Icewind Dale NPCs Released

Icewind Dale 1 remained the last of the five original Infinity Engine games not to feature a lively, interactive party of NPCs. The release of Icewind Dale NPCs changes all that.

Team your hero of the frozen north with an eclectic band, thrown together by circumstance to face down the forces menacing the Dale.

IWD NPCs features five fully-realized joinable characters with all the depth you would expect from PPG companions, complete with original portraits, voice acting, inter-party and PC-focused dialogue, and romantic possibilities. Most characters can be customized with multiple class combinations.

Wow, gratz Kulyok!

I had been thinking of reinstalling IWD sometime, so this gives me a good reason :D

As one of the playtesters, I can say this is one of the best mods out there (and not just for IWD). It adds a great deal to the storyline, pulling you in more than before. I highly recommend it.

Speaking of which, I need to download the final release. I'm still using the beta version (no soundsets). I'm anxious to hear the NPCs voices.

(Belated) Thank you for the compliments, and - version 2 is now available.

- Added subtitles to all five soundsets
- Added a hotkey fixer. Very rarely during a game a party member dies and "loses" his dialogue file. If your game crashed during a dialogue, reload, select each party member in turn and press K key
- Teri's interjection into Mebdinga's dialogue now works as it should
- Updated to WeiDU 210
- Minor corrections

Is there way to apply this to my created characters? It seems it only work with the given characters only.. I also want the dialogue to call the name created by mine, instead of given name in the patch..

Sorry for a rather late reply, but that's only possible if you call your custom character O#NELLA, for example, and edit her with Near Infinity, so her dialogue and script file are the same as the mod's Nella's. So, only available to those who know how to mod.

But there are alternate classes available in the mod right now. And one of the next versions of Level1NPCs may be able to modify all the characters' stats, kits and abilities, IF you're playing IWD-in-BG2 conversion from Gibberlings3.

That said, I'd like to add some news about the new version of Icewind Dale NPCs:

Version 4 of Icewind Dale NPCs adds sixty new lovetalks into the game, fifteen for each romanceable character. Two player-initiated lovetalks are available each chapter, two more - for the Heart of Winter expansion, and one more - for the Tales of the Luremaster expansion.
