I remember it seeming to work against high level caster types also but I can't figure out whats going if it works against them but not against Jan in my test. Why would the engine be treating these things differently?

@ Glod: I just re-tested against a lvl 8 Imoen (at the start of the game) and carso dispelled stoneskin everytime. Against lvl 18 Imoen, the game text said stoneskin had been dispelled, the little swirly animation and dispel sound occured, but the stoneskin remained in place. She still had the stoneskin logo in her portrait, she was still stoney coloured and she didn't take any damage. SO what's going on?

Yeah thats consistent with my tests. The cutoff for actual dispelling was level 10. Higher than that and success rate is 0 in my tests (though I couldn't rule out a very small chance). Why it can work against monsters who appear to be higher level than that I have no idea. Poking through the creature browser, LICH01 is level 11 but has normal lich spells (including timestop etc), which is close but still 1 level too high for it to be consistent. The dragons and other liches are much higher and I certainly recall many times that Carsomyr seemed to work against those creatures.
I can't say I understand it. We'll need to set up more involved tests to see whats causing it to fail against mid-level npcs but work (or so it seems) against monsters of higher level. I haven't had time to do any more trials lately.

I tested today against (via CLUA) both a generic Yaga Shura Mage (level 16 according to Shadowkeeper) and Lavok (level 21 again according to Shadowkeeper).
Nothing. No dispel. The text "dispel effect" showed, there was an effect on the screen, but their stoneskins and fireshields remained there.
I CLUA`ed in Firkraag (level 23). I dispelled his Stoneskin in one hit.
Maybe (note: I know nothing about the Infinity Engine, I`m purely guessing) when an effect is scripted rather than used as a spell, it`s considered level 10 like a scroll, and thus dispelled easily by Carsomyr? Could it be the explanation?

The new Wes upgrade mod sets Carso's dispel to the same as the SotM.
