Possibly true, I dunno, but I do find it quite amusing - That said, I think that it is healthy to be able to laugh at yourself, and being the most completely co-ordinated and adjusted person that I am, I need to learn how to do this

LOL..I wish I could say I was kidding, but I have this terrible habit of looking for out of the way places, mom and pop shops, and going to great extremes to get to the "local" experience. Here there is a very large Hispanic comunity, affectionately (I am sure) referred to as "Tortilla Flats".....Few of the people in this neighborhood speak English at all, and the shops and resturants cater to the vacume that more mainstream businesses have left behind.

To make a long story short, This is where I had my signshop years ago. The rent was very cheap, and the locals were very accepting of me into their neighborhood. Just around the corner was a little taquerilla that sold the most delicious food. I would get a burritto there for lunch almost every day, adn for $2.00 the platre was HUGE. A burritto, refried beans, seasoned rice, and a cup of soup with tortilla chips. The sauce was homemade, and the people very friendly. I hate there for several months when one day, I went to go for my usual, and the place was closed down. I asked a few of the locals where they ahd moved to...I was informed. "Oh they have not moved Sinora, The goberment has clost dem down...they where sellink gato..."

LMAO...needless to say, I turned three shades of green wondering just how much 'Gato" I had consumed

Stupid old ninny. If you don't like it, the answer's simple: change history. Get rid of the books that report it. Go down to your library, look up London homelife during WWII, and tear out the relevant pages. It's simple. You have visited libraries before, haven't you? I'm not going to do your work for you. Already gave you one article to follow up, and one writer to insult until they get so tired of your unoriginality that they back down, whimpering. You have to do the rest, yourself.

In fact, the amount of protesting you're doing over this leads me to wonder whether only members of your family were involved in cat consumption, and very few other Brits. After all, most people would understand that this falls under the banner of stoic resourcefulness, and doing what you can to survive in times of battle. Londoners in fact showed themselves pretty damn brave in maintaining their lives under Hitler's Blitzkreig: they even kept going thousands of classical concerts in wartime, even while the bombs were falling. That's grit. Same time, you're grandparents were probably picking fur out of their teeth.

EDIT: Editing this, because I received a PM from somebody who wondered why flaming was being allowed in SYM, and why Enchantress and I hated one another so much for such petty reasons. I think (well, I hope) it's obvious we're both kidding. I thought her line about discarding one article because it had been quoted in yellow was priceless. As for myself, I'm something of a closet Anglophile. That doesn't mean I keep Brits in a closet, but that I know a bit more than average about some aspects of the cultures in the UK. My constant quoting of the BBC and Brit lit should be a dead giveaway. Please, let's lighten up.

I can see why you would. Easy to lose one's appetite with that. Can't say I've run into that situation before, though (now that you mention it) we did have some pretty funny tasting meat, once, down in Merida, Venezuela, when we tramping through the hot, white-plastered city. No telling, at this point, and I'm not even going to think about it further.

LOL, ...Well, I am accustomed to being careful when traveling south of the border, but I am guilty of taking it for granted that that sort of thing just 'doesn't happen' here in the States. I learned my lesson the hard way. I still love to find great out of the way places with the Mom-n-Pop shop atmosphere, but now, in certain conditions, I thoroughly check around to ward against any more such surprises

I think that when I was in Belize a couple of years ago I probably ate Iguana... We are much the same, we'd rather search out the non-tourist out-of-the-way holes in the walls. The food is usually much better, and far more reasonably priced... but I think you need to be prepared for the fact that you might be eating something that is not necessarily what you are accustomed to

Once while in Japan I knowingly ate very thinly sliced raw horsemeat with generous dollops of garlic paste... What we do to be polite sometimes... Really.. I suppose it is no different to eating beef or chicken.. It's just that we view animals like horses or rabbits differently to pigs, cows and the like. Still... I have to say.. I felt a bit unhappy at eating horseflesh...

@Enchantress: Give me a break. Do yourself a favor - don't take potshots at the US by claiming we "don't have a history of our own." Come up with something a little more original next time, ok?

Yep, I do believe it is. The guys I worked with at the lumber company used to love to go to those little Tacquerias...little did they know that Barkley and Sylvester were gracing their burritos.

It could be worse though...I heard of a family in Southern Georgia that ate parakeets. Can you imagine how many of those it would take to make a meal?

I think fable himself has downplayed whatever it is between him and Enchantress (assuming such animosity does exist ).

I'll lighten up Fable if you stop talking rubbish and obviously enjoying the response you get.

And as for the Americans who have taken offense to what I said about Americans, my response was directed at Fable, not at you. I said that when Scayde asked about it and only then did I realise how it could otherwise be taken.

But Fable, stop saying ridiculous things about my country - I don't much like that, either. You do it all the time. Maybe you think you're being funny. Yes, I was playing around at first but now you're getting on my nerves.

My family were orthodox Jews and I wouldn't like to discuss their war experiences with you or debate whether they'd eat un-kosher meat, so please just shut up now.

You moderate this forum but you also cause a lot of trouble on it. Sometimes you go too far. Hopefully this subject is now closed. I don't particularly want to discuss it any further.

You know my relationship with Enchantress so I really can't say anything without being accused of just rushing to her defence. I think she is strong enough to take you on and win anyway. And Chanak, no one was complaining about his Brit-bashing.

At first I was messing around and having a laugh but I think you started saying ridiculous things that were intended to irritate the British. But now you have gone and said some quite shocking personal things about my family, although I don't think you knew I was from a Jewish background. I hope you didn't, anyway.

I know you'll want to have the last word on this but before you remove this thread or do whatever you will do, can you please at least apologise for what you said about my family. That was nasty and yes, I am being quite serious about this. I don't think you'd say something like that out of spite, just ignorance.

I apologise if this is making anyone feel uncomfortable but I don't think I've been unduly unfair in this exchange and I won't allow Fable to get away with what he just said without comment.
