Still, picking more than one Vampiric Touch when there's also Melf's Minute Meteors, Haste, Dispel Magic, Skull Trap and Slow seems wrong, somehow.

I agree with you Xyk.....i think melf's meteors and skull trap are the best spells for that lvl...

@xyx - that's why sorcerers rule, you don't have to pick any spell over another. you can cast 6 vampiric touch if you wanted or 6 melf's without having to prepae before hand.

I know! If I wasn't obsessed with dual classing, I'd pick Sorcerers over Mages every time.

Perhaps if I hack the 2DA files I could dual to Sorc... Anyone ever tried such a thing? I once tried dualling to Paladin, but it crashed my game :( Read somewhere that you can hack the game to dual from Barbarian, though.

2DA files are where some of the game rules are stored. They're encapsulated in other files (BIF, I believe), but with the right kind of tool you can extract them. They're usually readable with Notepad. When you place an edited file in your Override folder, the game uses that one instead of the original. That's how nearly all of the fixes and tweaks work.

Take a look in your Override folder and see if there are any 2DA files in it. Try reading them with Notepad and you'll see they're not very mysterious.

Well... Magic in ToB? Good cheese? The (mis)uses of Project Image? Why are and will Mages be the most powerful class in BG2?

Why don't we talk about the incredible secret of the pantaloons! :D MUWHAHAHAHAHA!!! :p ;)

Image
"Where's me pantaloons?
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

has anyone played with a pure mage party?
Right now I'm starting up a game with a combination of 6 sorcerers/mages. I think I'm going to use a conjurer and an abjurer and 4 sorcerers. Or I might try 6 sorceres. As you can see I really like sorcerers. Has anyone tried this yet?
Also, I'm interested in maybe joining this guild what are the requisites (if any)?

Anyway, at least maybe this topic can spark some discussion. I think it's going to be great. I'll have to think of interesting ways to equip each mage. Instead of the most obvious basic mage iquipment I might have a mage with rings of earth and air control, boots of the north and the staff of air control. I'm pretty excited about the possibilities.

Don't forget the lowly spell Armor for a 6 mage party. You'll not be able to find all that many good robes and bracers, and the thing lasts for 10 hours or so.

IMO, you don't need a Mage in a party of 4+ Sorcerers. The whole point of Mages is their wide spell selection, something which you already have (unless all Sorcerers choose the same spells...).

Even just firing 6 Magic Missiles hurts. Wizards kick @$$.
