mao-ling, a villager and the goblin highwayman standing on the road.
"Full on tactical retreat boys", Shouts the goblin highwayman, "We'll live to rob another day!". The goblin then pulls out a small dagger from his boot while the latern holding villager backs away in fear.

I turn to him as he walks and say this (only if there are no other people around that can hear this)-
"I have a message as well," Clears his throat and changes his voice to the demonic whispering of Whistler. "Piss off, coward who does not show his face." I change back to Ariel's voice- "Have a nice evening."
If I know someone could hear me, someone aside from steeltooth that is, then I simply quote a lolth scripture I may have learned pertaining to this subject, akin to "thou shalt not deceive...yadda yadda."
@DM-
RPGGuy has been missing for some time now, including in my game, so I might suggest we have him be the lookout and Azhag accompany Khannon through the vault, instead of the other way around. This would allow his character to be active and allow us to continue the vault exploration. A suggestion, up to you though.
Who knows, maybe he'll pop out of nowhere here shortly.

The monkey swing out of the trees and pounce upon you and immediately try to scavenge through your personal belongings. You toss the monkeys off and they retreats towards the trees. Raz did not fare so well since the monkeys seemed more intent on simply kicking the lizardman in the chest while swinging between the trees. The Furyian simply shrugs off their blows and begins to retaliate. One of the monkeys that hit you trips as it runs for the trees.
You may roll for an attack of opportunity.
The three of you see that you are surrounded by the monkeys. "Any bright ideas wizard", Waltur says absently keeping his vision at the trees.
You may decide the party's initiative, if you can't decide instead simply roll your initiative and I'll roll up the other 2.

You are sure that nobody but you and the minstrel are in the library and threaten him in your demonic voice. Which send the minstrel walking noticeably quicker out of the library.
Once he is gone, you decide that you might be able to do one last thing before sunrise and curfew occurs. You assume that while you can ignore curfew while inside a building, especially being nobility, people might get suspicious if you didn't obey the drow curfew by at least going to sleep.
But of course sunrise isn't in for another hour so perhaps you could try snagging a book with you or maybe explore the castle some more.
You look around the library to see if there are any books of interest and notice a door to the west of the room. You give the handle an quick twist and notice that it's locked. Perhaps it's a forbidden section to the library. While contemplating this you decide to look at some of the other titles in the library. Titles of interest include:
Advanced Undead II
Spiders of Underdark
The Accursed
Sacred Scriptures II
Khannon & Rhag'nuul
I was noticing his disappearance as well. I don't know if I want to separate him from the party, especially since the reason the party went back into the vault was to avoid the incoming Gnolls, so it'd be odd for him to risk himself getting captured without his approval. However, if he's not back in action by NEXT monday, I'll play his characters as NPCs however without making brilliant suggestions and up to your characters suggestions. Such as if you asked him to disable a device, he'd do it sort of deal.

Nicolas/all...I am sorry but real life has showed up and kicked me in the balls...hard. I don't want to get into it in a public forum but I have some pretty serious things I have to take care of and I don't know when I will be able to return.
Believe me, it's not just being busy with football stuff. I wish it was just that simple.
I might be gone for a few weeks, so I am not sure what to do or suggest. If we can avoid killing off my characters, that would be appreciated. I am willing to let someone else run them. Maybe you can DM them into a prison or some other role-playing excuse to put them in stasis.
You have my email. Send me your decision and I will respect it.
Special apology to Sib and koz. ug
