I also had an idea for a perpetual motion machine, but some no good uni stole it! :(

What's a perpetual motion machine?
Sounds impressive... :p

When you get all the energy out of a machine that you put into it its supposed to be impossible but I found a way to do it *SMUG* HOOOAH!!! Thats good old american brain powers at work!!!!!!!!

You thought of something that didn't lose energy through heat or friction?

Hmm...so much for the underwater wine maturing idea... :p ;)

I'm thinking of putting a link to the SF in my sig. :p

Yeah its basically an internal combustion engine (ICE) that runs off of hydrogen and oxygen seperated by electrolisis. And when hydrogen and oxygen combust what do you get??? Water! Therefore the cycle starts all over. The battery is charged by the crank and cams and obiously the lifters and valves could be modified to except gases instead of petrol and youd do away with the induction system. *SMUG*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't moving parts still cause a loss of energy- through heat and friction?
Which would stop it being perpetual. And what would you do with the water caused by the reaction? If you got rid of it somehow (rather than turning it back to oxygen and hydrogen) then a refill would be required.

Yeah but you still it will work forever without losing energy or requiring to put more in!

So first, you fill it with oxygen and hydrogen, which then reacts to create water. Even if that makes enough energy to run an engine, what happens to the water? You have a finite supply of hydrogen and oxygen which would require refilling.

No water can be seperated back into oxygen and hydrogen via a process called ELECTROLISIS! *slap* werent you listening! ;) So its just a cycle!

Ah, yes. I just haven't seen electrolysis in years. It's been a while :p

There is this though:
It is worth noting that the maximum theoretic efficiency of a fuel cell is the inverse of that of electrolysis. It is thus impossible to create a perpetual motion machine by combining the two processes. See water fuel cell for an example of such an attempt.
I'm always here to ruin people's dreams. *looks for an article why wine shouldn't be matured at the bottom of oceans* :D ;)

You might find this interesting... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_fuel_cell

Your idea has been done and patented already. :( :p
