Liches not showing up (?!)

Hey everyone,

I'm puzzled. Vongoethe (Marlowe's lich) in Amkethran simply didn't show up when I entered the cave. I tried several times. I didn't mind too much, yet.
Now I'm in Sendai's Lair, and that lich just showed up once. All fine. In a dialogue directly after that I chose a "wrong" answer, and therefore decided to do the fight again - without saving beforehand. (argh, argh, argh) And now stupidity pays off, and that lich doesn't appear either! I would really like to do that fight, though.

I'm playing an unpatched version (because one of the patches I used to use screwed up some minor things), but using the console.
I've tried searching for an appropriate cheat code to force him to appear, but couldn't find one.

I'd really appreciate your help!

Get the final official patch, then get the Gibberlings BG2 Fixpack. Install these. After that, you're more or less operating in the same playing field as the rest of us, so our recommendations would make sense.

What minor issues did a patch cause you, and which patch was it?

Oops. These were the two patches I had installed. Viconia's dialogue after killing Yaga Shura didn't start - I got the music, but not the dialogue. That was the main thing that didn't work.
But as that's over, I guess I can re-install the patches. Will do!

By the way, is there a thread for known bugs etc., where I can check before opening new threads?

You could try the baldurdash fixpack since you didnt have good luck with the G3 one. I've used the baldurdash one for years and still use it to this day, never had a problem and see no reason to switch.

Okay, I did try the baldurdash fix, and the lich showed up.*
But...
Now I'm fighting Abazigal, and as soon as he changes into his dragon form, the screen stays as if I'm watching a movie, i.e., I watch some characters auto-attacking him, but I have no control at all... I've tried it five times. :(

*Another problem I had with the G3 fix etc. was that descriptions of items didn't show up when clicked on in the inventory.

Sounds like your install is just all gunked up. You're not going to like this but what I would do is copy my saves folder to the desktop and then delete BGII and make a fresh install. Then I would apply the official patch and then the baldurdash patch.

Okay, I did that.
There is some progress, as the screen goes back to normal and I can attack Abazigal, but... There's always one, isn't there?
Turned to dragon-form, Abazigal doesn't attack, and neither can he be killed - simply stays at "near death".
Frustration is battling addiction here.

The 'immortality' of Abazigal is a bug which occurs due to:

Leaving the fight via Pocket Plane special ability(yes you can do that) and re-entering his lair when rested afterwards.
Killing Abazigal during Time Stop.
Killing Abazigal with the Flail of Ages or under Slow spell.

The bug is primarily this:

Abazigal's death dialogue must trigger when he's at 1 HP. But he has a slow regeneration rate due to high Constitution score(25 I think). Time Stop and Slow spell/effect do not negate his regeneration ability, while they both negate his death speech trigger. Once Azi's regenerated 1 additional hit point, he's immortal since the game no longer checks if he's at 1 HP(and thus doesn't trigger his death dialogue). So, in order to kill Abazigal, do not make the final blow during a Time Stop or if he is slowed.

Other disabling effects like Stun, Hold, Sleep, etc. will also trigger the bug, but fortunately Abazigal is immune to most, maybe even all of them.
