Here you go :)
(Well, originally I wanted to type the first few words, assuming everybody knows this quote by heart :) ) Anyway, I love this thought. You don't realize how really true it is until you actually start fighting monsters (=horrible people)!

Well I think that warriors have the best High level abilities because in a straight up fight againist a non boss then they pretty much own that person. The thief and bard UAI is good but I don't think that it is so great unless you are going solo because I don't need a thief cast spell when I have mages to do that and I don't need for them to use weapon that they normally can't use because for one fighter are better with the weapon and two they lose ability to backstab. However the swashbuckler does benefit alot from this ability since they can't even backstab to begin with some wearing none leather armor and using different weapon does affect them to much. There traps are also deadly but alot of time it hard to use the traps when you are dealing some bosses like sendi and draconis. The fighter high level abilities are the best to since I perfer to go toe with enemies. The most powerfully high level abilites depends on the way that you play game so it is different for everyone.

also, you can backstab with holy avenger, staff of magi, using assassinate high level ability...[/QUOTE]

I never got that to work. It always said "the backstab seems to have failed" when I tried to backstabb with Carsomyr.

The most overpowered HLA? Hard choice, as most of them are just ridiculous when used right. I'll have to go with UAI anyway. Being able to use ANYTHING in the game is just purely wicked when it comes to thief/fighters and bards.

Other favourites are of cource Imp. Alacrity and Grt. Whirlwind. ^^

it doesn't work without the assasinate high level ability. assassinate allows thieves to backstab with any weapon.

The most horrifyingly powerful high level ability is the high level spell "Wish"....

if you cast protection from magic energy on your party, save, and keep casting wish until you get "cast abu dahzim on everyone in map" you inflict hundreds of points of damage to every single creature on the entire map...and if they're in groups, the damage overlaps...

now in certain areas, for example, firky's dungeon AFTER rescuing the hostage first, you can with a bit of luck and a sorceror, KILL every single enemy in the entire map without any further effort...just go around collecting the nice tidy piles of loot..

(this is one of the best things about being a solo sorceror...) :p

That's what I meant. I was trying to backstab some random guy at the marching mountains, but it didn't succeed. :(

UAI. Without a doubt.

UAI is my favourite and I love playing fighter thieves.

But there are many really strong HLAs.

Planetar is priceless if you solo - mercenary fighter cleric with vorpal weapon at your command.
Alacrity is hell on earth, especially if cast by a Sorc - spell machine gun.
Greater Whirlwind used by Sarevok with Ravager +6 - as close to instakill as it gets.
Last but not least, Time Trap really rocks - serial Time Stop for thieves, backstab galore.

How sure of this are you? 'Cause I just tried to backstab with Carsomyr, using the HLA Assassinate, and it didn't work - as it never have and never will. I'm using a multiclass fighter/thief, but that shouldn't have something to do with it, should it?

And no mods, just game vanilla + ToB patch.

So I wonder what you base your statement on. :o

reports from other people who have tested it. holy avenger, staff of magi, and few other items before tob expansion, which added use any item and assassinate ability are not flagged as being usable by a thief. so you cannot backstab with them. the assassinate high level ability is suppose to override that, but since it has been a while since i've played with a character that can assassinate, i forgot if it works or not. (sorceror assassin...  :p )

So, you're saying that you'll need ToB (pretty obvious since the use of a HLA) but still be in SoA to be able to use it? I tried to backstab Aerie in the pocket plane and some fighters at the Marching Mountains, both in ToB. -_-
