ah i see u started the war without me

ok here is my story:
it's from; The epic adventures of TheDude and Edwin Founders of The Shadow Mages.
Episode 1: The War begins, - u know this is hopeless-

the story begins, as Edwin and TheDude have some idea's to become the most powerful group ever and they Found The Shadow Mages.
as always when u are too powerful, people want to beat u.
Ranger,Clerics,Paladins and Druids all try but they see they are too weak to overcome us.
They start a alliance but fast they see it doesn't work; here goes.

It's a sunny afternoon TheDude and Edwin are chillin in the sun of Athkatla when suddenly a group of paladins and clerics appear.

TheDude: "holy..."
Paladin: "u can't say that that is blasphemy "
Priest of Helm: "what ??? "
Paladin: " they insult our god!! moron !"
Priest of Helm: How do u call moron! MORON!
Priest of Lathander: "He guys don't fight each other please "
Priest of Talos: "oh shut up! we fight when we want to that's the will of Talos"
TheDude: "Uhh guys we don't have time for this!"
ALL: "Can't u see we are busy?"
TheDude: "ok have it your way, blast them Edwin "
Edwin: "with pleasure"
Edwin: cast Sunfire
All: AAAAAHHHHGGGRRg......
TheDude, Edwin: hehehehehe

here is a (short of) contest:
find some names for our beloved(and death) paladin and his cleric friends.
So maybe i can let them come back in the book as most (anoing foes) of TheDude and Edwin.

personaly i thought of some thing like:
Phill ( good priest of Lathander), Phill( Stupid priest of Helm), Jill( evil female priest of Talos)and John (the smart-ass Paladin)

In an effort to return to the mage/thief discussions this guild was founded for, I ask what spell do you find most useful for a thief/mage. Any preferences? Any special strategies you use? (Let us try ignore the temptation to spam )

Now thats really something.. People taking personal offence about this, and even go so far as to send eachother e-mails about this?

Oh well, make your funny stories, as they matter little to me, those stories dont mean anything about which class is greater, but the duels will, and i cant really see a thief beating a Paladin or a Cleric anyday.

One fact remains, mages has more in common with clerics than with thieves, in fact i cant see a single thing that they have in common with thieves.

Outcasts? nah, that can be said about any class, as it has to do with alignment. And while mages are loners, thieves are the opposite.

You're not helping sigurd.
This is not the way to make friends. We're trying to avoid spam now so try to stay on topic. So have any thief/mage tactics you'd like to share

Perhaps you're a wee bit overconfident?

ok kayless i right BACK TO THE TOPIC!

tactics i use with my Assassin are poison weapon, hide, backstab, WALK AWAY, hide, backstab, ect.
when the hiding doesn't work i use the potions of invis. or set some traps for my following foes.

my mages are just standing a side casting spells: fireball, skulltrap, summon pets, haste, deathspell. And some spells to counter the spells of my foes: pierce magic, breach, disspel magic, pierce shield ect.

The best way to make a Troll disapear is to ignore it. After all, we don't want the Moderators to have to come down here and break us up.

I think there are a lot of useful mage spells for a thief.
-Stoneskin: if you fight vs fighter type, they have to 1) identify you if you're hidden in shadows....2) hit you a lot of times before they can do some damage. If you have a speed weapon the job is done.
-Improved invisibility: increses the advantages of point number 1)....moreover you can cast spells.
-Improved haste: with a speed weapon is a sure winner
-Spell immunity:conjuration because priests and mages always cast a lot of spells from this school

If you're in trouble during a fight you can always use a potion of invisibility or run away and hide in shadows again.

Know this. I hunt Shadow Mages!

I owed no alegiance to the Shadow Guild. I have always been free. I made my intent clear, and that was to scourge Faerun of the plague of magic, the great Corrupting Power, and those who wield it. The Shadow Guild has merged with the cursed Counsil of Mages. Thus, old friends have now become enemies.

The Leage of Divinity will win. Not because they are stronger, but because they are right. Their power is granted. They gain their power through constant devotion to their ideology, rigorous training in body, mind, and soul.

Mages forsake their souls. They concentrate only on their mind. Mages need no ideology or morals. The power of mages is stolen, not granted. They find what power and knowledge they can, and they take it, never stopping to ask why or even if they should. Their arrogance and reliance on an unnatural and tainted power will be their downfall.

I respect the League for their god-granted power, though I promise no alegiance. We have a common enemy.

The Shadow Mages now fight on two fronts. One visible and glorious, the other unseen and deadly efficient.

Thieves, be warned. Leave now, before you are drawn in to the Corrupting Power like a bright-eyed initiate to a mimic's trap. Escape while you have your humanity.

But the main goal of this topic was asking questions about thief/mage/sorcerer/bard skilsl and tactics and get a answer to that.
