Lol, Totoro had me laughing aswell, but I cant say its a good movie. But as you say, if all you want is extreme cuteness then i guess it might fit.

@Erhardt: Is there two different versions of Samurai X or something? I have watched a few episodes wich actually were okey, but then I have watched others who have been really bad and they seem to take place alot later and is also drwan with different style and colour.

SPOILERS concerning Samurai X story

Unfortunately, living in Belgium, I can only relate on the series. The series I saw, was set after Kenshee gives up his life as Battoussai the slasher and having killed high officials. He comes across Yoshi and ends up living at Cori's dojo, along with Sanosuke, seeking peace of mind. Unfortunately, his past still haunts him and he has to fight off several ghosts from his past in different episodes. Last part I saw, involved a group of christians and Kenshee becoming (temporarily?) blind in a fight with the Chosen One (can't remember his name ). The coolest episodes revolved around a gang bent on taking over Japan. In one of these episodes, Sanosuke picks up on a punch technique in a matter of days, but which took one of the gang members years to learn. Sanosuke's disputes with Yoshi always cracked me up .

SAMURAI X anime more info :
First of all sorry to abandon this thread so long, that finally one of you revive it

Samurai X is an epic story with Bakumatsu timeline setting. The main char named : Kenshin Himura.
The complete anime regarding Kenshin Himura adventure consist of :

1. Samurai X OVA aka "Ishin Shishi Kenshin", which have 4 chapters as follows :
   1. A Man Who Kills, it's about Kenshin past and one of his mission which cause him a scar or his face. FYI The scar is made by Kyoto Shoshidai, who is fiance of Tomoe Yukishiro.
   2. The Stray Cat, tell about the first relation of Kenshin and Tomoe, also the beginning of treachery in revolution organisation.
   3. Early Evening in a Mountain Village, about the live of Kenshin and Tomoe in a peacefull village. Which finally disturbed by the traitor (Enishi Yukishiro).
   4. Cross Wound, the end of OVA which about the battle of live and death of Kenshin for Tomoe. And the conclusion of how the second scar obtained.
2. Samurai X aka "Rurouni Kenshin", the story continues itno Meiji Restoration Era. Here Kenshin will encounter Kamiya Kaoru, Sagara Sanosuke, Yahiko (or known as Yoshi), and finally Takani Megumi. These 4 new friends create a comical and story towards the series. Since the RK series got quite long episodes, I'll limit the info for now
3. RK "The Movie" aka "Ishin Shishi Kenshin Rekuiemu", you get a little continuance from RK series here.

there is a anime series named 'Akazukin Cha Cha'. in the dud version we dun find it funny how Cha Cha actually makes mistakes whenever she tries to cast a spell. i dun really noe how to give a example for it. but it's like i miss out a lot things when i watch the dud version. most of the u can oni catch the joke if u understand jap and watching the series in it's original version.

Okay, I've never intended to post in this thread, but I promised to KidD01 to report on Anime when I came back from Tokyo, which I haven't fulfilled yet. So here's a small note on the current Anime situation in Japan. I haven't watched much (I grew out of it more than 10 years ago).

Hikaru no Go (Hikaru's Go): It's kind of sport anime type, but involving not sports but Go game. Go is a traditional board game originated in China (of course), and is now played in all over the world (UK has one of the top ranked player, actually).

Prince of Tennis: Typical school sports anime. Lots of girls watch it, so you can get a picture.

Also, long running series like Crayon Shin-chan, Draemon, and Chibi-Maruko are still going strong.

There are a few revival of old favourites with digital enhancement (or something like that), such as Cyborg 009. I must say they are much better than most recent anime series, with better story lines and detailed pictures, even though the technology was primitive then.

There's one thing I found interesting is both Hikaru no Go and Prince of Tennis are originally Manga series in a weekly boys comic magazine called "Shonen Jump". It's probably the most popular comic magazine in Japan (many men read them on the way to work ). And other Manga series from this magazine to be Anime series: Cats' Eye, City Hunter, Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk, Hokuto-no Ken...(I must have missed a few more). Now, you can imagine where the next hit will come...

I have actually been watching quite a bit on anime recently. One of the best I have seen is Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Gorgeous animation, haunting score, and a complex and involving story. I have also enjoyed 3x3 eyes and Vampire Princess Miyu. Currently, I am watching Blue Seed and Oh My Goddess, which are lighter but still enjoyable. I went on something of a spending spree and bought Cowboy BeBop, Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie, and Jin-Roh but I haven't watched them yet.

I was curious if anyone had seen The SoulTaker or Metropolis yet? I have read good things about them but have not seen them. BTW, a good site for anime reviews is http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews/index.php

funny thing, i got some random japenese anime at a concert today. they were throwing out free stuff and i caught some DvD. i'm not sure what it is but it has some strange warning label on it. whatever.

@Gekopat: How is 'Vision Of Escaflowne'? And is the whole series available on DVD. It is frustrating to start a series, like Utena, and then only be able to get 13 episodes of a 39 part series. I have heard Escaflowne is very good, but I haven't seen it.

Ghost in the Shell was my first ever Anime, and it immediately changed the way I thought about things. To this day it remains my favourite movie, even though I didn't think it would be that good before watching it.

BTW, Dragon Ball Z is Korean, not Japanese, so unless you're watching it in Korean it's been dubbed.

Another example of dubbing taking away from an anime is in Ghost in the Shell. In the japanese language they use genderless pronouns, so instead of referring to the Puppet Master as "him" people call the Puppet Master "it" (as close as I can approximate in english). As the Puppet Master was a sentient computer program and hence had no gender, the japanese is far more appropriate than the english.

BTW, Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the best examples of anime I have ever seen. I would recommend that anyone who has never seen it hire the series, put their life on hold for a day (the series goes for about 12 hours) and see it for themselves. NGE just blew me away. I've got the whole series on tape.

Oh yes the whole series for 'The Vision Of Escaflowne' has been done and finished.

but jus a yr ago they make a different storyline movie 'Escaflowne. A Girl In Gaia'. Change the looks of the characters and storyline alot. which totally sickens me. so i didn't bother to watch that.

i did enjoy the series but i won't praise it too much cos we may hav different taste for anime. out of 5 stars i give 4.5 stars for it.
cos there is a extremely annoying character in it that spolits my mood when watching it.

but i believe u would like it.
so far there's nt alot of disappointing comments abt it.

But DBZ is Korean ? It's quite confusing since the manga is written by Akira Toriyama himself - anyone could verify that ?

Anyway who has watched Niea_7 ?? The anime kinda hillarious but got less appealing drawings

I didn't know that either, but I have only read a part of the original Dragon Ball series while they are still in the magazine, so you probably know better. I can't imagine Koreans makes sequel from Japanese Manga/Anime, though.

Dragonball n Dragonball Z are anime done by japanese.
the artist is mention above by KidD01.
but Dragon GT is by another artist, and Akira Toriyama was oni a consultant for Dragonball GT, a series he had nothing to do with.
i do not know who writes Dragonball GT. might be a korean artist who is writing it.
