I'm asking this cause my first time around, cernd wasn't strong enough to defeat the druid leader in the grove and i didn't have any other druid so i had to skip this quest..which pissed me off..so this time, if i meet cernd later in the game..will he be a higher lvl so i can defeat the druid leader?

I'll reply before I go for the night. I don't think NPCs level up to far . Why do I believe this is because of Imoen is around the same level every time I get her back. Now it could be I'm at the same level everytime I've got her back. I'm sorry to say I've never looked at and kept up with it.

Yes my name is Weasel , but that doesn't mean I sleep with them.

1. Sorry, the creature.bif file shows that the NPC's do not adapt to your level. Imoen is always the same Imoen in the Asylum, Cernd is always the same Cernd at Trademeet and so on.
2. Thomas, Cernd IS able to defeat Faldorn even as a greenhorn in your party! Call Woodland Being, Shilelagh and Insect Plague do it with a little luck! He has about 50% chance to win. (Note: I found Shilelagh better than Flame Sword).

I had Cernd summon two big-a$$ bears. Then he changed form and let Faldorn chase him while the bears bit her. Cernd turned and got the final kill. Easy-peasy lemon-squeazy.

lemon-squeasy?!? Well, I don't know about that, but I did the same. Summoned 2 bears, then turned werewolf, and whacked the chick. I never liked faldorn much in BG1, anyway.

Jaheira is also perfect for the job. Summon a Shilelagh and whack Faldorn over the head!

I was level 9/20 fighter thief when I picked up cernd the first time. He was lev 12. Anyone ever pick him up with a lower level?

Level 12, are you sure? I met him rather late in the game and he was level 13 by then.

The NPC, all except Imoen that is, do level up to reflect your own level. Easy way to see this for yourself is to start a new game and add Jaheira and Minsc to your party. Take note of their level and proficiency slots. Then start a new game with a highlevel imported character. Both Minsc and Jaheria will have more experience this time around.

There's three separate files for each NPC as far as I've been able to tell with the infinity explorer so I would assume that there are three different starting amounts of xp for each NPC depending on the protaginsts level when he or she first adds them to the party.

You got right, they do. They adjust to the protagonist's level. I had Cernd at lvl 14 once, and the bitch was nothing but dust in moments Image

Might of been 14. I will have to check when I get home from work.

I seem to recall that most of the time when I picked Imoen up (the second time) that she was level 11, but as I recall there were a couple of times that she was level 13.
