If the next game isn't a concluding sequel I'll be rather annoyed. After this storyline is finished they can go to an entirely different part of Starwars history and play, but for now they just need to finish the story they've started.
Good Points however i must say i would gladly wait just 2 -4 years to find out what happens in KOTOR IV , if KOTOR III is a sequel it would be so amazing to fight in that final battle on malcor V the 2 massive fleets outshining the stars....

The bad Thing about a prequill in the mandelorian wars would be very few suprises. We know the end result
Faust wrote:The next installment should definitely be a sequel. The second game definitely felt like a "middle" chapter in an epic. It seemed to set things up for a chapter that would resolve questions about the true Sith and Revan.

However, I wouldn't mind a future installment of KoTOR being a sort of prequel or, even, only being remotely related to the other installments of the game.
Another mention of the true Sith... While i also want to know about them it is unlikley that we meet true sith for 2 reasons,
1.True sith died out countless centries ago.
2. The true sith are so interesting because there a mystery also mabe george lucas wants the sith kept as a mystery

And I guess a fair few people would jump off a roof to get Revan in KotOR III.

So, yeah, I'm convinced. A sequel.
Im working my way through kotor II now again and same as you
any chance to talk to anyone about the great Dark Lord Revan i have a smoke and just relax
isblis wrote:I'm in the minority obviously, but I would enjoy a prequel next. Or maybe even a completely different game series is what I want. I am Sith fascinated and was left reeling about this distant galaxy where the Sith still reside waiting to return someday. A whole new galaxy of Sith Lords and Masters!!! The possibilities are endless. Galactic domination, forming a new Sith order through force and tyranny, embarking on a quest for ancient hidden Sith knowledge. So perhaps the posts I've read have persuaded me that a sequel to wrap up the Exile's story is necessary, but the thought of studying under a Sith master until becoming powerful enough to strike him/her down is more original. Endless battles between those empowered by the force rather than a force master romping a "normy" is far more intriuging to me. Besides the force is all about balance and with only half the story how can we have balance.
Ok this is a large issue because I would love the idea of a sith game where you study under a sith lord like you said but this can never and hopefully will never happen.

You have to be "grey" and pick your allignment during the game or else have to completely different story lines one sith one jedi.

When Westwood Studios/EA games made CnC Renegade and only had GDI campaign I was horrified i am a loyal NOD.
I dont think that everyone would like a game where you study under a sith master until you kill him but as i said i love the idia but you have to be fair.

Ok How does this sound...

You are a Force sensitive who has just traveled to Mannan or a planet like it where both sith and jedi are forced for whatever reason into a uneasy truce on this one planet.

you spend the first few hours of the game wandering around the planet until you are forced to join either the sith or jedi accademys?. while studying in each accademy you will find some limited info on the exile and revan....
x_ray619 wrote:Sequal deffinately, just to fill in all the holes that ppl are all wondering about, but since everyone wants to play in the Mandalorian War so bad they should put in flashbacks of the past and get to actually fight as Revan. Like have you talking to somebody and they'll get into a conversation about it and then it'll go to the flashback of the war and start showing a little video, then you jump in and control.
I Know that Marten0305 said that that was a great idia but id like to say that i like to see revan do things himself like when he is battleing Bastila before his flagship is fired upon or the scene where reven and maleck first enter the ruins on Dantoine.

Reven is so great and powerfull that it is more enjoyable to simply watch his/her actions and bask in his/her greatness
-----------

There Was allot of talk on having 3 chars Revan, Exile, New Char.

Would be ok but i dont like the idia of all 3 unless mabe you are the new charactor and your the exiles apprentece Dark or light and revan kills your master and th aim of the game would be to kill Revan (which is probbley impossible) so unless you played as revan again i cant see him being in the game.

Mabe you can be revens apprentice - now that would be interesting

I voted prequel. I would love to be there when the Mandalorian Wars happened or when Revan and Malak went to the Outer Rim. Think about it, we would play history! Ok, KotOR history! :D

I wouldn't mind a prequel, to be honest, but the problem is that the game will be entirely linear. While I don't mind the game going either way (linear or open-ended), it will not appeal to those who want an open-ended experience.

I say sequel. but prequel would be ok. To me there is lots of unanswered questions. Just wondering. Is there any hope for this game to come out? Do they ever take this long to put one out? Its seams to be that there is lots people who still want this game to come out. But will the demand help get this game to come out faster?

Not sure. There has been no announcement about a possible KOTOR 3 so the best we can do is hope. Eventually, there might be some news but the longer there is no announcement, it seems like the prospect of a KOTOR 3 seems to be slipping away, in my opinion.

If the game were a prequel it wouldn't have to be a linear one. Take a look at the Silent Hill series. The first game has 4 or 5 possible endings. One of them if considered the "default ending" and from that one starts the story in SH3. :)

I really hate games with multiple endings, to be honest. Anyway, back on track. About an open-ended prequel, I'm still have doubts it's possible to pull off, especially if the story of the prequel ties in with the current KOTOR series. Yeah, the game might be able to go open-ended in terms of how your choices have an impact on the game but the ending will still be the same no matter how you play it.

And about the multiple endings idea from the Silent Hill series you mentioned, I don't know if that is a good idea for a prequel. It would sound strange to see different endings especially for a prequel of the current KOTOR series.

I think DesR85 is right, you can play the game how you want, but thers no way to change the ending unless its nto related to the other kotors

We-ell, I still think it could be done. For instance, we would have the default ending, say Malak and Revan getting a space fleet, but at replaying the game, we would be able to get different endings. Anyway, if you consider the ending to be fixed then what would be the difference between playing on the dark side/light side?

Good question. It doesn't sound logical to me, in my opinion, to have dark/light side when the ending of the game is still the same, unless if the game wants you to interpret the events from two different perspectives. However, if the game revolves around the story and the prequel is linear, it would make much more sense.

In fact, take a look at Revenge of the Sith - the film, not the game. We all KNOW how its going to end, so half the fun is finding out how we get from a to b. There are obviously other problems - not being able to kill certain characters who one would expect to be included might be a pain, when in a sequel one can get over that by, well, not including them I guess...

That said, I don't think it will be a prequel.

sequel

i say u start out with whatever species u want all alone on some planet(some unheard of planet....)and u must find the now good(or bad..which ever path u pick)Revan and The Exile to help Crush the Republic...or Decimate the Sith..that would be awesome...it would mean the end of the trilogy..but they can make prequels...about all the great wars before KOTOR 1

Not t bash this thread and all but com'on, you really think it's going to be a prequel. Thereis so much information left unsaid in K2. It is highly unlikely that they make K3 a prequel.

The next one is to finish off the trilogy. Where is Revan and what is the "true" sith, what happens to the republic and the galaxy, What happens with the sith and the jedi (obviously they not done for good but you know what i mean), What happens to the rest of the characters, etc...

You see, these are many good facts that it will not be a prequel. I have no doubt in my mind that it is not prequel.

Perhaps it's just me, but I get slightly concerned about the number of people desperate for "answers" etc. I mean, on th eone hand, I know exactly what you mean - yes, I want to know where Revan went, what the "true sith" are etc.
But on the other hand, the games are open-ended RPG's! So what happens to the sith/jedi/Revan etc. should be open to various options and paths in the game itself. So, finish off the trilogy, yes, completely agree. "Finsih it off" in the sense of "why did Revan do this" etc. - well, that's going to be down to how you play the game. And if it isn't - i.e. the game dictates that Revan was DS/LS etc. - then it won't have half the appeal that the first two did.

In my opinion, I think that the developers could either start from the LS ending of KOTOR 2 or they could have an open-ended beginning where it would start off from either LS or DS endings of KOTOR 2. This is the only 2 methods that the developers would surely use if they were to develop a possible KOTOR 3 (assuming that this game takes place after the events of KOTOR 2).

But, there are both pros and cons about both these methods. The first method might make the task of creating a plot/story for KOTOR 3 much easier since it starts off from one point of the story (that is the LS ending of KOTOR 2 as an example). Westwood Studios did this with their sequel to C&C: Red Alert 2, Yuri's Revenge by expanding upon the events after the Allies victory over the Soviets. However, the problem is that the game will not have an open-ended beginning, which may disappoint other players as they have no chance to start from the events after the DS ending of KOTOR 2.

As for the second method, having an open-ended beginning where what happens in KOTOR 2 (be it LS or DS) will give the game a sense of being open-ended. This is good especially when you want to start off from either the DS or LS events of KOTOR 2. The bad thing is that the developer have to create two separate plots for each side. Also, it does make the task of creating the story much harder as there are many complications to deal with in order for both sides to have a good story.

i think a sequel would be better than a prequel because it would be cool to see what happened or hear about what happened to Revan and the Exile maybe have Revan as a playable character(but not main)maybe put Bastila on the Jedi Council, bring back the "Yoda" race, have Mandalore(Canderous) be in there, bring handmaiden back. Maybe make the setting 5-8 years after KOTOR II (Honestly dont care just cant wait till it comes out)

Sequel

Well you know what i think it's going to be and you know why i think it, but i'm going to elaborate on everything.

First is that in stories like this Star Wars works in trilogies.

Second is there is so much left unsaid that needs to be explained. They could come up with stories that doesn't effect the previous choices we made in K1 and K2. If anything the choices we made could effect why the story turn out that way.

And for those of you that want a prequel, thats probably what they're ging to do with the series once they finished off this story.
It's not who you are underneath, but what you do that defines you.

K3 will have to be a sequel so they can tie togeather the Exile and Revan. Too much has happened with those two that we don't know about. If they did a prequel that means they would have to bring in yet another character and a whole new storyline that wouldn't go along with the first to. With the sequel they can just tie Revan and the Exile togeather in one great game to end the trilogy.

A prequel would be excelent. If anything, I want to see the past, before the Mandalorian Wars and the Jedi Civil war. But, In between the two KotOR's might be nice, but then the series would get really confusing.
I'm not a phsyco, I just look like that when I'm happy.
