tremere for me - I seem to enjoy some of their messier discipline uses!

you almost wince when fat security guards explode - it just got real messy!

I like the thaum abilities, but celerity comes pretty high up there when it comes to choosing which clan to play - when you are at c5, you can take people for a real spin. even auspex has some fun attached - looking through walls and not getting jumped - like it!

a crack house, some zombies, a fire-axe and celerity - let's party!

I've finally gotten around to playing Tremere, and I'm beginning to see why they're so popular. For one thing, Blood Boil is a raging beast. It's hugely expensive and doesn't always catch a group, but when it does (especially in a corridor or other bottleneck) it is a beautiful thing to behold. Even basic Domination (trance) is enough to help set up a nice AoE gore-shower if all else fails. If only you could somehow recoup any of that wasted blood...

I find myself literally LOLing at the chunky mess - it reminds me of lethal critical hits in good old Baldur's Gate, but this time in glorious 3D.

But I wanted to update my favorite clan with something of a wish list item. I was looking through a Vampire rulebook and saw mention of the "city" (as opposed to "countryside") Gangrel antitribu disciplines: Protean, Obfuscate, and Celerity. I just about nerdgasmed right there. What an awesome combination of disciplines - my favorites from three different clans all in one war form-wearing Gangrel package.

At the downtown 'serial killer' murder scene near The Last Round, the witness mentions that the killer "just appeared" (in the same way that Knox describes Bertram Tung). I'm thinking that the caitiff serial killer in Brothers Salvage just might be one of those city Gangrel antitribu - where else would you see this protean/obfuscate combo? Although he certainly doesn't make use of any heightened speed in his showdown against your vampire.

[edit: Tin Can Bill doesn't seem to mention Brother Kanker's Obfuscate powers, I was overreaching on that one - deleted it.]

***spoilers***

There are actually ways to customise your character. I've had a character with as many as eight disciplines, all, naturally, based on my Tremere character. But I've had Tremere with Auspex, Domination, Thaumaturgy, Celerity, Obfuscate, Animalism, and on down the line.

The general problem with multiple disciplines is finding enough XP to jack them all up. However, since you have to cheat-code your way into all those disciplines to start with, it's not that much of a stretch to cheat-code your XP to jack them all up, either. You can walk into Santa Monica juiced to the nines and able to stomp anybody and everybody into small pathetic grease spots.

You may, however, find that such an awesomely powerful PC is not quite as satisfying as you might believe. I tweaked my PC so far that I freaked myself out. The only way you will know is to do it for yourself. Search on some of the older threads - there are lots of detailed instructions on how to crank yourself up, max up your mojo, get as many disciplines as you can handle, and in general go full on Boneroo Boogie.

When you're God, though, nothing presents much of a challenge. Sometimes you can have too many choices, and too much power. Whether or not that will cause you any problems is a question that only you can answer.

I like the Brujah. I like their independent, kick ass and take names life style.

When I played through the game a second time (due to a fatal-seeming error while doing a quest for VV during my first game as a Brujah, and putting the game into cold storage for 7 months) the profiler designated me as a Malkavian. So, my first complete play through I was a stealthy, undeniably crazy Malk. I felt, however, that I was not really ever “in control” of conversations and as a result, I was pretty much forced into the independent ending, which, much to my dismay, was not a good choice for me. I felt completely vulnerable against supernaturals – so, Hallowbrook, Ming, and our favorite meatshield proved to be almost too challenging for me. I also felt like I missed a lot of plot thickening elements – like having to kill my way into the Mansion instead of manipulating people. However, the costumes, and the dementia almost made up for it.

Playing the second time through, I must admit that playing it as a Tremere feels more like home. I’ve always been more enthralled by caster classes, and I feel completely in control of her (though, I suppose in this game to say that your toon is in control of anything is kind of laughable.) I also think I enjoy this clan a lot because of how… the pyramid works. Having solidified my ties to the clan, and residing in the chantry, I am sure it will give me a new ending option, which excites me to no end.

Along with how I feel about the clan, I also enjoy the chantry much more than I enjoyed the Downtown apartment (on my Brujah) or the Santa Monica apartment (which I was stuck in on my Malk for frothing at the mouth too much). I’m superficial, I know.

I think, though, for my next play through, I am going to try Gangrel.

Or, as Rowdy Roddy Piper said in "They Live" (paraphrased slightly to sanitize it), "I have come here to kick butt and chew bubble-gum. And I'm all out of bubble-gum." Then he opens fire on a bunch of people in a bank. (Don't get all freaked out - he only kills aliens.) Yeah, that pretty much spells out Brujah in bold caps.

possible spoilers if you haven't finished yet I guess

Another city Gangrel antitribu sighting! - So I just finished another game as a Gangrel. During the fight on the Tower roof against the huge Sheriff bat and his war-form Gangrel buddies, I had my "Gleam of Red Eyes" Protean ability active, and I swear I saw a few (otherwise) invisible war-form Gangrels. They only appeared as big red blotches with big claws. It looks like these Gangrels definitely had Obfuscate active.

So anyway I'd either choose Gangrel or the Sabbat city-Gangrel as a favorite, but I'm leaning right now toward vanilla Gangrel after having so much fun focusing on Animalism, which is just absolutely awesome. It works great for a Nosferatu too, love it love it.

Favorite Clan

Pretty Simple: 1: Clan Gangrel 2: Tremere

The whole idea of them being in touch with the Beast within and being the only clan with Protean is a natural discipline to them makes them even better, and their Animalism lv.4 (Spectral Wolf) is just awesome, with how a ghostly wolf appears behind the enemy and then jumps at them ant eats away at their throat.

Then there's the whole chance of them being a a higher risk of Frenzy due to them being in touch with their Beast.

Finally, the Tremere. Their main discipline at lv.5 (Blood Boil) is just how I'd love to be able to destroy my enemies. Causing their blood to instantly reach boiling level inside their bodies and them causing them to explode from the inside, spilling blood everywhere and leaving parts of the rib-cage and spin intact while their arms and legs are else where.

(I know, I'm sick and twisted, but it's soo cool)

Most definitly the Tremere.

I personally have always, in RPGs, played a very diplomatic, understanding, knowledgable character. The Tremere embody this to the fullest effect. They use the Camarilla as only a means of hiding themselves from the public; "It's nothing more, nothing less".

The idea of the pyramid is also extremely attractive. Haviong someone look after you is always very important. The Tremere always have a home and place to study, if they follow the rules. They do not generally approve of the anarchs, who (as I) see them as little cry-babies. I adore the lifestyle of the Tremere, and that their sole interest is to find out and resarch more about the clan and magic.

Finally, thaumaturgy is dope.

Tremere for sure

Haven't played PnP in a long time but I played Tremere. I also played a Ventrue and it was interesting. Fortitude really helps plus Presence in the PnP game is really powerful.
But what I like most about the Tremere is their close fraternity, and access to secrets no one else have.... The traumaturgic Paths are very useful.
I agree with you guys that the Gangrel have been weakened in Bloodlines. A Brujah character is far more powerful in combat. Claws are clumsy in the game....
Surprising to find out there is so many people that actually like playing as a Tremere as well. Usually they're disliked.

I don't know if I've posted in here before so I might as well do so right now:

My Favorites are Malkavians, Not just because they're fun, but because they are flexible, a Malkavian's Madness can take any form, from Overwhelming Homicidal Tendencies to Paranoia, etc., You can't tell the Bull**** from the Wisdom in the words a Malkavian Speaks, and they're also fun to play in the game XD

I will go with gangrel and malkavian. It's too bad that both VTM games are focused on camarilla clans since i will always be GANGREL & LASOMBRA. Malkavian character is great in the game, liked his/hers clothing.

Just finished the game with a Tremere with next to no stealth skills and still it was incredibly easy to avoid detection if you wanted to. Playing with a Malkavian or a Nosferatu has now gone out of the question, i think obfuscate would make things far far too easy.
I just started playing with a ventrue now and i'll see how I go, i'm liking dominate for the whole trance thing but not really sure how i'll go combat wise, i mean with the tremere i could at least bloodboil to wipe out a room of guys, with my Ventrue i'm not sure what my plan will be yet, probably just dominate them and turn them against each other :D

Well, after finishing the game a couple of times,i would have to say Tremere were my favorites.Although the male clothes look crappy, and the female was too nerdy-creepy for my taste,it can`t get any better than blood boil, blood purge, and the Tal'mahe'Ra Blade on a melee character.

...But,my all-time favorite clan from the WoD PnP,which also makes an apearence in the game, are the Giovanni. It`s like the Godfather or Sopranos with nasty necromantic rituals, secret blood rites, lavish wealth,a close knit family that takes care of each other and whose mysteries are difficult to penetrate. If you read the lore, they are more connected than the Ventrue...and richer. And with a dark, evil sadistic side that rivals that of the Tzimische, while staying completely independant from the affairs of the Camarilla or the Sabbat.

My favourites clans are the Tremere, Gangrel and Lasombra.

Tremere:
Well, they're blood sorcerers, what more reasons do I need to like them? :) Additionaly, they also have Dominate as a clan discipline, which makes them awesome.

Gangrel:
They're bit the outsiders but at the same time not antisocial. I like that ambuigity. Also they remind me of classical witches and druid-like vampires. Actually if Bloodlines would be a Requiem game, I would definately play a Gangrel (Bohagande) Circle of the Crone member. But well, that character only exists in my fantasy and not in game ;)

Lasombra:
I like them. I just can't explain why. Obtenebration is fun, but that's not all about them.

My favorite clans? I'd say Malk is one of them, another is Tremere, the third is a toss-up between gangrel and brujah.

My number one is Gangrel, simply for the awesome looks of the male ones. Second is Tremere, although that part in the sewers is incredibly hard to do because Blood Strike and Blood Salvo gets you no blood from the artifical creatures... Third comes Brujah and Malkavian. I like the disciplines of Nosferatu, but I always get lost in the sewers. ALWAYS.

When I played Nosferatu I never used the sewers :) The radar warns you early enough to avoid pedestrians and as soon as you have Obfuscate 3 you shouldn't have any problems walking around in the cities any longer. But I don't like their ugly looks (good point that WW got rid of the "must look unspeakably ugly" thing in Requiem).

I think I will try a Nossie again after pwning the Sheriff with my Tremere and becoming a new Camarilla and Tremere mastermind stand stands besides Max and rules Los Angeles. xD Tremere will maybe become my most favorite clan, Thaumaturgy is just pure awesomeness. Blood Boil can destroy any human enemy group, including all kinds of hunters.
