Well, presumably there isn't going to be a tavern in the middle of enemy territory :p . And you're not going to want to retreat every time you want to add more people. A better idea: Potions of Recall, perhaps- so you're limited in the number of times you can leave. And a portal to send you back to the action.

It's just the quick way out. To this tavern or a city.

And you could include merchants that way possibly.

Hmm, yes, now I understand. In that case, I would prefer the stone. Easier to use, and I can always restrict where it works and where it doesn't.
And that way some sub-quests I have made could be included better, cause the it wont take long time to just go back and forth.Actually, the stone could be a gift from clerics to NPC, and it could be restricted how many persons it can carry out in one use, so that every time things look bad party wont be able to just recall out. :)

Yeah that should work better :) .

What else can we work on?
so that every time things look bad party wont be able to just recall out.

You could do that just by restricting where it is usuable (and how many uses/day). For example it could be usuable in safe resting areas- which could also be quite rare.

About merchants, there can always be some travellers who are willing to parter. Of course, moslty they will have only basic supplies, like arrow and bullets and so on. That way party doesn't have to recall to town every time their inventories are full.

What do you think, what could be max number of players in party? 6? more or less?

One possibility. But in my way it would also give some roleplaying and fun, when they have to quickly decide who will be recalled first and who will be left to hold the monster(s) back

I wouldn't do that. It would make it too easy. Maybe a few merchants en-route (as well as accessible back at town).

As for the party limits, I think we should see how much interest there is in this idea before we decide.

That's possible, though it would probably increase your work- monitoring two groups.

Yes, but we can always tweak the amount of supplies, and those items can always be VERY expensive, forcing players to decide wether the parter with thme or not

You are right about that.

Maybe, but lets say that there is 4 players and NPC, and the stone is restricted to carry out 3 characters at time. Would you think that those 3 actually leave those 2 behind? And NPC can always persuade them to get those two back.
It could be made so that the only character who can use the stone is NPC. So even if PCs doesn't want to get those two back, NPC can always do it. :D

Merchants: You'd still be providing a party with easy gold and less of a need to return to town. I stick by my point on this :p

NPC: Yeah, that could work. The NPC could act as a guide. Under the control of the DM. Could react to PC's based on their alignments, ideals and their actions. Could even betray them.... :D

Maybe... But as DM, if I notice that players are exploiting this, I can always make it that way that they don't find those travellers anymore... :p

EDIT I'll be back soon, going to eat now.
