Yeah, I was thinking the same thing - a mage or cleric senses the evil behind it (or the fact that it's living). What they would do about it is what interests me. It'd be pretty funny to have a huge argument over an axe and what to do with it, but we'll figure it out when we get there.
this could get interesting, would we know that a bard knows where the item came from?
If it is though, maybe it's part of a greater group of artifacts that unlocks something? I don't know. Maybe the axe contains the soul of an evil being that the hidden power wants to unlock (kinda like the genie in the bottle)? The DF's might unknowingly go to the power to free the trapped souls only to release an even greater evil. Of course, having this evil would 'tip the scales' too much towards evil in the druids' balance and they'd have something to say about that. Just a few ramblings. I think everyone involved in the story should have a say in where they want to go in the story though, this is just one branch. We could avoid the axe altogether in the main plot.
finally, something of a plot here! lol, hey aslong as it brings the party to new towns im all for it
lol! Sorry I wasn't more clear

I was figuring the creation of the weapon and the fact that the grandson had an undying love for Erudish's mother would actually be unrelated, and it would be one of those strange coincidences that Erudish ended up with the axe In fact, I was figuring that the dwarf who made the axe would be dead by the time Erudish's mother even entered the picture
I'm rambling though, too much walking around in the sun and heat
er yeah... I just remembered that about the way she was killed by a band of rogues, brief moment of confusion on my part
Ah...I see. Orc, rogue, same difference

. That'd be a pretty crazy coincidence though

. Are you suggesting that this long lost lover still exists and we could meet him

?
BTW, I know what you mean, Vancouver gets hotter every summer. It's impossible to do anything outside for longer then a few hours at a time.
@Demo...yeah, a bard would probably have to identify it...glad to see you like the idea too. If you have any ideas with it, tell us.

but what im saying is, would we as characters know that a bard would have to identify it? i mean, i know that monks get acane knowlege as a skill, but would we know what each other could do, based on class?

Certain classes (mage, cleric, paladin, maybe monk) would probably be able to sense the power/evil in the axe, but wouldn't know exactly what the weapon is and what it does. Because of that, they'd probably go try and find someone who has the lore to identify it, most likely a bard. I guess that they'd probably figure out that they'd need a bard.

lol! I think I was getting the various orc stories mixed up
Yes, it would be a weird coincidence, I've had so many odd things happen to me in the last number of years though, that at this point, I just accept life as one big strange coincidence.
Anyway, it was just an idea I threw out, I'm not fussed either way. I just thought it might potentially make for an interesting story
Hmmm.. I suppose it's possible the dwarven 'lover' still exists. If so, no reason why we couldn't meet him
Yeah... and I'm near Deep Cove too, so it is even more sheltered and wind still.

Thankfully our place is on a breezy corner though.
However, I'm not complaining, summer has been long enough in coming.
@Demo,
now there *is* more to life than just hitting things and such! No, really.

And the odd-couple are on the move again. I think I have an idea on where I'm going, and where to meet someone else. Either route I take, it should be some fun. Along the way, should allow some fleshing out of both Gypsy and Aegis (Gypsy is becoming quite exciting to write, for me).

There'll be plenty of things to hit, I'm sure
@DW...we'll see where things go, I mean the story hasn't even really gotten out of its birth stages yet...
Yeah really, although my school's a pain in the 'arse, keeping me inactive by issuing summer reading that includes 'The Awakening', 'Pride and Prejudice', and 'The Scarlet Letter'. I swear, if I have to read one more love story or story about marriage...

I miss good 'ol Forgotten Realms.
@Aegis...Which route are you leaning on at the moment? I want to see Aegis and Gypsy kick more orc butt.

I actually have an idea or somethine like that.
Maybe Erudish could run into Kieshe? She could take a look or something at the blade, and since she's a bard, she could have something of an idea of it's history. And when they get to Windhaven, Georgi could take a look at it and identify it more fully.

@WBG: evil half orc meets nice half elf and a kid.... i think it would be wise for you to meet with the rest of us before you meet him... wouldnt want to lose you to a half orc before we got to an adventure. lol, but its your call.
and i think we should have to go through the underdark

ill distract the drow while everyone loots their temples and all that good stuff lol

Oi! no! Too much drow! besides, the DF's have already tangled with the Drow, not to mention a slew of other things.

I second Aegis, definitely no more Underdark! Been there, done that, bought each and every Tshirt, declined to have the photos developed.
It's not a bad idea in and of itself, but I suspect it won't find very much support amongst those of us who have already been there

I can't speak for everyone, but, for myself, er... No.
Part of the reason for this present story, is because in the previous book we ended up getting stuck down there and for various reasons it was basically impossible to extricate ourselves from the place.
I know this is a consensual process, but I want to emphatically state here that I am unequivocally opposed to going anywhere near the Underdark.
In other words, "no, I personally have no interest"

Besides, the underdark and drow have been far too often. I'd like to stick to the fresh air, personally.

I am actually writing posts. I've got quite a bit down today and should have stuff up tonight.
Maybe it's the axe after all that's leading the orcs. If Erudish isn't conscious of it's life, than he wouldn't be aware that, given his past, he is the perfect vehicle for wielding the axe and leading the campaign.
I like the idea of the axe being a soul stealer. However, is the axe itself the phylactery of these souls or merely a medium. If the axe is only a medium, than the true souls are stored elsewhere once extracted from the body. If that's the case, then someone's has the phylacteries. Saddle up kids, we're going to the abyss. I'm currently immersed in book six of 'war of the spider queen' which deals with a lot of interplanar travel.
We could always tie in a little 'potter' theme with the axe. The keeper of the souls is some decrepit mage sustaining himself in a parasitic fashion waiting for the right soul to lure in an effort to once again take on a corporeal form a la Voldemort.
@Z, I wouldn't worry too much about making the axe the focus of the story. Presently, the story is seeking definition so if we get enough folks in favor we should run with it.

OMG!! I find myself empathising with Aegis!!!
It must be the distant equine blood in him that is appealing to the druid in me...that or the fact that Ysh has had it upto her little pointy ears with The Underdark!
