For the record, I like Imoen, Aerie and Nalia. Sure Edwin is a more powerful magic-user, and Viconia and Anomen are better clerics, but there's nothing better than getting to ToB and being able to unleash half a dozen Dragon's Breaths, a couple of Comets and summoning four or five planetars and divas.
Get the Gesen Bow, Sling of Everard and Tansheron's Bow, and between raining down death through spells, Imoen, Aerie and Nalia make excellent snipers while your other characters (Minsc, Sarevok, Keldorn, etc.) beat the hell out of the bad guys up close. I found Jahiera to be far more annoying than Imoen, Nalia and Aerie combined.

Nature could find a home here, if it was properly cleansed and balanced...

I hated that!
I mean, what's the point of saying that in the middel of the mind flayers lair?

Accepting that ****roaches are a part of nature too, it's probably true. I mean, those little buggers can live just about anywhere, as is proved by the "Clean your room" thread.
@McB- Don't get jealous, get toasted!

All of life's little aggravations can be solved (or at least put off until tomorrow) with one simple herbal remedy...
@Beldin-You'll have to tell me where to find those extremely stylish smilies you keep using.

I kind of like Aerie myself, she was my first romance my first time around playing the game, you just kind of feel sorry for her, and it is really kind of interesting talking to her, once of course you get past the initial whining stage. Besides Aerie is pretty damn powerful with her mage/cleric class, because paired with Viconia, it just seems to fit, I had like so many summoning spells it wasn't even funny, it was what allowed me to get past some of the tougher levels, plus the chaotic commands I usually never ran out of, usually never had to sleep to regain it.
I liked Imoen myself also good thief skills, and she eventually became my most powerful mage, second only to my own fighter/mage of course.
The only real drawback to both Imoen or Aerie is that you just can not use them for frontline fighters without getting totally wasted, Viconia is definitely a better fighter in this respect, I used her mainly as a protector for both Imoen and Aerie.
In any case I like both Imoen and Aerie, they fit the story, are likable in my opinion and Aerie's innocence in the sack is just so appealing, as is what she becomes later on not a victim but a truly powerful and strong woman.
In my opinion all other characters other then Aerie, Imoen, Jaheira, Minsc, Viconia, all suck royally.
SMACK the rest

Well the fact is, Immie can wear better armor than "Nagger" Aerie with the cost of loosing her mage ability (She can't cast spell when she wear armor better than leather armor IIRC) I once tried that and the result is quite OK when she do melee

i prefer jaheira's comment
'an open wound in mother earth. i would plug it if i had the power!'
while we wander through a natural cave complex.
