Your most fun solo experience!

I apologize if there's been a topic like this before but it's a simple question.

What's your most fun solo experience and why? :D

I'll go first. My funnest solo was with an Elven Archer because I've always ignored ranged weapons in the past and when I started playing an Archer I was totally hooked. Easy to roleplay, micromanaging different types of arrows for different situations, approaching fights in a unique way, thinking of new tactics, great fun :)

I also had an incredible time with an Elf Archer. I never use any trap-eliminating mods, and I think part of the fun of soloing was getting around stuff I'd normally have a problem with.

I also had lots of fun with a Dwarf Barbarian (starting in BG1) and a Human Berserker 13/Mage (after dual classing the game was really hard... I almost gave up!).

I enjoyed my time playing a bard (to blade) all the way from BG1 as well as athief (to assassin), also from BG1.

I've recently finished Ascension on Insane with a solo Wizard Slayer. A lot of fun, and a good challenge.

Fighter/Mage/Thief ftw!

You just don't have any healing. Ring of regeneration can do it later on though.

when you are talking 'solo' here - does that mean no NPCs for quests or absolute true "Flip off out of here, Imoen!" soloing?

if you never pick up NPCs for the quests, you'll miss out a lot of fun.

I found soloing much less detrimental in ToB - a mage or thief with UAI doesn't have silly problems.

I think the name of this thread is pretty self-explanatory. If you're not familiar with the term "solo" even though you've around 900 posts on these boards then I'll be happy to explain it. Solo indeed means no NPCs whatsoever in your party which leaves you and you alone to deal with different challenges during the game while "near solo" means that you sometimes accept NPCs for either tactical or roleplaying reasons.

That would be true if I was playing the game for the first time ever. But when you make countless runs through the game with different party combinations and classes you get to know all the quests inside out and backwards and it just becomes a routine which is quite the opposite of fun. That's where soloing comes in, giving you a fresh perspective and something new and so far unexperienced.

Forgive my bluntness but this wasn't exactly the feedback that I was expecting from fellow veteran players out there, especially in my other thread similar to this one, it's actually very disappointing. I started writing a journal for my current solo game and was planning on posting it here but I don't think it's worth the trouble. If anyone knows a more active place or a community where such a thing would be greatly appreciated please let me know. I'm an enthusiastic player and I'd like to share my experiences and ideas with other such players.

Maybe the problem isn't the people on the board, but rather the thread itself. I saw the thread and was interested, but I'd never post in it. Why? I don't solo. I consider myself a veteran player, and I like the character interaction. I think you'll find a lot of that here- people playing BGII because of it's quality, not because they want a min-max uber-character.

By the way, you could have started the thread off with a little more panache yourself. I mean, you started off a "most fun ever" thread with something akin to "I was an archer. I shot arrows. It was great." That's less than a Proustian effort, imho.

@kaitech,
aren't you over reacting just a bit?

Anyway, I soloed once for a while with a bard, which was quite a lot of fun, but then I got bored because, for me personally, the best part of this game is the inter-party banter. And even if you have been through it countless times, there are some really good mods out there that add fresh material.
However, different tastes and all that, I can appreciate how soloing does provide some interesting tactical challenges.

If anything, I think that soloing is much easier than adventuring with a full party. Not only do you get all of the experience, but you are free to sell any equipment you can't use and worry about yourself alone.

There have been threads like this before and you're mostly deciding your course of action on what two or three users say. Use the search function, it's there for everybody's convenience. Including for those who already wrote their stories down in five other threads. A forum community is more than its front list of recent threads. Or, don't judge the book by its cover.

A sorc, no doubt. Eventhough it wasn't that much of a challenge it was bloody funny.

Although I doubt it can be called Soloing when you have four Mordies and a Planetar doing all the slaughtering for you. >p

perhaps a little 'netiquette' might get better results?

as a fellow 'veteran' who has completed the game many times, I didn't appreciate your condescending tone in reply to my post. if everybody's definition of 'solo' play was the same, I wouldn't have bothered asking. clearly you are a literalist and frankly, like many fundamentalists, you go through with only the end in sight.

BG is about the 'journey' not the destination - no wonder you question if other soloists are having any fun...

Bounty Hunter I think, a sorceror is also entertaining at low levels (once he gets staff of magi or powerful spells it kinda looses steam unless power playing).

I was in fact trying to keep things simple so that more people would reply, it somehow made sense at the time. Good point though.

Oh no, I've been lurking here for years so I don't question this forum's quality at all, far from it. I just thought the forum was slowly dying due to lack of activity but now I see that's not the case. But I'm curious, what "five other threads" are you talking about exactly? Perhaps I've missed something even though I love to abuse the search function.

Yeah I'm well aware how I sounded and I sincerely apologize for my condescending tone in my previous reply but I was actually going for that just to see if these boards are still alive. That's hardly an excuse but I guess I'm not exactly a lawful good guy :) Nothing like a little drama to liven up the place.

Definitely my sorcerer solo. Before then I had never really used magic all that much. Soloing as a sorcerer instead of a powerful warrior (like I've done before as a monk, undead hunter, etc) is all sort of exactly the same thing.

It was great having to use all sorts of different spells to adapt to the many enemies in the game. It was also a fun solo because I was playing an evil sorcerer who backstabbed just about everyone he could, I was probably far more destructive then Irenicus.

I'm a bit chaotic myself - too many rules stifle creativity and endeavour and my characters veer between the goody-goody and the not so nice. I let a man read a scroll, just to see what happened (even though it lost me rep)...

A thief with the higher level abiity UAI is probably my favourite solo protagonist - of course, sometimes (s)he's been a mage or fighter first.

Hmmm...
most interesting solo for me was the thief......
however the most fun character was the standard tank...didn't think I would like it at first....but really got into the hack and slash way I was making it through the game....
after reading a few other threads here, I'm planning on playing a bard next time, but depending on my mood it might not be a pure solo run.

I loved my sole elven (or was it half-elven?) ranger-cleric. Though it was a little too easy with the flail of the ages, elven armor stuff (ok ok it's been years ago since I played BG, can't remember everything about it).

The good thing about a ranger-cleric is, that you have all (!) divine spells at your disposal (ranger gives you all druid spells, iirc).

mmm, I might try that again :)

Sorcerer was fun, too.
